A double scorcher: June joins May with heat record

The average temperature over global surfaces for June 2014 was 1.3 degrees above the 20th-century average of 59.9 degrees. In May, the Earth's temperature was 1.33 degrees above the average of 58.6 degrees.

"The warmth was fueled by record warm ocean temperatures," said Jessica Blunden, a climate scientist with NOAA's National Climatic Data Center. Large parts of the Pacific Ocean and most of the Indian Ocean hit record-high temperatures or were much warmer than average for the month.

The developing El Niño — a warming of tropical Pacific Ocean water — was a main contributor to the heat in June, she said.

Revere got smacked by a tornado. South Central Essex county in the path of severe weather.

Peabody Danvers Salem It is not over, yet.

Give me a fucking break. They predicted Hurricaine Carol (1954) a day ahead of Her arrival. It is no wonder that President Obama forced an override, on the control to TV stations. I did not get a warning that we had severe weather coming until 5 minutes before it hit.

The big national TV stations would prefer to play their canned TV programs while Boston citizens are smashed to bits. Because profits. Because money.

There was no weather warning feed running across the screen. By the time they decided to run an alert, the destruction had already happened.

wtf ? Do we need tornado sirens, now ?

Unbelievable.
They are trying to minimize what just happened. Oh, that was just a downburst! (I do not think so.)
Transcript-

Jim, You've Been Moving Around Quite A Bit,
You And K Evin Have That Backpack Tell Us What You're Seeing In Terms Of Damage. We Were Between--
We're Actually On A Road Between Broadway And The American Legion Highway
As We Walk Down The Street, You Mentioned The Traffic Problems Out Here
There Are Significant Delays Near The Rotary Just Up Here On The Other Side
Near The Saugus Area. Where The Tree Was Blocking A Stretch Of Highway.
And The Traffic Is Barely Making Its Way Around.

If You Live In The Area, Avoid It. If You Can Avoid It. The Last Time We Checked In
We Went To Manny's Bakery And Windows Were Blown Out Around The Time
We Got The Confirmation It Was A Tornado.
And Anybody We Talked To Here In The Revere Area, It's Been The Same
The Same Reaction. They Certainly Heard What Was Akin To A Freight Train
The First Sound You Hear When You Think About A Tornado.

We're Going To Be Watching To See If Anything Is Affected.
And You Asked About The Crews And Haven't Seen Many
And Comcast Is Here To Make Sure To Get The Tv Service
And The Phones Back On.
And Still A Lot Of Downed Power Lines Though
And That's The One Thing That Police Who Have Been In The Area
And Fire Officials In The Area Have Been Doing-
Steering People Well Away From Any Downed Lines.
Take A Walk Over Here For A Moment.
I Assume You Have No Electricity Here?
No. I Imagine If You're A Fish Market, It's Know The A Good Thing?
No, We've Got To Pull The Lobsters Out Of The Tanks
And Put The Stuff And Get Refrigeration For All The Perishables
And Remove The Frozen Items. And It's The Lobsters, The Tanks,
And All The Tanks Are Down And We've Got No Electricity.
And The Wire Got Ripped Off The Building.
The Door Ripped Over When The Microburst Hit,
If It Was A Microburst. It's Confirmed It Was A Tornado.
It Was A Tornado.

The Whole Building Was Shaking And We Were All In There.
This Thing Is Old
We Were Worried For A Little While. Huddled Together
For A Couple Of Minutes Because We Didn't Know If The Roof
Was Going To Cave-in.
Yeah. Have You Ever Been Through Anything Like This Before?
Once, I Went Through One In Pennsylvania, Underneath The Overpass Bridge,
A Tunnel. And Gentlemen, You Have A Busy Day Ahead Of You.
You Try To Clear Out. And Waiting To Hear--
And Kevin, We're Pretty Much Back To Where We Started.
And We Talked About The Business Toll.
A Lot Of People Are Losing Valuables And Losing Perishables,
As We Go Over To The Highway Here. T
here It Is. Look At This Fence
This Fence Was Completely Blown Down
And The Trees Are Down, Decimated
And You Can Tell By A Lot Of The Patterns,
We've Covered A Lot Of Microbursts In Our Time
And I've Not Covered A Tornado In The Three Years In Boston.
I've Covered Tornados Before And You See A Different Change
In The Pattern Of The Damage. When You See The Microburst,
Everything Is More Or Less Flattened.
When You're Dealing With A Tornado, You Sort Of See A Debris Path
In A Circular Pattern.
Almost Like You Took The Tree And It's In Several Different Directions.
This Is Around The Area Where The Tree Went Down.
A Big Change From The Last Hour When We Hecann Checked In.
If You Could see In The Middle Of American Legion Highway,
They're Detouring Traffic Around The Church
And Back Up Through This Rotary.

And That's The Sound We've Heard. We've Heard The Chain Saws,
We Hear The Chippers, The Choppers Overhead,
We've Got Heard Many Sirens From First Responders,
Like We Had Been Hearing Throughout Much Of The Course Of The Morning,
And That's Tapered Up,
But People Are Still Trying To Make Their Way Through Here.
Emily, I Want To Send It Back To You.
We Find Different Instances Of Damage, But For The Time Being

OK New warnings- spin up tornado still possible (another new phrase, today!)
Poor ol' Springfield is on the map, for a possible hit by a twister until 5:00
by way of Palmer, MA

Jaffrey NH has a trouble spot- keep an ear and eye out, until 8:00

whdh news

Trouble around Tornado Alley East

E2 because houses were moved off of their foundations.

Why are we upset about a little E2 tornado ?

It is because they do not belong here!

If it is killing 300 year old trees, something is abnormal.

Look out anyone close to Sturbridge, Auburn, Spencer, Charleton RIGHT NOW (until 5:30 ) Severe thunderstorm, strong winds
60-70mph gusts

Shore Road eeeeeeeee

Big Fluffy Thick Ice Cream Clouds

I have not seen them in the sky, for years. (The figures sculpted into the clouds were fantastic!)

All that we get, now, is thin clouds in the layers-shredded, acid- rain eaten.
Even the layers are wrongly placed- too high, too low.

Today, these heroic masses of Ice Cream, are wearing bruise colors. Not a good reminder.
Bruise colors were seen after Hurricaine Bob and the No Name Storm

Thick threatening masses, as dark as twilight, at the Summer morning commute hours, is not a happy sight.

(take it back! we do not like, or want this New. The Old was comfortable and comforting, and this New, is not that.)

What is summer in New England without fried clams ?

A man who serves them up, just spoke up.

Many clam beds have been shut down and closed-
the big storms have caused runoff.
all that water had to go somewhere....

Prices have gone up, twice-

The shops are eating the price increase,
but, not for long.

In this link, is a clear pic of the tick that will make you into a vegetarian

Reddish brown tick, with a creamy white spot on it's back-

http://gothamist.com/2014/08/08/this_ticks_bite_can_turn_you_vegeta.php

" Lone Star tick can cause its victims to develop an allergy to red meat, reports NBC New York."

The blood sucking bastards contain an alpha-gal sugar not present in humans that can typically be digested naturally when eaten in meats like beef, rabbit and pork. When the tick bites, however, the human body develops antibodies to the sugar, meaning the next time you reach for a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, your body goes into overdrive trying to fight the sugar. Victims describe swollen appendages, itching, hives and the feeling of being "on fire."

Allergists were initially flummoxed by the reactions, eventually discerning that the sugar was the culprit, in lieu of proteins, which are usually the cause of allergic reactions. One specialist in eastern Long Island has seen almost 200 cases in the past three years and another doctor in Virginia says he sees "two to three new cases every week." There's no indication either way that the allergy is permanent, though some patients "show signs of declining antibodies" over time.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/02/140220102727.htm

Lone star tick bites are likely the cause of thousands of cases of severe red meat allergies that are plaguing patients in Southeastern states including Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia and spreading up the Eastern Seaboard along with the deer population (gsgs comment- coyotes ?)

Alpha-gal patients can safely eat poultry such as chicken or turkey but red meats such as beef and pork, and even game like venison, will cause a reaction. Valet said some patients react to milk, even in relatively small amounts.

In need of an Epi pen

Persons with the allergy can go into a delayed anaphylactic shock four-six hours after eating red meat

What is a summer vacation, without a visit to the fair ? A missed romantic opportunity, on the Ferris wheel!

On second thought, will Tornado Alley East 2014, interfere with the tents and the tall, high, things ?

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Big E, America’s only six-state fair, is pleased to announce the 2014 fair will be held September 12-28, on the grounds of Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

*Thank you, for the reminder! Tip of the hat, to the lady with the Southern accent. ;)

Nothing, since that storm blew through. Just a simple, delicate shower ? Showers do not boom and flash like that!

I am still not in a mood to accept that the rainy days that I knew in the past, are gone forever. I loved the rainy days, where it would rain steadily, all day. A chance to read and to cuddle. Browse. Nibble snacks, and nap.

When they made an announcement, that there would be thunderstorms- I predicted that some town, would be the unfortunate victim of hail and a tornado. Somewhere along Tornado Alley East.

Soon, enough, the weather warnings turned to "severe thunderstorms." But, they did not bother to say that a tornado was possible. Even, though, there was a single lavender spot in a sea of red, on the weather map.

Who was the recipient, on the dart board, this time ?

Monday, September 1, 2014 An EF0 tornado is the least severe, as measured
on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with winds at 65 to 85 mph.

Caught on camera: EF-0 Tornado touches down in Worcester

Vernon Hill neighborhood around 8:10 P.M., and traveled about 1.7 miles before dissipating about four minutes later.

The tornado touched down near the intersection of Perry Avenue and Fairfax Road. It traveled near St. Vincent’s Hospital, but narrowly missed it. The tornado lifted near Gordon Street.

Four minutes after the tornado passed, the National Weather System alert went off, to warn about the tornado. *sigh*

Maybe, they are noticing that we need alarms, like they have in the Mid- West.

Here we go, again. Morning weather reports say nothing to worry about. Just some rain showers.

Now, we get severe thunderstorm warnings. The usual place- Tornado Alley East.

Starting from now, and until 4:00 this afternoon, and starting from Worcester.

Drifting North, as far as Saugus. Why are they so timid about tornado warnings ?

Maybe it will blow all the U-Haul trucks away.

It has been forever and a day, since I have heard anyone, call someone Barney.

Where did Barnabas Collins attend university ?

TORNADO WARNING: For Franklin, Middlesex, Worcester, Hillsborough And Essex Counties Until 5:15 p.m.

Why did they not say something, this morning ? Four o'clock, and they just said severe storm.

Whoever heard of tornado season, during Fall Foliage Season ?
Would you please take this weather back, to where it belongs ?
I have lived with hurricaines, all of my life. That is normal.
Tornado, once in a lifetime.
That's New England!

Fun and games, again-
The weather feed across the screen starts, after the danger had passed.

How many towns will be flattened, before MA officials take this problem seriously ?
Are they in denial ?

Tornado Alley East becomes obnoxious-
Tornado on the coastline ?

Saturday Tornado watch-
The usual cloudy afternoon changes into night, in minutes.

Boston was lit up like a Christmas tree-
July 4th nightmare, returns.
25 years ago, Boston was hit by extreme and plentiful lightning.

The National Weather Service determined that a microburst-- with straight line winds between 80 and 90 MPH -- tore through Ipswitch, Massachusetts.

Two little old great-grandmothers were swimming, and they were struck by lightning off the coast of Ipswitch and remained in critical condition Sunday.

Police said they didn’t know how the women exited the water. No lifeguards were on the beach watching the crowd on one of the hottest days of the summer, with high humidity and temperatures near 90. The lifeguards were on duty, closing down the beach after Labor Day. A sign at the entrance of the town boardwalk said, "No lifeguard on duty."

Hubbard said the storm struck quickly, with little warning.

One bather estimated the crowd had at the most five minutes to clear the beach before the first rumble of thunder and the first rain began pelting the beach driven by high winds, punctuated with frequent lightening at about 3:45 p.m.

Possible tornado touchdown in Hollis, NH

A man watches a twister form-

Hollis sustained major storm damage in the southern end of the town, police said. The area heavily damaged is at the intersection of Jewitt Lane and Dow Road, where a tree was splintered into pieces.

HOLLIS, N.H. —The National Weather Service confirmed that a survey team is on the ground in Hollis investigating a possible tornado.

A lovely summer, with no electrical power interruptions.
After putting up with years of power outages, every week.

Quincy, MA gets an upgrade, today. NSTAR makes an
announcement, today.

“NSTAR is working to make the electric grid more resilient to storm damage, improve our storm readiness and enhance the lines of communication with our customers,” said Craig Hallstrom, President of NSTAR Electric & WMECo. “As part of our year-round focus on emergency preparedness, we’re also working closely with state and local agencies to strengthen our partnerships during any emergency situation.”

Cutting off my electric power, is helping to improve something ?

Not so awesome, when the weather system kills someone.
Little old great-grandmother who was struck by lightning, died. :(

Memorial services have been set for a Concord woman who died after being struck by lightning at an Ipswich beach earlier this month.

Marianne Mellnick died Saturday at Mass. General Hospital. She was 69.

Her friend, Marguerite Tomany, 61, of North Grosvenor Dale, Conn., was also killed after they were struck while walking near Crane Beach on Sept. 6, 2014
