Blond idiot - err..Paris update

CharleyH said:
LOL - you are speaking to a world where the tv show Surviour (reality TV created in that great democratic land of yours) was and is still the greatest thing since Pepsi.

I had thought to say earlier (before I changed my frame of mind) that it's hard to believe that Paris is the top news ... not only on the internet, but on reputable TV stations. However, humans have a long love and get much excitement from the misery of others and editors know it.

We are pathetic creatures, aren't we.

It isn't so much the misery as it is the antics of the rich and famous. There are hundreds of other women in that same jail, many of them doing longer sentences, and most of them not as well off as Paris is. They don't say anything about them, because they are not rich and famous, and hardly anybody is really interested. If it is shown that there has been a miscarriage of justice, that will interest people.

I have heard some commentators say that Paris is being mistreated, and nobody gets such a long sentence. BULLSHIT

I must admit that I am going to cite the situation a long time ago, and in a different county of CA. It has been at least 35 years ago since I have been in jail, but I do remember that there were more people there for just being drunk in public than for anything else. The standard sentence was 30 days, but some got as much as six months. Of course, this was only after many arrests in a relatively short period of time.

She was granted probation for a DUI conviction. She violated that probation at least twice in a few months, as well as generally showing disdain for the judge and the courts. She is now doing 45 days for those violations, which is not excessive.

I have also heard it said that nobody gets time in jail for driving on a suspended license. I repeat: BULLSHIT One of the times that I was in jail, I worked in the jail office, updating record cards of prisoners. I would roll the record card into the typewriter and add the latest sentence to it. I remember quite well seeing many thirty day sentences for driving on a suspended licenses. The idea is that doing such a thing is demonstrating contempt for the law and the courts, and such a thing should not be taken lightly.

The point is, Box, stories of this nature belong in supermarket checkout aisles for women. Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole are not headline 'news', but pandering to the bread and circus masses with IQ's a 80 and less.

amicus

I am inclined to agree with you, but I wanted to point out that the news items were not in order of importance, which may have seemed to be the case.

I would also like to point out that there are at least two threads on this forum, and, I believe, everybody has an IQ of well over 80.

# Screaming Paris Hilton sent back to jail (AP)
# G-8 leaders pledge $60B to fight AIDS (AP)
# Pace retires as head of Joint Chiefs (AP)
# Stocks extend rebound after selloff (AP)
# Jefferson pleads not guilty to bribery (AP)
How hypocritical of you Ami. This is the both free market and democracy in action. The people have spoken. They want to watch Paris and her troubles, not stories on stocks, G-8 leaders or the Joint Chiefs.

Or hasn't it occured to you that if people follow herd mentality in this, that they'll likely follow it in everything...from buying goods to voting for leaders? (This, by the way, is always the flaw in Ana Rand--the assumption that people will be intelligent, civilized and creative individuals if given free rein. As you can see, evidently not.) So if you're against herd mentality, then you'd better change your tune and argue for fascism and government control rather than democracy and free markets, because, obviously, the majority of people can't be trusted to know what's good for them--or others.

the bitch is back!!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Thank you gods! Paris is back in jail where she belongs. I'm so glad that the judge didn't let her get away with that house arrest bullshit!

methinks the man is blind. he thinks anna nicole got popular because women shoppers buy pictures of her.

Believe me - I've seen men buy them with their 5 pounds of pork chops in check out lines, also! lol ;)

Edit to add: In fact, I think I saw Box the other day!

How pathetic, 3113, and it sounds like you may really think that.

A simple exercise in reason and logic might dispell your disillusionment with mankind: Most men are fundamentally good and work to achieve values of self interest and mutual cooperation, thus identifying a basic, 'normative' code of ethics and morality.

Were it not so; were is as you believe, the species would have failed long ago and devolved back into an animal world.

Ain't reason and logic neat? Or was that over your pointy little head?

amicus....no quarter asked, none given...

Here's some reason and logic.

Can anyone spot the circular argument in the above?

T minus 44 and counting.

Won't spot a 'circular' argument because there is none, rather linear unless your perceptions are warped...(and that seems likely)

I just read that she is going back to jail and apparently yelled, "That's not fair!" before being dragged out. They had a picture of her in the back of a car and she looked terrible. Hair all straggly and face red from crying.

I can't imagine a jail is a pleasent place to be, but 45 days really isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. 100 sq. ft. is much bigger than my cubicle where I toil away 40+ hours a week. Anyway, maybe she will get out of this with a bit of perspective, although I'm guessing not. She had never seemed the sort to see wisdom.

Hey, only_more_so, have you ever considered hating the rich? I hear it can salve the conscience of an ignorant hourly wage slave who wishes she could even afford to 'look' at a paris hilton gown.

Hey there, Charlie, circular sophistry would be truly 'discusting' now wouldn't it?

However, watching a rocket head skyward, on can safely assume that whatever propellant was used, it worked! That is a, ahem, logical deduction, ah, somewhat.

It is if you're a narcissistic bitch. Judging by the way she seemed to have been emotionally ricocheting off the walls of her cell in just a couple days, 45 days is going to be torture. Paris Hilton without an audience will simply evaporate leaving little but a trace aroma of her signature fragance and an unpleasant whining noise.

I'm married to a judge. One of the things that you'd think people would understand (and don't) is that Rule #1 is "Don't Piss Off the Judge." Rule #2 is "The Judge Bats Last." I have no sympathy for people who intentionally drive knowing they're drunk, get popped, get a suspended sentence (which is a real gift from the judge), and then get popped twice afterwards for driving with a suspended license. When you've got enough money to buy taxis, limos, or a chauffered Rolls, it's intentionally sticking your finger up the judge's nose, something that violates Rule #1 and brings you right up against Rule #2.

Paris is not in jail because she drove drunk--she could have avoided that by exhibiting greater than a room temperature IQ--but because she went out of her way to show contempt for the court because she thought the rules didn't apply to her. Rule #2 is in play right now and she's got a golden opportunity to learn that she was wrong. If Paris has trouble with being in jail, if her personality is going to splinter like a glacier calving icebergs, well, I guess the dumb bitch should have remembered that you don't do the crime if you can't do the time. She might even reflect on the thankfully unrealized possibilities for jail time if she'd hit somebody while driving drunk. If she's pitching hysterics over a 45-day sentence, think what 2-5 years for vehicular manslaughter might do for her. She has a cheap opportunity to grow wiser, something I agree with only_more_so as probably being beyond her.

There are people in jail for whom I feel sympathy, even people who actually are guilty of the things they're in jail for. Paris Hilton isn't one of them. She is the archetypal stupid, self-absorbed twat and I'm really glad to see that she's back in the pokey.

Seems to me it was 'judges' in Germany, in the 1930's that 'legally' decided that Jews had no rights within Germanic Law.

Fuck your judge and his temperament. Fuck your all knowing and omnipotent power to control people.

I shoulda been on a podium in the 30's in Germany, would have waxed some ass and saved 100,000 million lives.

You are a complete nitwit.

There were nowhere near one hundred billion people in the world in the 1930's.

Judges, either in Germany or anywhere else are not supposed to make laws, or decide on those they like or don't like. They interpret them and decide whether or not they are within the nation's constitution, or other basic law and, if they are, they have to so rule. The fact that something is legal doesn't mean it's right.

If you had been speaking out against the government in the 1930's, you probably would have been murdered by some Nazi thug or arrested and put to death legally.

Out of curiosity, how could you have done anything to prevent war in the PTO? Japan was invading China before the Nazis ever came to power.

I seriously doubt that this phrase was ever spoken to her, or that if it ever had been, she'd assume that it would never, ever apply to her. When you're young and have 50 million dollars--as well as looks, popularity, fame, etc., there's no reason to believe that you're ever going to have to pay for your mistakes.

Especially when you surround yourself with people who appease your every whim and tell you, as surely her high priced lawyers, etc. did, that "It's no big deal, we'll get you off with a slap on the wrist..." etc.

Which is likely why she's falling apart now--because she's realizing that there's no making this nightmare magically go away, that no one in her employ can make it go away, and she really is going to have to face it all on her own.

I thought a thread had to get to at least 75 posts before someone could call/compare someone else to a Nazi.

BTW, lest we forget, the judicial system is not the final arbiter of Justice. The executive branch has the power to pardon criminals. Although I don't see Arnold pardoning Paris, and I really don't see G.W. lifting a finger for her.
