Book nuts:

I have just counted 15 bookmarks tucked in the corner of one of my book shelves, yet every time I pull a book out to read I wind up using a random bit of paper.

Even though most books are in digital format , there is something so nastalgic about reading paperback books. Some of the thing I've used as bookmark are recipits, or just dogged ear the page.

I rarely put a book down before I've finished it because I am (or used to be before I had double vision) a speed reader.

An average length novel used to take me twenty-five minutes.

It has annoyed my wife for years. She would take a week to read the same novel and I would remember more than she could.

Tons. I used to use antique postcards a lot then leave them in the book when finished. Someone bought me a gorgeous silk one that I use a lot but my favourite is a William Morris one. Leather ones remind me of childhood and I HATE metal ones.

People who turn down the page should be burnt alive.

Depends on how big the book is. Less than 200 pages? That's a day read; just fold over the top corner to mark the spot. More pages than that, I'll actually stick something in the book. Whatever is handy, usually paper.

Any old piece of paper. Mostly because I start several before finishing any and read them at the same time. Two years ago, I got an account at the local library and have some of the introductory pamphlets(like their "you should donate!" and the "sign up for our online catalogue!" flyers) tucked inside a couple books.

I have one made out of metal which I really like. It has the quote "you open the books and the books open you" (roughly translated).

I have a second one I use for thick books, a metal rod with a traditional Chinese mask at the end which I recieved as a gift once.

The better the book is the more my reading slows down because I don't want it to end.

Pieces of paper, generally, including the book sales slip. For permanent aid in finding a particular page, I'm a great fan of Lee Valley Book Darts.

I used to be one of those people who turned the corner of a page down to save my place in a paperback or if it were a hardback book I would use the dust cover.

Nowadays I read via kindle, but the odd writer will always have me purchasing a good old fashioned book.

Usually remember the page, nerdgasms.

Every single bookmark I own was gifted, perhaps three in total and probably somewhere still in the wrapping.Quirky, but sentimental value.

The leather one I mostly ate I cant remember where it came from now... but the fact the libraries I was borrowing from basically spat out reciepts mayde it redundant

Best bookmark I had was the one that I embroidered; lent my sister-in-law a book with the bookmark because I hate it when people turn down pages. Unfortunately booked was returned without bookmark, turned down pages and cup marks. Always just gave her my books after that because I didn’t want to see the state of them afterwards. I can recommend using ribbons for bookmarks.
