Apparently some people felt this should have been a question posed to ALL members of the PG and not exclusive to the "Sisterhood" thread.

So here it is.

Question #6 from our thread.

If something happened with your current spouse, would you ever consider that you’d reached a stage where you were beyond remarriage? Would you actively seek out companionship with the idea of committing to a long-term monogamous relationship again or maintain a casual dating affair?

I would certainly be in no hurry to commit to anything long-term. Depending on the circumstances involved in "loosing her" I would want to see what's out there before even thinking about commiting, just as I did with my marriage (I was 38 when I married).

I can't fully answer this, on account of I've never been married. But I've dumped and been dumped, and went right back into the dating saddle. That might change after a long committed relationship.

I was NOT one of those three, Ms. Riles, but I have read your question and I offer the following 'male' perspective... albeit only my own! ;)

I think that there is a point in time when I would not want anything other than a casual dating relationship. Life is complicated. Loss is complicated, and quite frankly, the idea of entering into a marriage after the loss of a s/o is not something I think I would be inclined to pursue. It would only complicate things further.

In fact, I think I might already be beyond the stage of 're-marry', although I do not think I would become a monk either! Casual dating and friendships would be all I would want or, perhaps, need.

Well, since you put it that way....;)

If I had something happen to a spouse after many years of marriage I think I would date (I mean, look around here ;) and if something serious happens then I'd be all for it.

I was in a long term relationship a while ago and even though she's officially just listed as "missing" I think it would depend on who enters my life and the effect they have on it. I don't think I could say I wouldn't marry again.

I know you were not, cutie. I think you were suffering with your headache when I posted originally....your stalker status has been revoked. -wink-

I like your answer though....it makes sense.

Revoked??? WHAT???

And Stalker is politically incorrect.... I prefer the term "researcher" !!!!!!

But, since I've had my card revoked, well, I suppose I should storm off and pretend I did no 'research' today!!!! ;)

Timing really does play a huge factor....we all have our own acceptable grieving times for relationships lost.

dating saddle.....rough rides?

Don't be dramatic. You have plenty of points in the bank...

Lots of depends and suppostions in that. But to flat out answer the question as its been asked.

I would not consider that I was beyond remarrying.
I would not want to remarry.
Not because of some sense in honoring the previous spouse, but more to the point that, no I don't want it.

Now some circumstances being that my marriage was good and happy and she died, then i would remarry.

Dissappeared without a trace? I would not consider remarrying until I knew what had happened, were it found someone new, no I would not remarry, were it disappeared and killed? I would remarry

Well I am not married. But if I was married and something happened to them well it'd depend on what happened. If they died well I'd probably be depressed for years. If we got divorced I'd move on. I'd probably go with the casual dating thing.

Well I'm not married or in a relationship so I can really answer this, nor do I plan on getting married. But if something did happen with my spouse I would talk it out with her but yeah the marriage would pretty much be over, as far as keeping in contact nah just more drama I would not need from her.

Guess it would depend, having been married I took some time out from dating for a while, mostly to get stock of things, however that particular break up was more traumatic than most I have had so my guess it it would entirely depend on who I met. I certainly wouldn't be zipping around desperately trying to find a new spouse though.

That seems to be the general consensus. But one noteworthy piece....the women are all MUCH more 'fearful' of the dating process then the men....

was it always like this? I can't remember.

I'm honestly not sure if it was always so, in many ways the idea of dating - especially for a woman - after a divorce or spouses demise is a relatively new thing in any ways. The change from courting to dating that has happened over the past century may add some stigma to things, especially for those who have lost their partners through a tragic incident, there is still very often a societal frown applied to those who go looking for a new partner when their past one isn't over-long dead (and this can be a fairly long time in sane terms).

Also there is this somewhat oppressive general attitude about women as they grow older, frankly mostly from women and a few porn-brained male idiots I'll grant you, that all beauty of a women is lost as they start to age. Total idiocy but that general thought can't make it easy for someone in say their fourties or fifties starting back dating again I'd suspect.

hmmmmmmmmmm

honestly, truthfully,

If I lost her

I cant imagine life having any lustre
any flavor, any value . . .

that doesnt mean Id be suidical but simply that I cant imagine life being "living" without her.

Bah Ryan you'd still be chasing my arse :p

Seriously though losing someone that special, well 12 years after and life's still not got the same depth to it.
