Kicking her tyre angrily, disgusted at the piece of scrap she was forced to drive around in, Orla looked around and tried to decide what to do. She'd broken down in the middle of nowhere and there didn't seem any chance of getting the car started again but as she looked round she couldn't see any sign of life in the dark night. There seemed no option but to just strike out and see if she ran across anyone.
Grabbing her torch from the backseat, Orla picked a direction and started walking along the road. Half an hour later she hadn't seen any other vehicles on the road but there was a long drive leading up to a massive house which she decided to head up, guessing there'd be a phone there, she could phone a friend to collect her and deal with the car later.
Reaching the house Orla looked around and realised just how big it was, standing out in the moonlight like some opulent jewel. She'd been a small time burglar for the last two years, having been made redundant from her job and sick of work for the lowest pay imaginable, so had turned to breaking into houses whenever she ran out of cash. This mansion sitting in front of her was too much temptation and instead of ringing the bell she resolved to break in, see if she could find any cash or jewellery before calling for help.
Wrapping her jacket around her hand, Orla broke a window leading onto a deserted kitchen as quietly as she could. Waiting to see if anyone had heard, she slowly slipped into the room, making her way around the downstairs, her eyes widening at just how expensive everything looked, from the gigantic screen in the lounge to the obviously antique dining table.
Stuffing knickknacks into her pockets Orla looked around for a phone when she suddenly heard a door behind her slam open and the lights above her flickered on. Whirling around she prepared herself to run for it when a familiar face forced her to freeze on the spot, trying to place the person a few feet from her.
