I watch as Amy settles in her smile is reassuring, she takes her snow shoe off inside the tent, watching her flop around like a fish out of water it is all I can do to keep a strait face. suddenly I am brought back to realty.
“Do you think there’s another storm coming? It sure sounds strange out there?”
There is a brave little smile ton her face. It has been hard on her. She has not been raised to cope with a situation like this. But she is trying so damn hard.
“ Give me those”
I smile and take her snowshoes from her. I sit in the entrance of the tent, my feet outside and remove my snow shoes. It is close quarters in that little shelter. With Amy me and the pack just enough room to sit up if you kept your head bent.
“ Could be another storm brewing but we will just ride it out. nothing else to do really Amy”
I had thought about lying to her but decided not to she was an adult and had a right to know. I took out the Coleman lantern and lit it. it hissed and sputtered as I hung it from the hook and loop in the top of the tent then zipped the storm fly closed. I set the tow frozen water bottles out to thaw. Soon the tent begins to warm.
“And for tonight’s entertainment we shall watch the ice thaw, and with any luck will have some water in a bit ”
I teased her.
“Amy how are you doing sore I bet I know I am.”
