“Dan I’m coming. I’m hurrying.”
I can tell this isn’t good just by his whispered voice. After finally digging myself out of the snow, I make my way over to where he is. Oh God, there is blood coming from his mouth, snow is all over, and it is obviously he is in extreme pain. My heart is racing, terrified with this predicament, but I take a deep breath, panic is not the thing to do now and won’t help the situation. Leaning down close to him so that I can hear, I talk to him with a soft, calm voice.
“Dan, I’m here, you’re going to be okay. Just tell me what you need me to do.”
Glancing around as I talk to him, I notice his backpack slightly sticking out of the snow no longer on his back but not far from him. Knowing the first aid kit is in there along with other things, while still keeping my face close to his, I reach over pulling the pack from the snow. Although at this point, I’m not exactly sure of what he needs to help him.
