Broaden My Horizons Please... Musically

Try Valerie June - some of it is achy breaky heart, but she has an amazing voice and a way with a banjo.

For the rocking out, Foals - they veer from heavyish to fairly poppy. (Stick to the last two albums though - the earlier stuff is just weird, although also hilarious and surprisingly catchy.)

This is a new track by a local gal - I'm not loving her other stuff, but found this kind of addictive. (Possibly not entirely 'upbeat' though.) ... maybe try Lorde. People seem to be liking her, and she is pretty adorable.

For older things, Bob Mould/Sugar does some lovely stuff.

... and any ska. Ska is the actual definition of 'upbeat' (mostly).

Dad raised me on this kind of music! :D

That was definitely a broadening of my horizons. But so many love songs.

I had to dig around but I found some I liked.

Chaka Khan - The Woman I Am
Denroy Morgan - Higher Education
Teena Marie - Deja Vu

Thank you! :)

These are more like Disgustipated's recommendations since I picked them up from him last weekend.

Against Me! - Norse Truth
- a little angry but it's kind of my thing.

Mac Miller - Knock Knock
- I like the old mixed with the new.

And then one of my own, a song that has been playing in the back of my head recently....

G-Spliff - I know

O for 3 darlin'. Sorry. But that's okay. Last time you hit it out of the park. :rose:
That reminds me Meg Mac

I like her voice but she's not the happiest of songwriters.

john prine, long monday. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gvRpUUpSKrk
david grey, sail away https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_oyBnvibWEY

I'm not sure how/when you like to have music on but these are two of my recent favourites that get turned on while I'm relaxed with a glass of wine.

Thank you for trying, but I couldn't find any that rang my bells.

It's a Beautiful Day (Name of the group)

- Don and Dewey ( a real toe tapper)
- White Bird (You'll most likely recognize it and say oh THAT'S what that is!!)

I liked Don & Dewey and added that. Thank you. :)

A little too horny - of the wrong kind of horny.

It's a good song, but not my speed right now. Thank you anyway. :)

For future reference.

Added.

Cracked me up. Hahahaha... oh my.

From a PM suggestion:

Gary Clark Jr - Don't owe you a thang

Another round and more to do.

I'll be back to the thread another night.

Valerie June is awesome. Thank you so much for bringing her to my attention.

I liked this song by the Foals and added it:

Foals - Mountain at my Gates

Also added:

Bob Mould - Voices in my Head

I do not know if I will ever be the same after listening to that. That was a reality I didn't need to know of.

Tina Turner - Proud Mary, added

It's amazing how healthy Keith Richards looks. :D

From Dusk Til Dawn - finally found it on Amazon. Added.

Mary Hopkins - Those were the Days. Already have.

Nouela - Sounds of Silence. Truly a beautiful voice. Added.

That's a bit scary.

Steve Winwood is high as a kite in this recording. lol

I remember that song from when I was growing up. Added. Thank you.

did you just laugh dismissively at tmbg?

I would never do such a thing.

I finally remembered what song of theirs I was familiar with - Birdhouse in my Soul. Which I added.

Pink Floyd before they were popular. You may or may not know it.( subject to interpretation there is older stuff than this that kicks ass too ) Love this tune

http://youtu.be/9M23zjNrG9M

It's a bit of a love song. I dated a guy 20 years ago and he listened to Pink Floyd almost nonstop. I don't think I've ever forgiven Pink Floyd for that summer. ;)

Thanks everyone! :)
