Bush wants marriage reserved for heterosexuals - Working On A Proposed New Law

I agree with Pookie and Queersetti. God forbid that two people who love each other should be able to enjoy the same rights and benefits as heterosexual couples.

WOW!!! What an excellent thought that you made. Funny how it is exactly what I was saying all along.

Be gay, be a lesbo, do the fuck what you want. Just don't mess with my heterosexual marriage as ordained by God. It is that simple.

A Word from the 'Minority' On Both Sides

Hi,

For those of you that know me my name is Chad. I'm an, almost, 19 year-old male who has been born, bred, and raised in the Bible Belt. I hold Christian values (do unto other, honor thy father and mother, monogamy etc.) close to my heart as I was raised with them and even incorporate them into my Taoist-Wiccan practice of religion. I am uncomfortable around the majority of both gays and straights as I do not truly fit into either catagory since I am bisexual. I have a wonderful relationship with a girl whom I am very much in love with but, however, I don't rule out the possibility of a future relationship with another male should things not work out.

I have been following this issue very closely both through polls conducted, reading articles on it from every magazine and newspaper I can get my hands on, and watching the information on TV from both conservative and liberal news channels. The arguement from the Christians, and falsely, is that gays and lesbians are demanding the right to be married under the church and that would deface their idea of marriage. This could not be farther from the truth. While I myself could not picture my future mate to be anyone other than a woman, I do not look down upon the women in this world who are both sexually and emotionally attracted to women and men who are emotionally and sexually attracted to men. What the gay and lesbian communities are asking for is the right to marriage. Marriage, in this country, is defined as a legal union between a man and a woman that economically, emotionally, and physically provides for the well being of both parties.

Now, replace 'a man and a woman' with 'two people' and what do you have? Nothing so radically different as to devalue Christian beliefs. They aren't asking to be married in front of the congregation of a Southern Baptist church, though if the law is passed they have that legal right, just as the church has the right to refuse them the same as they do heterosexual couples. All they want is the same rights that heterosexual couples enjoy and, quite frankly, that they deserve. And as far as the arguement that gays and lesbians choose to be that way is a complete and utter fallacy. Undoubtedly there are people that choose that lifestyle just to make themselves different but, for the overwhelming majority, it is something they have struggled with all their lives, many of my closest friends and some family members included.

America claims to be on the cutting edge of the future and promises equal rights for all. Yet, when I look around me, immigrants seem to have more of a right to be American in the entire sense of the word than homosexual people. Between Roy Moore and his attempt to force the religious word of a Christian god into the recognized religion in this country to George W. Bush who, bless his ignorance, is trying to do what he believes the right thing by allowing homosexuals more rights but not equal rights, I fear where this country may be heading as far as the issue of gay and lesbian rights are concerned.

Don't get me wrong, I am neither liberal nor conservative but perfer to think of myself middle of the road and land on the side that most fits my beliefs on the issue, as all logical humans should be. I believe in strengthening families, though I believe our definition of family in this country is a little too narrow minded. I believe in a strong central government, but not at the cost of my civil liberties. I believe in standing up for your rights and what you believe in, but not at the cost of restricting others right and beliefs. I believe in the police and military of our country, but I don't believe that they should be used just to help out those that we decide fit our definition of those in need. We have freed the Iraqis after years of oppression and now, just as they are tasting true freedom, many want to bring our troops home because 'the war is over'. Well, that is too bad.

The problem I see with Americans is that wer are a fickle, fickle people for the majority who will support the person that suits our interests at the time. Frankly, I hope homosexuals get the right to marriage the same as heterosexuals do. And I hope that the liberals and Democrats in this country will stop complaining about our troops doing their jobs for helping rebuild a country that, after September 11th, an overwhelming (nearly 78% if I remember correctly) majority of the country thought we should bomb back into the stone age. So, in conclusion, conservatives need to loosen up a little. Liberals need to quit playing out in left field all the time. And we, as a country, need to grow a FUCKING BACKBONE AND STAND UP FOR EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE ON THIS GODDAMN PLANET LIKE WE CLAIM TO WANT OR I HOPE THIS TWO-FACED PIECE OF A GOVERNMENT AND CITIZENSHIP FALLS AWAY INTO HISTORY LIKE THE ROMAN EMPIRE IN THE PLACE OF SOMETHING BETTER TAKING HOLD.

Thank you from the Conservatively Liberal Middle of the Road, Gothic, Gun toating, vegetarian, patriotic, red-white-and blue blooded American:

What part of "equal" don't you understand?

I wouldn`t want to offend any of you Americans but i think Bush is a total wanker..

What gives him the right to tell people who they can and can`t marry?

Fuck Bush in his tight little asshole

I'm still trying to figure out how anyone loses if everyone gets the same rights? If I decide I want to spend my life with another man, how does that affect people who want to live with and love someone of the opposite sex? Isn't marriage the same whether it is two men, two women, or one (or more?) of each?

I happened to see a movie on cable one night, in which one partner in a 30-40 year lesbian relationship died, and the surviving partner was evicted from their home by her partner's family, and only allowed to take a single item from their home. After seeing that, the horror and pain of having no recognition for a lifetime of love and devotion, I cannot imagine any argument against allowing homosexuals the same standing, rights, and goddamned dignity as any other loving, devoted couple.

On the anti-marriage side, the arguments seem to fall into two categories: 1) God says it is bad, and 2) gay marriage will destroy society. 1) seems to put a religious test to full citizenship, which is a violation of the Constitution, and 2) makes no sense, in that I cannot imagine how socially-supported commited relationships can ever be a bad thing for society.

The vote is there...

for making a constitutional amendment saying that marriage is
reserved for male/female unions. The backlash against the
Supreme Court ruling is in full swing.

We'll be lucky if through this backlash we don't lose rights.

!@#$%^&&*((^%$#!!! :mad:
