Abundant research....not "oh a study"...many studies...will tell you a very simple human truth. When you do an act, whether reinforcing, neutral or aversive...that act is easier to do the next time. This psychological truth shows up in an abundance of forms, some blatant some subtle. There's something called the "mere exposure effect" and you and I have experienced it numerous times. It states that any stimuli, especially if not wholly aversive...will, over subsequent exposures, become less and less aversive. Translated into behavioral terms and this is abundantly clear in society, if you do a criminal act...it becomes easier...more probable...that you will do another criminal act. Not even necessarily the same act. You have "crossed a barrier" so to speak and, even if you step back, crossing that barrier again becomes easier. This is so ubiquitous it is astounding. Hell, I'm an example! You get divorced the 1st time...the 2nd is easier. You jump out of an airplane with a parachute...easier the 2nd time...well...provided you lived through the first time. I hope the point is clear but if not, anyone coming into the U.S. illegally, even for "legitimate" reasons, will re-offend with a higher likelihood, than had that same person come into the county legally. We can discuss the why's the how's...the fact is, this is absolutely the case. Doesn't mean all illegal immigrants will offend. Never said that. These are probablistic statements, ok? Complex things are complex. So I am very fascinated and astounded that people are so irrational as to look reality in the eye and say "nope"...due to ideology? And to be fair, I will give a "leftist" example and a "right wing" example. For the leftist....please...Biden had dementia going INTO the 2020 campaign. This is fact. Now...maybe you didn't know but I think anyone with any sort of ability to think over the last 3.5 years cannot claim...this person is at all competent. That is a claim that I am literally giving people credit in not believing. If you truly thought "he's ok"...you need to see a doctor. Not being sarcastic! OK, to the other side...which btw, is not "my side". This actually applies over and above politics but this astounds me as well: Religion. People talk about God... and often they are talking not about God but about a specific form of God, the god of the Bible. I know all about the bible...grew up in that universe. I look at it now through the lens of empiricism and I think, how can a person maintain this belief and even more, feel that maintaining that belief is a sign of a "higher being" or self? So I did something few if any "believers" do: I looked at the bible with a "critical thinking" mindset. BTW, critical thinking is not something the brain is good at, far from it. I know...this is something I spent years studying. Maybe you've heard of the idea of "confirmation bias"...which is a "natural" way the brain thinks. That is the opposite of critical thinking, so...if natural...it rather follows that critical thinking is something we need to literally train ourselves to do - it's not natural...wasn't for me, isn't for you. But I am very well trained in that and in the scientific method which is not "the science"...anyone who knows science would never say that. Looking at the bible I just...shake my head. Forget the factual errors, forget all that...I don't have to use anything but the bible to show the bible cannot be true! And it's funny to me, people say "i believe in god". No...you don't. You believe in a book claiming to show you god. That's not god. I'm not even going to say anything like "there is no god". How about this: I don't know. I mean, what is the question? God? Define that! But no, I don't believe in the thing described by the bible as god and if anyone thought it through...they would not either. So...conservatives have a higher religiousity than liberals and to me that kind of belief is no different..well a bit...but no more rational, than a liberal looking at "their guy" and saying, "I see no issue." So IDK...just was thinking over some things and btw, in my area we use the term "irrational" very different than the typical usage. "Irrational" does not mean crazy, or wacko, etc. Irrational in judgment means not adhering to the normative model which is Bayes Theorem. Irrational in the decision-making realm means not being a "utility maximizer" which is the normative model. Some irrationality is very uninteresing...you have 3 cars and are deciding to buy one (decision making)...is it hard to believe that you would buy the one that is LESS valuable to you than the other options, and you pay the same price? It is the case and in some ways, sure, interesting but in other ways not because cars are complex...not a "thing" rather a "bundle of features". Not all features are equally valuable to you and the options all perform differently on those features so in a way, to determine the car with the most "value" to you involves a lot of calculation and we know our brains are horrible calculators! That's what computers do. They don't think! But they do calculate. So you go home with the option that is less "valuable" to you...even maybe paying more! But I am truly fascinated with how and why people believe some of the things we do! For liberals I do have a certain "out" for you in that maybe..maybe...some truly did not know. If you I guess do not see things for yourself and just buy into the narrative, never testing it, I guess you could be fooled. Heres the $100,000 question: You now know you've been gaslit and to a huge degree by the dem party. You cannot deny that. No matter WHO the dems replace Biden with if they do...how can you trust the replacement? How can you maintain trust after realizing the sheer amount of gaslighting? Now, you are probably making a bad assumption..."this guy is a Trump whatever". Fanboy? Whatever pegorative? Welllll, no. No. And I have my own "beliefs"...and one is that anyone seeing the world through "left" v "right" lens is missing the point. I have evidence but...imperfect evidence. So I maintain the belief but only probablistically. Trump is definitely the better option v Biden or any dem replacement. However, I have a bad feeling the entire thing is theatre. I have a feeling...with evidence...that elections have been theatre for a LONG time. Look: The right needs to explain 9.11 and the Patriot Act. The left? Needs to explain the last 3 years. Like the old show, both sides "have some 'splaining to do!" And both sides are run by the same puppetmaster and the U.S. is just...a piece on the chessboard. Not the board. So...I don't know! But...don't think because I might pull the lever for Trump that I see that as The Savior. What needs to happen cannot happen and that is the entire system taken apart. Its true, I have blinders. So please tell me about this government they set up. That would be a pretty big deal and considering I try like hell to not see sports or celebrities I somehow know the Super Bowl was rigged in a psyop to get young people, primarily women to vote against Trump. Something called a Swiftboat torpedoed and Orange or something. i'm pretty sure a pirate got in a fight with the Queen of Atlantis and she shat the bed. But since the entire ocean is a toilet its only to be expected that she would shit in it.
