Yep. I cut my AC on for a bit over the weekend. My electric bill is outrageous, though, during the summer. I tried one summer to go without AC. It was so humid, the wallpaper starting coming off the walls and the paper was so wet, I couldn't get it to run through my printer. I won't be trying that again. I'll just suck it up and folk over the bucks.

I hear ice can be quite cooling, shall we play with some??? lol

Wow.....that is crazy. I remember growing up (and I am only 23) when we finally got a window unit and it was only in my parents room as my dad was working 3rd shift and it helped him sleep. Going into that room during the day was a TREAT. At night, open the windows and turn on the attic fan.

Our AC went out two years ago, we used the attic fan and fans around the house. I would wake up and my eyes would be red from the pollen I guess....kind of crazy how we take stuff for granted now.

Yeah, I didn't have AC growing up, either. My mom got a car with AC before we had a house that had it. In the summer, we used to love to go for a ride and cool off.

And I rarely wore shoes in the summer. I remember going shopping barefoot and walking on the paint lines in the parking lot to avoid the black asphalt. Those were the days before 'no shoes, no service.' Oh the memories . . .

Hi everyone! In between Charlotte and Winston myself, but originally from the mountains of NC. Would love to chat!

I remember all of this, as well. We didn't get A/C in our house until I was about 18 - and then it was only on the first floor. I miss the attic fan. That did wonders for cooling the house off quickly. I used to go play at one girl's house in the neighborhood in the summer. I couldn't stand her, for the most part, but her house was the only one that central air conditioning in our whole area. (Baltimore City gets REALLY hot in the summer!)

I remember following the shade around in the back yard to just stay somewhat cool.

I laugh at my kids (and husband) when they whine and complain about me not turning the A/C below 78º :D

hello there stranger, love the sharing. I remeber just one window unit when growin up. Was hell when they died as got hot super fast.

I feel sorry for my future kids...hearing them complain about the heat. I can hear it now.

"I remember when we didn't have AC"...haha
