CASTING CALL for Open Thread: The Bowery

Re: To market....to market!

Great idea, Dusty :)

It allows for a little hustle and bustle, plenty of opportunities for contacts, exchanges, fleeting glances, flirtations.....ahhhhh, such a delight to be surrounded by all you creative folks!

As for you, Ms. chanaud...

::narrowing my eyes suspiciously::

you, sitting on the sidelines in a short little cheerleader's skirt...with McKenna? Now how do we know that there won't be any hanky panky? Especially since you keep mentioning Turk's sexy dome  Now, if I see him show up here outside of Rick's, I'll know something suspicious is going on! ;)

Cheers,
AriO

Thanks Arioso, and of course most markets run into the late evening, so it allows for the errr.... Ladies of the Night to get a chance to find someone for the evening.

Might I suggest starting the thread pretty soon, if too many people join up it might prove to be confusing. It looks like we might need one more guy. Jess and I can pair up, it's no problem for us, we've been roleplaying together here since february of 2002 :D

Do I count three cheerleaders?

Distributes garage-sale pom-poms and attempts to organize a human pyrmid with McKenna and Chanaud. Chanaud sends a telegram to Turk requesting assistance with the pyramid. Turk, who has a thing for Chanaud, overcompensates and provides us with assistants. The assistants book us a suite at the Mena Oberoi. With the scent of jasmine drifting in from the open French doors of our balcony and the room service steward waiting for us to finish our pomegranate martinis so he can serve the first of six courses to be sent up courtesy of the head chef at The Moghul Room (he's in love with McKenna), it's difficult to remember New York City, and poor people in particular...Where were we? Oh yes, The Bowery thread. Cheerleaders. Rah. Etc.

:D

Ladies, keep those pom-poms ready! We absolutely must go back to The Bowery OOC thread, as soon as Akil clears the dessert course...Whose camel is this?

re: character Karina

Sorry.. scrap the money lender idea. I got carried away.
Baker and whore should about cover things. But hey if anyone needs to borrow a couple bucks come to me.

Sounds good, Dusty

What a team we've got!

Okay, folks, Dusty's right...we've got a veritable smorgasbord here. I invite you all to start seeking out your partners. Rest assured, if there are at least 3 people you'd like to write with, we can mix & match as the story unfolds.

How about this -- I'll get it started sometime tomorrow afternoon...say, by 3:00 pm EST or so? Or will that be unworkable for the folks who can't post on the weekend?

Prometheus, what say ye?

Cheers,
AriO

Sounds great to me, I'll start working on my character description and the storyline since my character has some really big secrets ;)

Tomorrow would be great, Jess and I are leaving around noon on Saturday for the Texas Lit Get Together, there might be internet access somewhere there at the hotel and if there is we will try to get a post in sometime. Otherwise we will be back in action on Sunday afternoon.

An opening still available?

Greetings listmates,

This is the type of co-authoring I have been searching for, where the story takes precedence over the erotic encounters.

If allowed, I would like to participate as a saloon or tavern keep, being in the "new land" almost 12 years now from the Rhineland.

I do try to post daily if life allows, but sometimes it might be a day or two during those few times

Pet peeves...hmm...I am in the same boat with most of you...in the one liners...out of character actions, demeanor and words...directing the storyline to sexual situations just for the sake of

Personal interests...varied...to create as rich a tapestry as possible and to develop the story/character as diversely and deeply as possible...and as much interaction with as many of the characters as feasibly possible

posting partner...a female, when the "personal" moments arise...but I try to be as flexible as possible to fit the given situation

I thank you for your consideration and to what ever decision is made.

Welcome Roland!

Sounds like a wonderful character---and thank you for joining us :)

Egads! All of you folks are so industrious...my character is still in the partially-made stages  I'm actually going to have to settle on a home situation and a job of some sort...ack!

I'll try to get a handle on it by tomorrow...meanwhile, keep chattin' eachother up, make friends, and find yerself a dancin' pardner!

Cheers,
AriO :rose:

WOW! I leave leave just long enough to throw another log on the fire and look what happens.

Welcome everybody, Might I suggest that we gently persuade AriO to start a list of characters and descriptions at the top of this OOC thread so that we can keep track of who's who and newcomers can go there for reference also. (Now that this thread is 2 going on 10 pages long, lol If she wants she can list the cheering section. (It is nice to know one has an audience)

Market and bar, works for me now that we have a bartender, maybe a room above the tavern for our resident prostitute. Or would she rather work out of her own place, cati ?.

I think we can move from place to place if we keep track of whos who and where they are in time when we want to interact with more than one other character.

I'll be gone for the weekend but go ahead and start without me. I'll catch up Monday morning.

I'll be around for today if nothing more than to enjoy the inteaction of the cute 'buns'.

Your wish is my command

Done and done, O Bringer of Fire (or, in this case, O Lighter of Fire Under My Ass...) :p

I'll be back in a couple of hours to launch the actual thread. Stay tuned.

Cheers,
AriO :rose:

cati

Room above the tavern would serve me well...smiles.
Did I see another prostitute somewhere in the crowd?

The market place is prime for a centralization of the story. This gives a grand opportunity for the interactions of many characters.

I like the idea of rooms to lend above the tavern as well, as long as the sound of coins dropped into his hand is heard, my character is happy.

From the looks of those participating, I am excited that this has the promise of being a superb creation with a wonderful cast.

I will post a background synopsis of my character soon.

Looking forward for the meshing to begin.

The Game's Afoot!

Okay, wonderful players -- the thread has been started. It's called, simply, The Bowery, and you can find it at the following link:

The Bowery

Hope to see many of you there soon.

Enjoy! :)

Cheers,
AriO

Little Character embelishment

Little more information on my character. Thought that it would help.(hehehe):)

Johann Grundemann
24 year old raised in the Bowery
Spent the past 8 years working on the docks and learning life the hard way. Grew up like many other immigrants even though he isn't one.(technically speaking) Most of his money goes to support his family. Although he does make some extra money through various other means. Some honest; some not so honest.

Well that is all until I post. I like the market scene though. And everyone seems so....nice. Can't wait to start writing with you all.

And a thank you to all those that welcomed me to the thread and a special thank you to Arisio for starting an 'open thread'. Thanks again

Johann Zimmer

Johann is a rental agent, working for the bank. He collects the rents for the absentee landlords. He takes his duties seriously, but is not heartless, though he knows who puts bread on his table.

He's in his early 40's, well built and fairly large. Brown hair, hazel eyes, well groomed goatee. He is well educated and speaks english well, but his accent is undeniably German, Rheinpfaltz to be exact.

Re: The Game's Afoot!

Oh, perfect. I commit myself to the sidelines as a cheerleader and now you reveal the foot fetishist angle. Next you'll have the great-grandfather of Manolo Blahnik building his first lasts in the Bowery, just to make his fans squirm.

(His "first lasts!" That wasn't even on purpose. Clever?)

:D

Well Nita might turn into one.

Karina

26 year old Karina Maki (Riihimaki) arrived in New York in autumn of 1888 with her young son Mikko (Micki). Karina's husband had died of diptheria two years earlier in Finland. A second cousin on her mother's side invited them both to join them and help operate a small bakery in the bowery of New York. With a small inheritance and few possessions, enterprising Karina arrives and opens a kiosk in the "market" selling breads and pastries to the ethnic population.
Being a pretty, and talented brunette, she also caters to customers in the evening offering pastry of a different sort.

Delicious "pastries"

:D

Love your character development. Do remember, cati, that if you intend this to be part of the Bowery thread, it should actually go in that thread.

If, however, this was just part of your description of your character, then it's fine to leave it here in the OOC Casting Call thread. But from here on out, all of the action will take place in the thread titled "The Bowery ||| An Open Thread"

Cheers,
AriO :rose:

Karina

sheesh I didn't see the new spot and yes from now on i will post where I'm supposed to...sheepish grin..sorry about that
