Hello, I hope someone has some good advice for me on two issues

Issue one. I am working on my second series. In my first series (not entirely published yet), all five chapters fell pretty squarely in the Nonconsent/Reluctance category, so I didn't have a problem. My second series is a little more complicated. The first Chapter, I think should be Erotic Couplings. Chapters 2-3 really both should be Nonconsent/Reluctance. Then 4-6 I believe go back to Erotic Couplings. Is it okay to break a series into different categories like that? Is it a bad idea, risking people not seeing the whole series?

I really don't want to just call the whole thing Erotic Couplings and draw in someone who may be triggered by the nonconsent aspects of 2-3. Is the answer here to use the nonconsent tag for 2-3?

Second issue: Erotic Couplings is kind of generic. This whole series would really fit better into a category called Infidelity, if such a category existed. Does the staff take suggestions for new categories?

Thanks!

Cindy

There is no one answer. Some people will post everything in one category, others will post in whatever category they feel is appropriate for that chapter. Note that Laurel can assign a different category if the content doesn't match.

Technically that is Loving Wives. But post there at your own risk.

No.

How long are your chapters and is it a continuous story?
There's no issue with finding chapters across categories, but Non-con is a specific kink. Most people who are looking for stories in ec are probably not looking for a non-con story and vice versa, so I'm not sure there's any benefit to putting the first chapter in ec as such.

Assuming it's a continuous story, I'd suggest merging some (or all) chapters and putting it in non-con.

I've never seen the sites to act on suggestions for categories.

The chapters are 3-4K words. Thanks for the advice on specificity of kink. I think the protagonist is submissive enough in the other chapters that nc people will be happy.

You're welcome.

re your chapter length, I've found that, as a whole, readers here tend to prefer longer chapters than you'd expect in a standard novel. While with 3-4k chapters you can submit individually, however you could combine or post in a single entry if you wish. a 20-30k story is well within the "normal" of a stand-alone story. (I, personally, prefer shorter chapters, but that doesn't seem the norm based on what I hear others saying.)

Uh..... why do you say post there at my own risk?
The readers in Loving Wives fall into two categories - those who love stories about infidelity and those who abhor it. The ones who hate infidelity will 1-bomb your scores and leave hateful comments on your stories. If you have a thick skin and don't let the hateful comments bother you, you'll be good. You will get more views in LW than you will in Erotic Couplings however.

I'd submit a single standalone story into Non-con. 3 - 4k chapters aren't long by Lit standards (about one Lit page, thereabouts), so with six chapters, that's a 24k story. That's a good length for a standalone story.

Thank you all so much. If a 20K story is acceptable as a single entry, then I will just do that and put it under nc/r. You were all so helpful!

For your first issue, breaking the series into different categories is fine just use clear tags (like Nonconsent for Ch. 2-3) to warn readers. Transparency helps avoid surprises. For the second, Infidelity is a great idea! While I’m not sure if staff takes suggestions, it’s worth reaching out. Clear categorization and tags will help you reach the right audience. Good luck with your series!
