The people that infuriate me are people buying black market silver foxes from Russia or keeping bengal tigers in NYC apartments (real)
I'd pick up the phone and rat those people out in a New York minute.

Cats, to be truthful, despite all the puppyplay I've been fantasizing about.
My whole family speaks fluent cat.

Lately we are learning a bit of Possum as well...

I like any and all animals. I get along with them all, for the most part. Some of the more exotic types I'm not that familiar with, though. I can't go into a shelter or I'll be leaving with every animal in there. I'm such a sucker for a sad "take me with you" face.

the tiger was a pretty publicized bust, nutty huh?
Somehow, "nutty" seems inadequate here.

Do you think we'll ever outlaw tigers, elephants, and such in US circuses? Sometimes I think there's hope for this type of progress; sometimes not.

I love dogs. DGE nailed it. I feel like my dog is a happy bright shining piece of fur in my life. Prepare yourself though for what follows.

I think it was the poor girl's first day.

It's wonderful that she has you to love her... :p

(I know, her fur has grown in since this pic, right? )

I like both, but I'd be more of a cat person.

LOLcats and their cute kitties definitely make me want a kittie. :D

Cats or dogs? Both? Neither?

There is no "obligatory other" because I'm interested in cats vs dogs. You don't hear people say "oh I'm a fish person" but people do seem to "identify" with cats or dogs - me, I'm a "cat person."

Feel free to mention, though, if you REALLY REALLY LOVE turtles, guinea pigs, iguanas, etc. :)

Four cats, nine dogs.

I'm a dog person. I feel kindly towards all animals, but I honestly don't "get" why people have cats.

I want a pet I can go hill-walking with. I want a pet that will force me to go out and walk a few miles in the fresh air 365 days a year. I want a pet I can have a genuine two-way relationship with. Hence I have always had dogs.

I wonder what it says for this forum that between cats and dogs, currently, there are more cat people? Where I live it is becoming fashionable not to like cats.

Actually, I have no idea what it says for the forum....

For what it is worth, I voted for cats. Although I don't mind dogs.

Cats. They don't bark, stink, or need my help to take a shit. My cats are indoor but I don't mind cats killing birds. It's quite a thrill to see a cat leap six feet in the air and come down with a warm breakfast. God makes extra. There are tons of outside cats in this neighborhood and no shortage of birds. Squirrels too for that matter.

I think I could bond with a dog. But it's not in the plans for now.

I've been having a lot of want a doggie moments lately - this must be how most women my age get around the idea of babies - anyway, I started researching breeds, not that I'd get a purebred necessarily if I were going to get a dog.

It's weird because both M and T were doing fantasy dog breed selection as well atg the same time.

I determined that I should never have a min pin from researching them for about a half hour. Cute, though. I also learned that min pins are in fact an older breed than Dobermans, who have no part in the making of the smaller dog.

i love animals in general and have a great fondness for dogs, but i'm a really lover of cats. i agree with FurryFury in that they are not as cold or aloof as many non-cat people tend to think they are. i enjoy the bolder, more striking personalities of cats in comparison to dogs, and the fact that they choose you (to stay with you, show affection for you, etc.) everyday. i think i'm not more of a dog person because i'm somewhat dog-like emotionally myself...i love unconditionally, will give of myself to extremes and never expect or feel i deserve anything in return. so i can relate to dogs, but it doesn't give me that yin/yang balance thing i get with cats.

one day i do really really want to adopt a shelter doggie though, preferably a pit bull breed because i have a special fondness for the stronger but oft-misunderstood breeds.

Yes! Pits are SO often misunderstood. A friend of mine has a pit and she is just the sweetest dog you ever did meet.

That thing is weird. I keep telling it I want a dog with short hair, and it keeps insisting the German Spitz is the best breed for me. It looks like a Pomeranian - I do not consider that short hair! It also recommends the English Cocker Spaniel...again, they have long hair!

Okay, I changed it to Must Have Fine/Smooth Coat. Now my first match is a Whippet. They are so graceful...

i confess. i am a cat person. i know. it really is sad. i try to be a dog person. i do. i have three dogs. i love them all. the big one is a sweetheart. she is calm and steady, until a squirrel runs by. the two boys are just crazy. they have their own pack mentality going on. i love hanging out with them, but they always want something. i miss my cats. i had to get rid of them due to household allergies. cats or kid. i chose wisely. i can relate to the cat mentality. find a window with sun, lay back, snooze, eat, drink, chase a bug, go back to the window with sun. stretch out. rub the tummy. curl up. sleep. i have hesitated to post on the human pet thread, but if i do, it is going to be about my mental link to the cat. they can be feisty too! descendants from the great and mighty lion. oh yeah. time for another nap now.

It's grown. :) He's all shaggy and fabulous again. I was way too much wine in when I posted, but I meant it was the groomer's first day. She gave a lousy summer cut.

On a side note: I don't dislike cats. I just think they don't quite give the same return on investment.

That's quite a clan. Troll or not, you can't be all bad.

They're my 'kids'.

The cats were all adopted.

Of the dogs, 'mom' and 'dad' were adopted, and then did what dogs will do: have seven pups.

Unable to break up their family, my wife and I kept them all.

The pups are now eight years old, mom is nine and dad is fourteen.

With the cats, the eldest is fifteen and the youngest two.

I'm a cat person, but my husband is allergic to cats. So I became a pet person. We currently have a bird and a snake.

We had a rescue dog for about two years, before our kids were born, but the dog became very territorial around me. When he bit my husband, we had to give him away.

My husband wants to get a new dog, but he's been honoring my objections so far. I'm already overwhelmed by my current responsibilities and he is willing to acknowledge that I'll be the one taking care of it. :)
