Caught

Catherine giggled and began to relax when James mentioned how he preferred the screw top bottles to the sometimes bothersome corked bottles. She watched as James craftily removed the tight cork with the hint of a ‘pop’. Seizing the opportunity, Catherine could not resist her reply. “James you have a certain talent n pulling things out of tight holes”. Catherine took the offered glass and raised it up, peering over the top for his reaction to her comment.

Catherine eyed James as he absorbed what she said. A small nervous smile creased his rugged and handsome face. Catherine was captivated with James by now. So much so that she slowly crossed legs in her best “Fatal Attraction” imitation she could pull off in her gown.

James the invitation is the least I could do after the gift you gave me”, Catherine purred over the rim of her new wine glass.

I laughed at her comment about the cork, a mixture of disbelief and nervousness. As I tried to formulate a response, I smiled and felt a slight flush in my cheeks.

"Getting them out isn't the hard part. The true talent is getting it in to begin with."

Raising my glass, I held it to my nose and took a slight sniff of the wine. Raising my lips to the glass, I tipped a small amount into my mouth and held it briefly before swallowing. Through the glass I could see her moving. Under the pretense of lowering my glass, I followed her legs upwards from the ankles until they disappeared into her dress. Catching her eye just as she commented on the glass, I smiled and shifted to get more comfortable on the couch.

"I'm glad you like it. It was the least I could do, given the...untimely death, shall we say, of your other one. I take partial responsibility for that, by the way."

I smiled again, tipping my glass towards her.

She listened with intense delight as James spoke. He was down to earth, witty, funny. There was no air of superiority that she could detect.

Catherine’s eyes twinkled as he responded to her remark about the cork. “Well James, somehow I don’t see you having a problem getting that ummm…cork into a wet tight spot”. Catherine giggled as she raised her wine glass to meet his, studying his fine features over the rim of the glass. Catherine slowly returned her glass to the coffee table, fully aware that James was taking in here shapely legs. She was now glad that she chose a dress that would afford him an ample view of her runner’s legs.

Catherine smiled as he offered to take responsibility for the untimely death of the wine glass now resting peacefully in the trash compactor. “James I have to admit, what I saw was well worth that wine glass shattering out on the balcony”. Raising her glass and admiring it, she continued with a huge grin “I have to admit, your…ummm…performances were very riveting James”.

I laughed as she continued the innuendo-laden discussion of the cork.

"Managing the cork is only half of the problem. The rest lies with having a willing place to put it."

As she spoke, I reached down and unbuttoned the cuffs of my shirt. The room seemed to have gotten warmer, and without taking my eyes off of her I rolled my right sleeve up a few turns. Taking my glass in my left hand, I rolled the other sleeve up.

"I'm glad you liked it," I said with a smile. "Obviously it isn't something that I do on a regular basis."

"Although I'm afraid I missed your performance," I said, bringing my glass to my lips with a grin and pausing, "the view was still spectacular."

I recalled the sight of her eyes closed, perched above a pair of smiling lips as she sat on her balcony. The same eyes and lips that I was being drawn into now, and the same balcony that was only a few feet away.

Catherine was enjoying the free flowing banter they were sharing. It was as if they had known each for a considerable amount of time. Catherine began to twirl strands of her hair between her fingers signifying great interest. She looked up at James who was smiling gat her after his last comment on the cork. “James I am certain you will have no problem finding a willing place to put it in, and sooner than later I am willing to bet”.

She watched as he rolled up his shirt sleeve. Even that simple little task of his was so sexy and charming. Catherine also felt that the room was getting warmer than normal, perhaps a result of their suggestive conversation. She felt her face flush when he mentioned missing her performance and realized she was about to break out in a most embarrassing sweat, something she dreaded anyone seeing, especially James, especially tonight.

Catherine slowly rose to her feet and suggested they retire to the balcony where there was certain to be a nice evening breeze. She had already anticipated this move therefore the candles were already lit when they stepped outside.

She turned to James, smiling as she sipped her wine. “I must admit James that your performance had a direct impact on my performance, I thank you for that kind sir.”. with that she stepped closer to him and softly clinked her glass to his, looking into his beautiful eyes.

It was hard to believe the conversation that we were having. I smiled, watching her blush and toy with her hair. Following her out onto the balcony, I watched as the dress swayed and clung to her body, elegant and sexy at the same time. As we stepped out into the evening, I felt a cool wind blowing across the balcony. The flames from the candles were blowing and flickering lightly in the breeze, causing small splotches of light to dance across the patio.

I returned her gaze as she stepped closer to me, speaking and tipping our glasses together.

"You're welcome" I said with a smile, taking a sip and turning my gaze across the courtyard.

Looking across the open space, I quickly found the balcony of my apartment and focused on the gaps in the blinds. I could easily see the entire couch; it was a much better view than I was expecting. I had assumed...wrongly, as it turned out...that her view through the blinds would have been much worse than my view to her balcony.

"Scene of the crime, huh?"

Taking another sip of wine, I turned my gaze back to her, letting them adjust to the light so that I could look deep into her eyes.

"Great view" I said, smiling and keeping my eyes focused on her.

Shadows cast by the flickering candles danced around the small but intimate balcony she was now sharing for the first time with James. Catherine smiled inwardly at the thought that all of this marvelous evening was a series of firsts with the handsome man from across the way. Catherine lifted her face to capture the gentle breeze touching them both. Closing her eyes she lifted up onto her tippy toes, stretching her arms out wide. “I feel like Rose from the movie ‘titanic’” Catherine whispered.

Opening her eyes she looked into his shimmering eyes and half curtsied as their wine glasses clinked together. His ‘your welcome’ caused her to gaze over towards his apartment, bringing back the happy memories of how he stirred her sexuality to new levels.

Slowly she shook her head as she peered across the way, “No James definitely not the scene of the crime, more like the scene of passion”. Smiling, she knew that James was looking directly at her. She turned to him and took a step closer and took a long sip from her glass.

Tentatively she reached out and let her finger tip trace down from his right shoulder down to his arm and then across the back of his hand. “James I…I am so glad you accepted my invitation this evening, thank you”. Emotion welled up inside her, hoping she was not too personal in touching him like she did. Her face felt like it was on fire, tears of emotion lurking in the corner of her eyes. She did not want to blow it and rush things with James.

Using her hand she tried fanning her face to cool her escaping emotions. “whew”, she giggled, “I think the wine is giving me a bit of a rush”. With that Catherine put her glass down and turned her back to the balcony and gently rested against it with both hands resting on the railing, smiling gently at James in the process.

I watched as she surveyed the courtyard, silhouetted by the lights below. When she stepped closer to me, I could see the details of her face flickering in and out of the candlelight. Despite the breeze, I caught the occasional whiff of her perfume.

"It's me that should be thanking you for the invitation. I would have been crazy to turn it down."

I felt her finger tracing along my shoulder; when it brushed across my bare arm and over my hand, my body felt like an electric current was being passed through it. All I wanted to do was sweep her into my arms and carry her back into the apartment...assuming either of us could make it that far. Her voice only exacerbated the matter...it was like the soft sound of music, dictating the dance of the candlelight across the darkness of the balcony.

All of my senses seemed to be fighting each other; the sight of her, the smell of her perfume, the sound of her voice, and the feel of her skin all clambered for control. As she leaned against the balcony and smiled, I stepped towards her. Standing to her side, I leaned my hip against the edge of the balcony and let my arm rest along the railing. The wind had blown a strand of hair across her eye. Reaching up, I gently pushed it behind her ear.

"Just the wine? Or is there something else on your mind," I said quietly.
