Changing the title of a thread?

Is it possible to change the title of a thread you started? Like if you misspelled something in the title and didn't catch it until 45 people responded? Or if you chose a really lame title and wanted to spice it up to get more attention?

(sorry if this has been posted already, I kept getting the "Page cannot be found" error when i should have gotten search results  )

That only works in the first few seconds after you've posted a thread -- I'm not sure how long you've got but it's usually less time than a dial-up user has available to notice the mistake.

The site administrators can edit thread titles, but to the best of my knowledge they are the ONLY ones who can -- i.e. it can't be done through the forum software but requires access to the raw database files.

You can PM Laurel or use the "contact us" link at the bottom of each page to request a correction, but don't hold your breath unless you have a VERY good reason for editing the title. With the number of people who wish they could change thread titles, Laurel and Manu simply can't accomodate every request for correction of a typo.

Now that's got to be the stupidest thing i've ever heard

I've never even seen an admin or mod ON this site.

What is so hard about opening up that option?

You just haven't been looking in the right place -- the Administrators are Laurel and Manu and there are moerators for almost all of the individual forums have one or more moerators assigned: LadyG is the moderator fo rthis forum; the moderators for other forums arelisted in the right-hand column of the index page.

What is hard about opening up that option is that, as far as I know, "that option" doesn't exist -- i.e. it's NOT something the software is designed to permit.

The administrators/site owners can do it only by having access to the forum database files and bypassing the forum software. That's NOT something that can be given to just anyone because it gives accesss to more than just typos in thread titles or the text of the usernames.

The short time frame where a title change will take affect is probably NOT an adjustable function of the software, but a quirk of how the servers buffer changes.
