Cheyenne - The Board Sensor

I was going to post something but thought better of it and deleted it.

Good advice for others to consider.

About as crass as this ill-advised and totally unnecessay thread?

Mensa, it is, of course, your right to think so.

My intention was not to flame Cheyenne. I like Cheyenne. I don't like her tactics and I feel they effect the entire board, thus the public thread.

Wouldn't pms be more appropriate?

Possibly. Do you also then think that when Cheyenne feels the need to publicly "out" a contradiction from a board member that she should have done it in private?

Mystified.

Perhaps you misinterpreted her intentions. She might have been gently ribbing Laurel over a perceived inconsistency.

Sarcasm is difficult to convey over the Board.

I'm just a little surprised that you would choose this venue. You are usually such a considerate person who avoids hurting others feelings. Seeing you berate Cheyenne in so public a fashion just isn't usually your style.

Sarcasm is difficult to convey over the board, that's why we have these:rolleyes: rolleyes(sarcastic)

You're right, Mensa. It isn't my style. I resort to it when I see others being called on the carpet unnecessarily.

And, no, I don't think it is all that difficult to convey sarcasm in writing. I am also quite sure that wasn't Cheyenne's intention.

My only regret with this post is that it seems to have happened after Cheyenne logged off. I don't like that this was made public without her being present to defend herself, if that is what she wishes to do.

I'm sure Laurel's big enough to take it. She's been called considerably worse things than inconsistent and never batted an eye.

Sometimes by me. Cat lover!!!:p

So that Cheyenne has just that opportunity when she next logs on.

When I woke up this morning

I had a stinky salmon in my foyer and a dead frozen reindeer on my porch. PC will end up paying for this dearly. I'm certain the ASPCA is hot on my tail.

i think cheyenne is cool yes she has an amazing memory to bring up old threads ... but when she does this she doesnt openly flame someone she just sort of asks "hm whats the meaning of you saying this now when you said that earlier"

maybe some people find it annoying but i dont think shes doing anything wrong

It would be good to remind yourself of Spock from Star Trek when dealing with Cheyenne. She means no harm and she's not heartless, but she's cold and has a one-dimensional savant like talent for digging. She's ALL left brain. Not malicious. There's a difference.

Its the same thing every time just different topics. One person gives their opinion, it turns into a flame. I like Chey, I don't think she does anything wrong. She takes the info she has and poses questions about it...she doesn't flame (for the most part). Ruby, you have every right to ask what is up here on the open board, there is no reason to go to pm if you didn't want to, I don't consider this a flame against Chey.

In my opinion...just mine! I think we should be able to give out thoughts and opinions without the risk of it being a flame. Of course, a flame is a flame...I am fairly certain we can all tell the difference, can't we? Thats what pisses people of...no, wait, let me rephrase that, thats what pisses me off, people can state their opinions, just think a bit about the style in which you do so.

Do you catalogue what every poster ever says and cross-match it to make sure there is never a contradiction?

I find it highly offensive that you seem to sit at your computer watching for one of us to step out of line. I imagine you waiting patiently to dig up just the right thread to throw in somebody's face.

I had a whole response typed up and the board lost it as I hit the "preview" button. I'll try again, but the flow of my answer has been lost.

No, I don't do what you say. I'm not a sensor, or a censor. Everyone is free to post what they want to. That is what I frequently state. However, I am free to post my comments on what others have posted. That is how the bb works. And I am consistent. I don't change my responses based on who I am addressing- friend/enemy/Laurel/newbie. All will get the same response as I don't change my opinions or beliefs to fit the situation.

Yes, I do catalogue what every poster says (the ones I read, anyway). The catalogue is IN MY HEAD. I've tried to explain this gift before. The best description I can come up with is that it is like having a photographic memory for patterns, words, images. When I read something that doesn't fit that historical pattern in my head, it jumps off the page at me in neon print. If I pull up an old thread to illustrate a point, it is to put the rest of you on the same playing field so you are working with the same set of facts as I am. That thread I pull up is already in my head before I go to look for it, sometimes almost word for word. A slight difference from sitting and waiting, using research skills to find inconsistent comments to throw in people's faces. There is no research, just documentation of what I already know to be there.

In daughter's thread on religion, she asked for opinions. In that thread, I agree that blanket ridicule of religious people is accepted- here and in other places in the world. Ironically, YOU posted first about your thread.

I don't ridicule other people's religions. I have posted "Kissing Hank's Ass," which I find to be a very funny parody on religion in general, while not attacking any one faith.

I made two points with my reference to your thread at that point. The first was that you never addressed my final comment posted to you at your thread about your parody being a slam against Christians, and you knew it but didn't care. My post there was an example of what daughter was looking for in her religious thread and I referenced my comments accordingly. The second was that Laurel had posted a "LMAO" on your parody thread. It bothered me then, but I didn't say anything because Laurel has a right to laugh at whatever she wants to. But it seemed very inconsistent with her post to daughter's thread last night agreeing with Texan. My comment to Laurel wasn't sarcasm. It WAS meant to be a question to her to reconcile the two different posts. Her post on daughter's thread was one of those "neon jumping off the page thingies" for me, just as your post about not attacking any one faith was.

I haven't had a problem with you in the past, Ruby, and I don't anticipate having a problem with you in the future. But I can't and won't turn off that catalogue in my brain. It is part of me and who I am, both here and in RL.

I strongly agree with Ruby's sentiment. I believe many others have felt this way for some time regarding Cheyenne's police tactics.

Cheyenne, you have made blatantly false assumptions about myself and some threads I was invovled in; making accusations you later stepped away from, quietly. I was never able to take much offense because you were so far off base and my only response was to dismiss.

As far as your overall behaviour here at the board, I find it tedious and without merit. One dimensional. I rarely(and not at all recently) see you saying anything, merely reciting past posts or drawing broad connections over a landscape you seem to think you know. Your presumption is arrogant.
From what I can tell, your purpose and pleasure here is to cruise around looking for opportunites to shoot holes in posts/people. I dont see the value in such action. People are dynamic and you seem to want to deny that, to make a cardboard world to live in.
Its obvious you are not an unintelligent woman, so why refuse to offer your viewpoints? Regurgitating the views of others, over and over again, rings hollow. Perhaps you honestly have nothing to say, if this is the case I understand your choice to participate as our 'Policer of Posts." Just know that most of us with viewpoints to offer could give a damn about your tactics.

If you do have anything to say, anything that is your own...speak up. Otherwise we all have access to old threads so you can relax with the routine.

You've been here all of what, 3 months? You're still a newbie in my book. :D Pick a topic, do a search, and you'll likely find MY opinion posted on it somewhere here at Lit. Usually I'm accused of having too STRONG of opinions on various topics. One dimensional? :D My viewpoints are all over Lit. All you have to do is read.

I never made any accusations I stepped away from quietly, either. One thing I'm not, and that is quiet. If you are referring to your "fun" with Lavy on your joke threads, I stand by all of my original posts. No backing down. No modification. I still think you're trying to play children's games with the grownups. The little boy who cries "wolf" once too often. And I treat all of your posts accordingly. You never know when they might be "real" or a "joke." But as I always say, it is your right to portray yourself however you want on the board.

Congratulations, little rodent. You win the Sanctimonious Bullshit Post of the Day Award.

What a pantload.

Hmmm... almost sounds like a defense of me, except that "cold" comment. :D

You are probably the closest to the truth. Except it isn't "digging" as I tried to explain a little while ago to Ruby. It is memory. A talent for details. A gift.

And if you think I'm bad, you should meet my mom! That woman has dates strung together in her head like you wouldn't believe. She can list all the birth, baptism, confirmation, and death (if applicable) dates of dozens of friends and family members off the top of her head. I think her gift is similar to mine- she has kind of a weird timeline floating in her head with various patterns, etc. In her case, the patterns are what connect the dates and make her remember them. It is just that no one else sees the same patterns that she does. I can relate to that.

I agree. Cheyenne is a wonderful person. She may intimidate some of you with her knowledge...but she is a wonderful person. and I have found that her instincts on things are usually right on.

Cheyenne has an aggressive memory and the ability to carry on an argument over the course of time.

Most of the rest of us have a selective memory [hi deb] and are unable to carry on a coherent argument in one thread in one hour [hi p_p_ :D ].

I find what she does refreshing, honest, and keeps people on thier toes when they are inconsistent (sp?).

Plus she is a great researcher,

Dance, dance, dance in Smartie Pants...

PS

Besides, when Laurel decides to participate, she should be bashed like any other board member when she is inconsistent or on one of her ultra-left rants. If she were staying above things and neutral, that would be one thing, but she chooses sides and hence should enjoy the same protections the rest of us enjoy; those protections provided by your wits and mental toughness.

Chey the Sensor v. Chey the Censor....

Many moons ago, I became acquainted with Cheyenne's "gift. She has an incredible memory that is very sensitive to inconsistencies. She also seems to have a moral code that compels her to point out these inconsistencies. I accept her "gift" and find it personally quite useful. She has a low threshold for inconsistent statements,ie. she is sensitive to them. Ergo, she is a "sensor".

But, so what?? Maybe the inconsistency results from the fact that you changed your mind. Maybe, you're playing the role of the devil's advocate. Maybe you you have a bad memory. Or, maybe you just don't give a flying fuck. Whatever the reason, Cheyenne's comments are harmless unless you chose to take them to heart.

As for Cheyenne being a "censor", nothing could be further from the truth. No one here, except Laurel or Manu can censor anything that you choose to submit. And they do so rarely!! Chey has no authority to delete anything that anyone says. She may examine a submission for inconsistncies and point them out, but that's the most she can do. She has no more power to regulate waht is posted here than you or me.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Cheyenne has an incredible memory and is very forthcoming when she detects an inconsistency. In that sense, she may be very "in your face", but s are a whole bunch of other people that may disagree with you and me, for whatever reason.

So, if Cheyenne "catches" you, you choose how to react, not her. You control what you say here, not Cheyenne.
