Sure....It provides news, information, and cultural programming through the Internet, mobile and social media, radio, and television delivered in over 40 languages. It provides a voice of truth to countries who have autocratic governments which openly repress any viewpoint, opinion or news that they deem inappropriate, or counter to the governments own propaganda.

The end of VOA is a major victory for authoritarian regimes such as Russia and China. State-approved media will now be the only way the peasants in rural areas get their 'news' now.

AM radio was dying. Then a guy named Rush Limbaugh single-handedly saved the forum. It became an end around the mainstream echo chambers. It has been a springboard for conservative voices that have moved on now to teevee and podcasts, but it is still relevant in that context.

For the 2000's going into the 20teens I'd agree with you on that....but I think that was a temporary thing where the cultural/technological shift happened.

Based on consumption habits of Millennials and especially zoomers? They'll be getting their boosts from the likes of modern E-streamers/podcasters, not an AM radio show.

I think radio and TV as GenX/boomers or even as some elder millennials grew up understanding it?? Will largely die with the boomers and x'ers.

I had read something recently about Radicalized democrats trying to pull the plug on am radio, because they’ve never been able to match the success of conservative talk radio. Looking for that article I stumbled on This article about the death of am. Farmers and rural communities rely on am radio and there was a move to Save it, but the 118 congress left the AM in every car drop.

Our local AM station is mostly Hispanic music as of late. Something like 5-6 channels. One public service and one conservative talk radio. Honestly the most I can ever remember on the AM dial.

Yeah yeah, you hate Rush. Get in line. The line is long and distinguished as Slick Willie blamed him several times over his reign of terror.

You can disagree all you want but what you can’t disagree with is he single-handedly saved AM radio. Even PBS admitted as much either in this segment or maybe it was a quote off this Al Peterson quote.

Here’s the money shot:

I’m pretty sure this quote was from the Frontline segment but I found it in the second one. The context was an interview with Al about AM Radio.

That last bullet point is really the secret hiding in plain sight. Rush would say it all the time. His commentary was wrapped in entertainment. I will say though, his conservatism sure helped with his entertainment.
