Clan of the Wolf

I watched this stranger closely and knew that he didn't belong to our clan, there for he was a person to be watched closely. The man kept on walking closer, his club still in his hand when I raised one of mine and said, "Before you come any closer you have to drop the club right there because if you do not then there is no way that you can come into our cave."

I stood there and looked down at Shera, wondering what she was doing and moved to stand right beside her while continuing to watch the stranger. I then felt her hand tighten on mine and knew that it wasn't a good sign and right now I wished that I had a weapon.

"I only want food and shelter," Baer said. The club dropped to the ground. He wasn't stupid, he had a small knife in his clothing, but he wouldn't reveal that until he had too. There was something about this man that he didn't like. He wouldn't try to impose on anything though. He just wanted some rest before he moved on.
"The club is gone," he said, taking another step.

Shera couldn't help the feeling of fear around this guy. He seemed polite enough and sincere but there was something about him that just did not bode well with her. Glancing up at Lynx she wondered what he was thinking. She wanted to warn him but she didn't want to provoke the stranger into action. She would just have to keep an eye on him and hope for the best.

I watched this person closely and knew that it would be best not to turn my back on him. I looked at the stranger as he got ever closer and wondered if he had another weapon with him because I knew that he wouldn't have come out this far without something other than the club with him. I wanted to search him for another weapon but there was one other thing that was more important, Shera.

I looked down at her and knew that she could sense something about this stranger but I knew that I couldn't ask her as it would take my attention off this person and if he wanted to attack me then that would give him the perfect time.

Baer could see the confusion in their eyes. He thought they might not let him in. He had to get inside for some warmth. He would die out here.
"Please," Baer called out, pleading now, "I have been running for hours. Let me stay a little while."
At first he would have forced his way inside if they refused him, but more and more people were making their way to the entrance of the cave. He couldn't take them all, his only hope now was pity.
If not, he would surely die.

I looked at the stranger closely and knew that if he didn't find some shelter soon then he would surely die. I took a step towards him and said, "You can come into our cave, but only for a short time and if you do anything to any of the others in the cave then you will be killed. Do you understand me."

I then took a step closer to Shera and wondered if I should do anything to protect her. I knew that I shouldn't though because if I did then she might think that I was being over protective and hate me for it.

Shera gave Lynx a small smile. She appreciated his concern for her but she knew how to take care of herself. Her father had taught her that before he had died last winter. "Let us go inside then before we all catch a cold" she said and began walking towards the cave doing her best to ignore her intincts telling her to drive the stranging away before it was to late.

Baer nodded solemnly. He didn't feel well at all. He was cold through and through, and on top of all that, his nose began to itch. He followed the woman inside, all the while keeping his eye on the man. There was something not right about him. He wasn't the strongest of men, but he acted like it. That was a bad combination, it would kill him very soon.
Inside Baer could feel the warmth enter him. He almost smiled as he made his way to an empty hearth. The fire was warm, it helped him. The problem was, his nose began to itch more. He breathed in, and then.
"ACHOO."
He wiped the goo from his face, and fed the fire more. He glanced at the rest of the cave. They were all looking at him, suspiciously. He wanted nothing more than to yell at them, maybe kick one of the little ones, but he knew he couldn't. He was at their mercy, for the time being.

I watched as the stranger threw more wood onto the fire and then sat down infront of it to get warm. I still did not trust this person but I knew that it was not my place to say anything. Without a word I turned and walked towards my hearth, letting my thoughts cloud my mind as I walked in silence.

Shera gazed after Lynx her mind lost in thought about him and this new guy. Everything just all clouded. Her feelings were in a large mess and she had one horrible ach in her head. Looking toward the stranger she frowned as the instincts once again because warning her that he was no good.

Baer rummaged through his clothes. He had some food saved over, it wasn't much but it would tie him over. From the looks of things, he knew not to ask food of these people. They were starving themselves. They smelled of just coming back from the hunt, and it looked like they could already use another one.
Food was getting scarce, everything was getting scarce.
Baer ate the last bit, feeling it reach down into his belly. He then curled up beside his hearth, falling asleep.

I sat back and closed my eyes, trying to get any idea about the stranger out of my head. I needed some sleep right now and I knew that if I didn't stop thinking about the stranger then I wouldn't sleep at all. I then knew that there was no way I would get any and opened my eyes, sat forward and looked into the fire, letting it consume every thought.

Shera had drifted into a restless sleep filled with nightmares. She tossed and turned for a while but as they grew worse she begand to cry out. In her dream she was running from some unseen force and she knew she wouldn't be safe until she reached Lynx. She saw Lynx at the end of the tunnel and tried to reach him but he kept getting farther away. "Lynx" she murmered softly gripping the blankets as she ran faster and faster "Lynx....."

As soon as I heard my name I wondered who was calling it until I saw Shera moving around frantically underneath the blankets. I got up and walked over to her and wondered if I should disturb her sleep but then I saw that she was having a bad dream and knew that I had to wake her. I bent down and put my hand gently onto her shoulder and said, "Shera, I am right here. Shera, you can wake up now."

I wiped my mouth and made my way back into the cave, the sickness came in the middle of the night some times. Placing a hand over my flat stomach I glanced around at the sleeping forms. Noticing the stranger that had been invited inside by Lynx earlier in the day I softly walked over to him and stared down. Raising a eyebrow I noticed that his brow was covered in sweat, he must have a fever....

Anyone who was out in the cold as long as this man was would more then likely be sick. Sighing silently I went over to my hearth and started a fire. If I got started on making the tea now, it would be finished by morning. No point in returning to bed, my stomach let me know I'd be running outside often tonight. Some one's cries brought me out of my thoughts as I glanced around. I saw as Lynx hurried over to Shera's hearth and raised my eyebrows. "Hmmmm, looks as if a bond is forming, interesting."

Baer forcefully awoke from his sleep, coughing fiercely. He felt hot, water was coming off of his forehead. That only happened when it was too hot. He wasn't that close to the fire. Something must be wrong.
Laying back down, he felt the warmth of the fire come back to him. In here, he had no friends, all he could do was wait until morning and hope he felt better. He tried to rest, but all he could do was breath heavily and stare at the ceiling.

Shera sat strait up in a cold sweat. It took a moment for her mind to register what happened then she blindly threw herself at Lynx wrapping her arms around him tightly not thinking just wanting more then anything to feel safe.
