Clothing optional beach?

what is the big deal? put up signs and lets get it done! parts of florida though are so bible belt....will not be an easy fight

I grew up in SW Florida, and you would thing it was stuck in 1950 as far as its view of the world. There was Bunch Beach for those who were more progressively inclined. But It really was so strange to see people thinking Hooters was this den of iniquity.

Well you know Jen,While we feel that way there are unfortunately those among us who find something like skin offensive. Even more unfortunately they are sometimes the kind that have to push their views of morality or offensivity on others.I still want to see where in the bible it says that skin is immoral or sinful. I have read the bible on several occasions and haven't been able to find where it says this right out. (Just quotes that might be interpreted that way if you tilt your head to the side and squint just right.)Cat

Closest it comes in any bibilcal passage is in leviticus 18:6-19 where "uncovering the nakedness" of certain close relations is forbidden, which could be taken as a metaphor for sexual relations or temptations towards such. Priests couldn't go up stairs to the altar, so no one got a up-ephod shot. Other than that, the bible is pretty blase on nudity.

If I recall correctly that passage dealt mainly with incest. Could it be that this is the only part that has anything to say against nudity?

Three of the most common arguments I have heard against nudism and nude beaches are:

It leads to sex and/or sin.
It leads to rape.
It leads to pedophilia.

Somehow no matter how often I ask I never get to see where they get this information. Instead I am told I am being dense or there is no chance for me. (Which kind of reminds me of the old parents argument. "Because I said so."

If anything, sociology study prove the opposite. I'd have to dig up the studies again but I know at least three show that there are lower instnaces of adultery, pre-marital sex and teen pregnancy at nudist family centers than any other socio-economic group in america.

Hippie Hollow has lost a lot of its' spirit. There are a lot of giggling kids who go there just to stare at/make fun of naked people. It's actually very tame now.

How sad. It certainly was an interesting place a few years ago.

One time I saw this couple stagger up to the parking lot -- still naked, and so drunk they could barely get into their truck. They went driving off, just like that.

And of course there was a lot of sex going on along the cliffs.

Are we Europeans even allowed to weigh in on the issue? :D

I'm used to seeing boobs on beaches so it's never been an issue for me. I personally don't feel comfortable being completely naked in public, but I don't mind going topless. No tanlines is a good bonus too.

Sorry, but no. You grew up in a country that has nekkid statues in the parks and playgrounds and nekkid people in the saunas and some of the swimming pools. You even have nekkid people on signs and advertisements, right out where the wimmin and chillun can see them. You were obviously corrupted at an early age and lack the proper morals for an objective opinion. :D

But seriously, people here seem to be very comfortable with their bodies. It's very refreshing after the close mined people in Texas.

Some of what you miss still happens, but on smaller lakes nearby. Park ranger and state trooper patrols are fairly high in the area, so people tend to be overly cautious. These days, the 'wild and adventurous' crowd goes to places like the Players' Club where they pay a cover charge to get freaky.

Bunch beach is now protrolled by cops...Captiva has a semi nude beach, until the police show up. in many ways SW Florida has not left the 50's, well maybe the 60's.

Jumping subjects a little, many of the school districts down here are still facing discrimination issues from the 1960’s and the solution was to bus kids all over the place instead of bring each school up to a single standard. So this school choice program has some kids riding a school bus two hours each day. That is nuts!

Collier county school district has been the latest school district to provide hours of entertainment. The county had a closed door meeting, fired the superintend and brought in a guy from Rockford Ill. The big issue was that the school district broke the sunshine state law. What most did not know is that the superintend had purchased a home in Naples a year or two before he received the job. Then the second chapter was when the superintendent fired all the janitors and brought in an outside company. In the end, something like 4 million was wasted on all this drama (between paying off the old superintend, and the legal fees).

Awesome

One of my better moments in college was a 7 minutes speech on "the benefits of living as a nudist" back by research from the APA, AMA, and several universities. The kicker was I did the whole thing in just a towel :D

I hope it got you laid. :)

any book or chapter in the bible was written what, 30 years after the fact? and was written by men....I grew up Catholic and when my parents divorced my mom went back to being Lutheran., comes to find out my grandparents were Jewish...the only thing that I know about religion came from my theology classes in college.
