CNN Makes Statement On Chris Cuomo

I cannot believe they have the temerity to claim that they are Sgt. Schultz
and knew nothing, saw nothing and were just useful tools
of the Machiavellian Cuomo Cartel...

Like Jussie, they were VICTIMS damnit!

The question is. Will the new CEO at CNN clean house and get rid of these leftist back scratchers and return to being a legitimate news outlet?

CNN releases statement in response to revelations about Chris Cuomo from NY AG
Documents revealed that the younger Cuomo was "actively in touch" with Melissa DeRosa, who was still Andrew Cuomo's top aide at the time, and gave her statements to be used by his older brother, as well as leads on his various accusers.

CNN responded Monday night to allegations that host Chris Cuomo, the brother of disgraced former New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo, used his influence and media connections to help his brother out by finding information on his accusers.

The network released a statement which read, "The thousands of pages of additional transcripts and exhibits that were released today by the NY Attorney General deserves a thorough review and consideration. We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days."

Documents revealed that the younger Cuomo was "actively in touch" with Melissa DeRosa, who was still Andrew Cuomo's top aide at the time, and gave her statements to be used by his older brother, as well as leads on his various accusers.

According to CNBC, "Chris Cuomo told investigators that he engaged with what he described as "sources" regarding the various allegations against his brother that were described in at least one news article, according to the records. He also said he talked to his sources about yet-to-be-published stories from media outlets."

"I would – when asked, I would reach out to sources, other journalists, to see if they had heard of anybody else coming out," the junior Cuomo told investigators.

Fredo once again proves why he is Fredo!

Not you, now that you're wrong, That's for sure.

Lol. How am I wrong, I never made any claim other than so what?

He deserves suspension if he defied CNNs clear directive. But as usual, you’re wrong-see below.

If you don't understand the problem with using CNN business sources to influence and possibly tamper with a criminal investigation of your brother you should probably sit this one out.

You’re gonna have to back this claim up. But you can’t because you’re exaggerating for effect.

He was using his connections to get information on what new info might come out, some background on an individual and giving his opinion on how things should be done. That’s a far cry from your assertion.

Do you never tire of being wrong?

No it isn't. That (and you) is ridiculous and ideologically extreme and nonsensical.

Lol. Thanks for being one of their few viewers. Do you work at an airport terminal? Keep us updated with those CNN “reports.” 😂

No (R)etards whined or bitched about CNN until Obama. You all used to trust them as you do 45 and Alex Jones.

The issue with Cuomo isn't really legal; it's about whether it's a good idea for a journalist (a term that can be pretty elastic when you're talking about cable news) ought to be playing an undisclosed role in any sort of major news story.

I guess I don't see where he's considered so valuable to the CNN lineup that it would be a problem to just cut him loose.

Alex Jones, Matt Drudge, and Tucker are journalists. LOL. You fucking guys just can't stop being stupid.

I'm not wrong. You're naïve. He was using his contacts to dig up dirt on a witness, information he had no way of knowing was true or not that could be used to wrongfully smear a witness when made public. Like what so often happens in these cases.

The major change at CNN was in 1996, when they were acquired by Time-Warner. Prior to that, they were a mixture of "live" reporting, news magazine type shows, and a few "headline personalities". With the ownership change, they shifted to "personality driven shows" (which had been ratings winners for CNN before) which was the Fox News model and was seen as a rising threat to CNN in the space (Fox News was founded by Murdoch in 96 as well). Fox News was perceived as an immediate threat/competitor in the cable news marketplace.

The main problem CNN has in the space (and why they're losing the ratings war) is that Fox has an extensive network and invested billions is build the Fox Affiliates, which gives them deeper local market penetration and lets them have a smooth handoff between local news (via the affiliates) and network wide news. CNN never made the investments in this affiliate network and so lost out in the brand recognition space.

As for Chris Cuomo - his mistake was the classic one celebrities and politicians make all the time. Given thier positions, they're firmly buried in their bubble, surrounded by people whose livelihood depends on them and that bubble constantly tell them "you're a genius, you're right, you're the best". So, they do something stupid and no one close to them is reining them in, they essentially get swallowed and blinded by their own ego. Then, when something pierces the ego bubble, they double-down.

In Chris Cuomo's case, he should have simply recused himself from anything to do with his brother, and maybe even gone so far as to take a leave of absence to help him (which I would have done for my brothers) and been honest about it. Instead, he lied to his viewers about the level of support he was providing his brother and most likely lied about it to his bosses (CNN itself). Powerful people do this because they think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The real point of the thread--unintentionally so on the part of the OP--is that CNN quickly addressed the issue. Sort of bursts the OP's little bubble.

Neither Fox nor CNN are news outlets. They are News Entertainment and opinion channels

I'd agree there - primarily "opinions about the news" with the occasional news story sneaking through is the model used by the big cable outlets (Fox, CNN, MSNBC).

Chris Cuomo's strength (power) at CNN is that he has the highest ranking/audience draw on CNN, so he is, in effect, their "Golden Goose". So the question is "do you kill the golden goose or try and rehabilitate it's image, now that it's shit all over itself"? Plus, I'd be sure he has a heck of a contract, so it's also a question of "how many millions do you flush".

Dude should've stayed out of it and when he didn't, he should've resigned.

Something about that family makes them oblivious apparently

Having some of the lowest audience numbers in cable news, the new CEO might want to dump all of those phonies and get back to real journalism, where a lot more public interest resides.

They started changing their line-up earlier this year, so I am sure that is part of their master plan, but I'm equally sure that, given all the contracts it involves, it's going to be a slow process. Most of your celebrity newscasters have pretty ironclad "pay or play" contracts, so the inclination by management is to let them play out their contract and just not renew when it reaches the term. I think, in general, the whole business of news casting is ripe for reinvention, it's just going to take time for someone to find the new winning model. Unlike the networks, which only have to fill a few hours a day with news, the "all news, all day" model puts some serious pressure on them to develop "personalities" to stand out from the competition.
