Commenting on own work

This may be a dumb question, but I'm very new here. Can an author reply to comments on his own work? Does one do it simply by filling the comment box? Or is there some special way, when the submission under consideration is one's own? Grateful if experienced people reply.

Nope, you can just reply. Bear in mind, though, that it will take a while for your comments to appear. There's some unknown system, perhaps of having to post a specific number of comments without problem, before they get approved without moderation.

But there are plenty of writers here who reply to every single comment a reader leaves.

There are no threaded comments on stories, and no notifications of replies. So while you can comment, it's not the ideal place to try having a conversation or dialogue, although some readers do check back, so you occasionally see chains of responses.

Your replies get flagged as the author, but they still count on the comments tally (which always strikes me as weird).

Welcome to the Authors' Hangout by the way. I've enjoyed your humourous poetry postings so far.

Yes, you can.

Don't assume the reply you give will be read, though. If someone asks a direct question of me as the author, I'll respond, on the assumption that they might wander back; but otherwise, I won't reply.

You comment just like an other reader would - the site tags your comment with "Author".

You can @ them and you can copy-paste to quote them. But like someone noted, they’re not likely to read your reply.

Yeah, okay, thanks. A couple of members said nice things about my submissions and I wanted to thank them publicly. But my comments are not seeing the light of day - or at least for 2 days - still awaiting for them to be cleared. I feared I had not followed the right procedure, and they would disappear into cyberspace, lost forever. Thanks for the reassurance.

And if you have time, you could take a look at my writings too - all erotic poetry submissions, and each one can be read in2 minutes flat.

Validation from someone like you, whose writings I have been reading awhile - when I used to lurk all over Literotica without having signed up - and admiring greatly would mean a lot to me.

Yes, that is precisely the problem I'm having. I want to thank a couple of members who responded very encouragingly, but I have been waiting for two days. Taking time to clear stories or artwork is one thing, one respects the need to vet carefully. But author's comments responding to a reader? Strange!

Since, as a new author, I'm trying to get eyeballs for my own writings (it's an ocean out there and I am very much a small fish), I will be also be delighted if you could take a quick look (at your convenience) at my submissions, available at https://www.literotica.com/authors/verseandworse2/works/poetry, and give me your opinion

There's a clock running on comments, depending who you are. If you're a long time Lit author with, I assume, a good track record, your comments will publish immediately; other writers still report a delay. I can only assume Laurel keeps a set of books, and after a time you become trusted.

There does appear to be a comments glitch right now - I posted something yesterday, it showed as published immediately, but now it's not there. That's a temporary glitch, I think.

Also, thanks for your kind lurking words. Poetry is short, I still have coffee in a mug, I'll go take a look at your work.

Some scan better than others, but overall I like the wit. They're a bit like a Thomas Rowlandson cartoon, witty but not especially erotic. Although, a dark Indian girl with hair, that always spicy... reminds me of this story of mine: Sweet Treats

It's rare to get a second follow-up comment from a reader. Short attention-spans, perhaps. But I'll respond to most comments I get anyway. Maybe the Story Feedback forum is worth a try, although that seems to pass by quickly too.

If you really want some feedback then ask a question on AH (published stories are recommended; otherwise, only a snippet). Include the link. Something like, "Why did my vampire incest story only get a score of 3.89?" I once resubmitted a chapter based on suggestions here. I was fairly new here and I was surprised at how many people jumped into the thread.
