Congrats to Mr. Bush

All he needs to do is use his "psychic abilities". I mean geez GW "looked into his eyes and "knew" he was sincere!! Does this make anybody else kinda nervous???

lazer, there is more to this story. Bush's comment was related to a story from a few days ago. It turns out that the media got all over a comment Yeltzin made about GW. Yeltzin made a comment "warning" Putin that Bush would "look him right in the eyes when he talked to him". Bush's comment about looking Putin in the eyes was a, not so subtle, gig at either Yeltzin or the media that made such a big deal out of Yeltzin's comment.

I'm glad for our country that Bush did well. Whatever political party, we don't need that threat again. I guess Lavender is giving me an example to give credit when its due. I like that.

On the news yesterday it showed the Yeltsin interview and it seemed to me the man was actually complimenting America.

I can't remember it verbatim but he said something along the lines that he had spoken to, not "warned", Putin and had told him that he might find that Bush went straight to the point and could appear abrasive, and that he (Putin) should not be worried about it as that "was the American way of doing things".

I know that Bush has this reputation for being caustic (again according to our press) but Yeltsin sounded as though he was just explaining part of the man's character to Putin.

That's fair enough...

no argument

from me.....p_p_man.....

I don't know if Bush's comment about "looking him in the eyes" was directed toward Yeltzin or the press. The press in this country played up the comment by Yeltzin as a warning. However, there were also comments by the press that Yeltzin was really trying to show Putin up, by reminding everyone that he (Yeltzin) was more experienced and had already met Bush.

I only responded because lazer used the comment by Bush as some sort of insinuation that Bush was naive or a hick. In truth, it was a very politically astute method of letting the press know he was very aware of what they were saying.

It also points out that, when it comes to political awareness, "people in stone houses, shouldn't throw glasses".
