Conservatives are ALWAYS WRONG -- haven't you noticed?!

Just an observation, but one thing I notice about political discourse is that when people resort to insults, it's a guaranteed way of never having the opposing person see your point of view. I mean, you're never going to sway anyone's vote nor affiliation with insults. Maybe it's just about the drama for dramatic people, but I feel it would be more logical to just keep opinions at the ballot box and make your proactive steps, positive ones. Negative + Negative won't = Positive.

That said, I'll be voting for the first time next election, and nothing I've read in any of these political discussions even make me want to vote for anyone. It's just disgusting and toxic. I plan to not take sides, just hear the candidates, think for myself and cast a vote and then go to work. I suspect the toxicity will just continuously move with times, making past arguments and opinions completely forgotten and worthless. What a vicious cycle, I can't see how people find happiness in that.

I'll reply to insults with insults, but I'd always prefer to debate issues on their merits.

🙄

Bullshit.

If you would even consider voting for a republican candidate, then you’re already a MAGAt; full stop.

👎

We. Told. Them. So.

Some people find happiness in physically fighting, some in arguing (which does less damage to the body). You just can't beat political wrangling for intellectual stimulation.

For instance, can't anybody cite an issue on which conservatives were right, and defend that position?

**crickets**

That is, they were wrong on every issue on which there were identifiable conservative and liberal sides.

We can easily say conservatives were wrong on slavery and Jim Crow and women's suffrage and the New Deal and the Vietnam War.

As well on all culture-war issues such as women's lib, gay rights, the sexual revolution, school prayer, creationism.

But it's harder to say which side of, e.g., the Free Silver issue was "conservative." (Much easier to say the Free Silverites were wrong.)

when are conservatives right
One could sometimes make a reasonable case for their economic policies . . .

Sometimes, but not any more. Supply-side has been the default policy of the industrialized nations since 1980, and we have seen clearly that it never accomplishes anything but its real intended purpose, which is to make the rich richer. Supply-side is more thoroughly discredited than Stalinism.

Social/religious conservatives are NEVER right because their whole world-view is based on false premises.

Now the conservatives are wrong about immigration -- wrong, in that they think it is a problem.

Of course they would not object to it if the would-be immigrants were white.

Complex historical question. I guess the earliest American conservatives were the Tory Loyalists.

because i wonder if the orgins of conservatives started in france and england during the bridgerton era or was it even before that during the house of the dragons era

and if the orgins went to usa during the 1600s and have been in usa since then

House of the Dragons? That would be the House of Wessex -- before the Norman Conquest.

The sexual revolution has led to significant increases in illegitimacy and divorce. Children raised to adulthood by both biological parents living together in matrimony tend to have many fewer problems in life.

At this point in time, if you still want to be able to vote, vote Democratic. The other is to get involved. We are in danger of loosing democracy because many have takein it for granted. No Kings day is coming up. Get out and get involved. Our country and our children and our children's children and he planet need you.

I'm sure that on balance we're better off for the sexual revolution.

AI Overview

Divorce often acts as a significant stressor on children, increasing risks for emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges, including anxiety, depression, lower grades, and difficulty with social adjustment. While many children are resilient, they may experience short-term instability or long-term effects like lower self-esteem, fear of abandonment, and relationship difficulties in adulthood.

-------------

Children born to unmarried parents ("illegitimate") historically and statistically face increased risks of behavioral, emotional, and social challenges compared to those in intact, married families. Effects often include lower self-esteem, higher rates of peer conflict, and academic difficulties. Legal and social stigmas have traditionally contributed to these disadvantages, although modern, non-marital environments vary.
Key Effects on Children
  • Behavioral & Emotional Issues: Research indicates higher rates of antisocial behavior, such as disobedience, lying, bullying, and destruction of property. Hyperactive behavior, difficulty concentrating, and high stress levels are also more common.

This is the Lit. You ain't gonna find anybody here who pines for the pre-sexual-revolution mores, when a girl felt obliged to save her virginity for marriage, and marriage was the single most important thing she had to do with her life.

Women are less likely than men to enjoy casual sex and sexual variety. The sexual revolution has made marriage less likely and less stable. I have already pointed out that children do not benefit from this.

Morality is not determined by vote, but by results. The results of the sexual revolution indicate that there is often wisdom in tradition.

In a Playboy interview Paul Newman explained the ethos of the 1950's, when he was in college, "Nice girls did not sleep around. Nice guys did not ask them to. Those were the rules."

The Playboy interviewer asked Newman, "When did you get away from all that?"

Newman answered, "It is not on the record that I ever did."

It was not only the United States. The sexual revolution happened in all the industrialized countries. And they are not all dealing with undesirable consequences.
