Conspiracy LoveThe

His words filtered through her brain and finally she grasped all their meaning. Dr. Grey was actually dead, there was no maybe she was safe...she was dead. Her only motherlike figure was gone. People wanted to kill her because of what Dr. Grey trusted her with. She continued to stare at Clay, could see his lips moving but not really hearing at this point.

Her brain worked furiously as she thought of who could be turning on them...noone came to mind...noone she could think of...her heart hammered as she recalled a meeting 2 days before all this happened. She blinked and stood up,she moved to the window and looked out. Her hand shaking as she pulled back the curtains, the mounts were her only images.

"Dr. Grey, she had a meeting two days before all this happened. It was with a man who wore all black. I dont remember his name,he made me leave when the meeting started."She said softly, her breath steaming against the window." He wore glasses and had a scar along the side of his face, his assistant reminded me of a turtle. Bald, scrawny and seemed scared all the time." She said with a small laugh that was almost a cry.

She turned and looked at Clay, for the first time she actually felt vulnerable. She wrapped her arms around herself and lowered her eyes. A tear finally slid down her cheek. "She's really dead then....I was hoping...maybe..."She struggled to find the words but a soft sob escaped from her lips.

She moved past Clay and out of the room quickly, needing to get away. She had to get away. So much death around her...she ran blindly. Pushing open the front door and staggering out into the beginning snowstorm. She ran blindly, her tears cooling on her cheeks as she ran for the trees. Wanting to hide, forget everything she carried in her mind. It didnt matter if they got the chip...they couldnt access it all without the code she had been taught to memorise. They would only get the basic plans, not the real formulas.

Clay now felt horrible.

He had assumed that Taylor already knew that Dr. Grey had been murdered.

She was visibly shaken by the news.

When she spoke of the meeting that Dr. Grey had gone to prior to the whole thing going down, Clay began thinking of anyone matching that description that worked for his company. The description did match anyone that Clay knew. But that did not mean they were not employees of the company, only that Clay had never encountered them. RECCOS Security Worldwide was a private company that hired over 700 employees and close to 300 independent contractors.
Whoever was giving the corporation information about their whereabouts had to be very close to the mission. It had to be someone at the Tactical Operations Center.

Clay felt like he would know the traitor.

There would be time enough later on to find the traitor and deal with that person. But it still made Clay sick to his stomach to think that someone he considered a friend was giving information to the corporation that very well could get both Clay and Taylor killed.

Taylor ran from the cabin and out into the night.

“Fuck” Clay thought as he followed her out into the beginnings of a serious snow storm.

Fat flakes of snow were falling silently in the dark.

“Taylor…come on, let’s go back inside.” Clay said when he found her in a stand of pine trees.

He stepped quietly towards her.

For someone not used to the violence…not used to having friends killed, this was terrifying. Clay understood that and knew that right now, this beautiful young woman was vulnerable.

He moved up slowly behind her. He wrapped his arms around her in a hug.

It was really cold outside and white vapor came from their mouths as they exhaled.
Holding her gently, he moved his mouth close to her left ear.
“Taylor, let’s go inside. It’s really cold.”

Clay started to move her toward the cabin.

Once inside, he sat them down on the bear skin rug in front of the roaring fire in the hearth.

He hugged her as she wept silently.

“It’s ok. I know it’s tough to lose someone who is close to you.” Clay whispered

Clay used his fingers to tilt her head up so he could look into her eyes.

“You have to let her go. You have to live. The greatest obligation you have in life is to live.”

Looking at her, he knew he was going to fail. Clay knew at that moment, that he was going to violate the prime directive of the personal security detail. You never fall for the client. But it was too late. The human feelings were too much.

He moved closer to her and kissed her sweet lips.
