Tosha rushed out of the classroom clutching her books and trying to nonchalantly wipe a tear from her eye. Students around her were talking to one another, but she avoided making eye contact with anyone and wanted nothing more than to get to a secluded location. Things seemed to be going from bad to worse, and she needed a moment to be by herself and have a good cry.

Barely 18, Tosha was in her first semester at a college far away from home. Since home was a small town in Kansas and college was a huge university in Georgia, there was a lot to get used to. She'd gone from knowing everyone around her to knowing nobody. She'd gone from living among friendly, open people to being surrounded by people who ignored her. Add to that the fact that she was missing her family horribly, and she was very stressed out.

Then, add the fact that she had yet to find even a part time job. The fact that she had yet to find anyone she'd consider a friend. The fact that, just a few minutes ago, she'd gotten back her first math test with a big red "D" at the top of it. Tosha decided she was done going to classes for the rest of the day and was going to spend some time feeling sorry for herself.

She was oblivious to the stares she was getting as she walked along, still wearing her skimpy cheerleading outfit ever since practice this morning. At home, she'd known the same group of guys her whole life, and they'd never commented as she became more and more attractive. She was oblivious to the fact that most guys would consider her "out of their league." Her tight top showed off her defined midriff and her olive complexion. Her long legs were just as defined--a lifetime of dancing and cheerleading has its perks--and the tiny cheerleading shorts she wore did little to hide them. But, the impression she was leaving on male students went entirely unnoticed as she dwelled on thoughts about how difficult her life had become.

Finally, she reached the spot she'd been heading for: a small courtyard blocked off from most of the campus walkways by trees surrounding it. A small fountain was in the center of the courtyard, and fortunately, no students had decided to nap in the area. Alone in the courtyard, she sat down, dropped her bag on the floor beside her and began bawling her eyes out, head in her palms.

She didn't realize that one of her teachers happened to be entering the courtyard just seconds after her tears started flowing.

The only sounds Professor Will Adams could hear in the courtyard were the soft, almost musical trill of water gurgling in the fountain and the faint cries of the lonely girl. Even before he saw her, he knew that the crying was female; men and women, after all, sounded very different when they cried. Will approached her quietly, walking across the sun-dappled courtyard where the overhanging trees were weeping tears of their own, dripping pearls of water from the rainstorm last night.

Even in her disheveled state, it was clear that this girl was very attractive. Smooth lines, beautiful hair, and a body that could arouse even the most worldly of men. Will gazed around the courtyard and saw that it was completely empty save for the two of them. Surprising, for this time of day, but also preferable: when he first made an impression on young female students, he liked to be alone.

Professor Adams was a much-respected, highly revered, and tenured faculty member of the English Department at Taft University. At 43, he was not only brilliant in the field of British Literature but was also impossibly handsome, with chiseled features and a runner’s body and jade green eyes that had cut through many a coed. His black hair was turning to gray, but even that helped make him look more distinguished. He wore tweed today and every day not because he liked it (he didn’t) nor because it was comfortable (it wasn’t) but instead because college girls seemed to think it made him look more scholarly, and therefore more desirable.

As loved as he was by students and faculty alike, Will Adams had a secret: he enjoyed using his looks and respectability as a way to corrupt innocent young college girls. Every semester he found at least one girl who looked shy, vulnerable, desperate, or sad (and preferably all of the above) and asserted his own dominance to turn them into…well, many things, but the key fact was that they all became his. His toys. His playthings.

His whores.

The girl still hadn’t heard him approach, so when he was close enough he sat down and said, “Excuse me…are you all right?”

“Excuse me…are you all right?”

She heard the voice from right beside her, and couldn't believe she hadn't heard the man approaching. Sitting up, she wiped away the tears and brushed her hair back, as if that might convince him that she hadn't just been bawling her eyes out. She looked over at an older man who clearly was a teacher--he was wearing one of those tweed jackets that teachers always seem to wear. He was quite handsome, despite the gray that was creeping into his hair. He looked kind, but she looked at the fountain, avoiding his eyes as she tried to decide whether to talk or keep it all bottled up inside her.

Her parents would tell her she needed to talk to somebody.....maybe this teacher coming here, now, was just what she needed. So, without asking his name, without trying to get herself more under control, her eyes began to fill up with tears again as she spilled out everything that had been happening.

"I can't find a job, and I moved away from home and I don't know anybody out here, and it's been really hard. My teachers are unfriendly, and half the girls on the cheerleading team are bitches.....I . . . .I just don't know what to do.

"I mean, I can't afford the apartment I'm in for much longer unless I start making some money, but nobody's hiring because so many other students are looking, too. And now, on top of it all, I got a "D" on my first math test, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm gonna even pass these BASIC classes I'm in."

Finally, she looked over at him. Her eyes met his for the first time, her mascara a mess, running down from her eyes. She was leaning back slightly, her chest heaving from her heavy crying, and she felt almost regretful now. Now that she'd spat out all of her concerns, she was wondering why she decided to tell this random stranger, and what he would think of her now. But, she refused to worry, instead meeting his gaze and waiting for him to speak. Maybe he could help her after all.

A girl far away from home and family, having trouble with her classes, not making friends, not getting along with people in her extracurricular activities…oh yes, this girl was perfect. Any one of these things would have lit up a light bulb in Will’s mind, but the combination now rang up like cherries all dinging on a slot machine. These things screamed “helpless” and “vulnerable.” The word cheerleader didn’t hurt either. God, this was too good to be true.

Will scooted a little closer to the girl and said soothingly, “If it makes you feel any better – and I realize it probably doesn’t – this happens to almost everyone on their first few weeks in college. It’s the most awful feeling in the world. Lonely, far away from your family and friends, feeling like you’re not good enough. But I promise you, it really does get better. If it didn’t, no one would ever stay in college.”

He put one arm gently around her shoulder, and he immediately felt a slight thrill of arousal. That supple teen flesh felt so good in his hand, and he wanted more of it. He wanted to touch it and caress it and squeeze it…oh, the things he wanted to do this girl. He outstretched his other hand for her to shake. “I’m Will Adams. I teach English here, and I think I may have an answer to some of your problems.”

Feeling as the teacher's arm went around her shoulder, thought about moving away--after all, she'd just met him--but she could hear in his voice that he was truly concerned. So, she decided to let his hand stay on her shoulder...after all, it was the nicest gesture anyone had made toward her since she'd arrived.

He extended his hand, saying, "I'm Will Adams. I teach English here, and I think I may have the answer to some of your problems." She felt her heart skip a beat, the idea that he could actually help her to get off of the ground and start achieving her dreams, help her to finally become her own, independent person....well, it was a huge relief. Right then, she decided this was her favorite teacher.

"You think so?" she said, brushing her hair back, feeling his hand as it gently rested on her shoulder. He was so kind, and he was going to help her! "Thank you so much! I'd be glad to take any help. How can you help me?"
