Curse of Strahd dnd campaign

/me sends a stray thoguht over to ireena *any notion what strahd wants this girl for? wanted rather?* she nods to the girl "well. uh.i guess you're uh. well you know. hmmm" not really sure at all what to do with her

*awkward*

*you aint lyin, asshat*

Ireena thinks for a moment, *Honestly? I have no idea, maybe he wanted to turn her into a vampire. Or maybe to use her for some fun when she was a few years older.. Hard to tell with him really. Guess we will never really know.*she looks over at Quinn with a raised eyebrow. "That was an interesting sentence you came up with there.." She turns to face the girl. "You know, your mother is worried about you.. With Strahd gone you should at least go see her, there definitely isn't any reason for her to keep you locked away anymore. It's much safer now." The girl looks sad for a moment before responding. "Its still safe here. Going back, who knows if she would actually let me be free. She might try keeping me in that house again and that's not what I want. Why risk it?"

Quinn shrugs, having run away from home herself at the age of 12 she's short on filial piety. "if she doesn't want to go home she doesn't want to go home" she looks at the girl "you can stay here i guess, but free meals are over with the death of the castle's master so .... you might not want to" a lot of kids who left for the streets crawled back when their bellies got tight "so you know, think about how you'll live i guess and if you want to go back to mom great and if you don't well. also great"

*you're brimming with the milk of human kindness Quinn*

*not human. ha*

Ireena looks over at Quinn. "With all the money Marius has to fix this damn place you don't think he's going to spare some food to keep one more belly fed in this castle? I mean.. Maybe he'll make her work for it, but I don't think he would let her go hungry here. Of course she could go home, but if she didn't want to.. It'd probably be better for her here than trying to travel elsewhere on her own. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. We want this place to change for the better, I don't want people thinking they can't stay I'd they want to."

Quinn puts her hands up "look i didnt want to bind marius to anything. if he wants to keep feeding her that's fine. I just didn't want to volunteer him to house wayward girls or whatever is happening here"

*honestly, this is weird darling, and I don't trust it but... you would know her better*

The girl looks out through the secret door. "Honestly, not many people are here. Strahd didn't have many servants or prisoners. So it's not like there are many mouths here to feed. Just that old accountant, some maids, a few guards, and the only prisoner I know is Emil. Maybe there are more I've never met though, who knows?" Ireena looks around the room for a moment. *I don't really know her, I know of her because everyone in town knew her because Mary had been looking for her for a while.*

Quinn nods "well why don't you stay here, and maybe write to your mother and see if you can't mend fences, while not being physically around her so you don't have to worry about being locked up?" that seemed a reasonable compromise "you can help clean the place."

The girl nods slowly, "Yes, I suppose that would work. I doubt even with Strahd gone she would try coming here to take me if I didn't want to go. I wouldn't mind working and helping out a bit if it meant getting food and a place to stay. Fine, I agree to all of this. Seems reasonable enough to me." Ireena looks around the room again, "Do we want to deal with the prisoner next, or the maids, or the guard?"

Quinn hmmms "probably the guard, which would then make it easier to deal with the prisoner. maybe we can set marius on the maids since he's going to be in charge of the castle funds. im guessing there's also lands that will generate some income marius can use. I dont want to give all the gold away though hiring back all strahd's people."

Ireena nods, "I wonder if the guard is even here still since he's gone. But I guess there's no harm in looking, unless they attack us.. Want to try the guard quarters or outside first? I didn't see anyone outside when we came in. But we didn't really look around the upper parts of the castle.." She starts walking slowly around the room before looking back at the secret door. "Up to you, oh Mighty Quinn."

QUinn laughs "yeah im so mighty i almost attacked a weird trapped girl" she shakes her head "lets check the guard post, if they are still there we can refer them to marius"

Ireena nods and heads out to join the others. You all head to the guard post where there are still guards posted watching over the castle. They all give you an odd look as you approach. One of the guards in heavy plate armor steps forward. "Word is you all defeated Lord Strahd, but then disappeared for the night. Is this true? We haven't seen him for a while and if it is, I assume one of you will be trying to rule this land in his stead?"

Quinn shifts a bit "we did defeat Lord Strahd. I don't think any of us are the conquering types though. Marius is going to try to cooperate with the local leaders to set something up. he's going to use the resources of the castle towards that end, and its entirely possible he will keep you on if you want to work for him. As for who rules Barovia, that's going to be up in the air for a bit I imagine. maybe some kind of republic."

He shifts his gaze between each of you and shrugs. "Well, for a land that's never had a republic I'd day good luck with that. Sure some will be on board with that but I doubt enough will agree with it. That will be a long, uphill battle, so he better be ready for it. He probably will need guards, especially now that this land is open to the rest of the world. Now he's going to have to worry about other countries invading, not something we've had to worry about for centuries. Say what you want about Strahd, but we never had to worry about war before.."

Quinn nods "it's a concern" Frankly, if Marius ended up being count Marius, well so much the better. "if you go in and speak with Marius, i'm sure he can discuss your future with him" she looks to the others "lets go find that prisoner the girl spoke of, and see if that little bastard from Vallaki is anywhere."

He nods, "Good luck with those two.. Both of them are.. Off." He leads the other guards into the castle to search for Marius. The rest of you head in after them before heading to the dungeons. It takes about twenty minutes before you finally find a cell with a man inside. A strong young man grips the bars of the cell while struggling to keep his teeth from chattering. His clothes are shredded and he's soaked from head to toe. As you approach he speaks quietly. "Hello? Who's there?"

Quinn grins "the mighty Quinn, Liberator of Barovia. You're welcome" she comes over to the cell doors "so what did you do to be thrown in here then?" she's wary, as strahd's prisoners must be powerful or useful or he'd have dispatched them without internment "we're here to see about letting you out"

He raises an eyebrow at Quinn's introduction. "Liberator of Barovia? Interesting.. Well, I got locked in here simply for fleeing from Valaki and a pack of dire wolves.. He thinks i started some nonsense fighting amongst the werewolves. I didn't, that would be silly, but that's what he put me down here for. For three years now..By all means, if you could let me out, it'd be appreciated. Name's Emil by the way." Getting up to the cell Quinn can see the tall, dark skinned man in rough shape. His bald head shines dimly against the light from a torch nearby.

quinn leans against the nearby wall "now, what would put that in his head, i wonder?" she shifts a little "i mean, surely he felt you could rectify the situation. perhaps we should take you to the wolves and see if we can't make some peace in that group eh?" testing to see his reaction, trying to ascertain whether or not he's got more involvement with the wolf situation than perhaps he is letting on.

He laughs quietly. "By all means, I'm heading back there anyway. My wife lives with them, I don't know who or what put that in his head, but I assure you it was false information. As far as I know there was nor quarreling amongst the group. Let me go back myself, go with me, I leave that up to you. I'd just like to get out of this cold ass cell and someplace warm and then be on my way." He seems to genuinely want to go back home, even if it's being escorted out of here by a group of people he doesn't know.

Quinn nods and fetches the keys "so we were told there's another prisoner" she starts unlocking the cell "anything you know about them might be helpful..." she trails off, encouraging him to speak.

He sighs heavily and shakes his head. "There were a few prisoners, a dwarf, and an elf I believe. But those two died long ago, they tried to fight Strahd and lost. So their treatment here wasn't very good, far worse than mine. But the wizard died recently, he did survive longer than I thought he would. He was tortured quite often, poor soul. No, all that remains down here now was me and the spawn that would often stroll the halls. Though I haven't seen them lately."

Quinn hmmms "you didn't see a boy did you? recently? in the past few weeks?" she shifts a bit and brushes her hair back from her face "We're looking for a little shit that might or might not have been grabbed by strahd" she looks to the others "we should consider the possibility something else got him, and maybe also look back in vallaki" she turns back to emil "well, you can travel with us a bit if you like. we can get you home. we have a few stops"

"A boy? No I haven't seen or head a young one down here the entire time I've been locked away. Perhaps he is somewhere else in the castle, not all of Strahd's prisoners stayed down here. If they aren't long stops I shall join you, but my priority is getting back to my wife. So I will do that as quickly as possible." He takes a step out of the cell, and stretches. Ireena looks over at Quinn, "If that boy opened a portal, maybe Strahd grabbed him to train, not to take prisoner. He could be up in one of the rooms, but then again maybe he went back to Vallaki."

QUinn nods to Ireena "good thought" she turns to Emil "we have just one stop to make, then we can head in your direction. Please go upstairs and get something to eat" she turns to the others "lets search around for the little miscreant and put that to rest."
