Curse of Strahd dnd campaign

Quinn shrugs "unless there was an earthquake or vallaki burned down in a post-strahd liberation riot... its still there" she smiles and wraps her arms around him, kissing his cheek "its not your job to notice everything. its your job to be pretty."

Lucan laughs and kisses Quinn's nose. He wraps his arms around her and holds her close for a moment. "Oh, that's my job huh? I better take better care of protecting my face then." He shakes his head before running his fingers through Quinn's hair. "Now get that sexy ass moving, we have a spawn to kill and a city to free from a Baron." He heads out of the cottage, smacking Quinn's ass as he leaves." He jumps up front on the carriage with Erlen.

Quinn curls up with Ireena in the back of the carriage and wraps her arms around her. she rests her head on Ireena's shoulder and snuggles in "so, one last night at home huh? gonna fuck me in the bed you grew up in your naughty slut?"

Ireena wraps her arm around Quinn and pulls her close as the carriage sets off. She bites her lip and nods her head. "I may have thought about it a few dozen times.. It'll be late by the time we get there so it'd be silly to leave town and risk getting attacked by wolves. That's a good excuse not to leave right? Wolves can be scary.." She closes her eyes and smiles. The carriage travels slowly toward the village of Barovia through the heavy woods and mountainsides.

Quinn watches the countryisde as the carriage rolls by, feeling the plants already revelling in the new sun. everything feels much fresher and lighter than when they've passed through before. she sighs and just relaxes, wondering what it will be like to take some time off, or even if she's capable of it. for 10 years since she ran away from home, every day has been a hustle. she's not sure she's ready for it not being that way.

Ireena runs her hand lightly over Quinn as the scenery passes by. The woods start to thin out and the sun starts to set as the carriage approaches the village of Barovia. Ireena pats Quinn's lap as she gets out of the carriage. "Let's go make sure the village is rid of this famn spawn. Then we can get a drink and relax for the night." She steps outside and looks around the village. The entire village is out and walking around, shopping, and look to be having a good time. Entirely different from the last time everyone was here. No more fog along the streets, no dark shadows in the buildings, and no more crying coming from the small houses. The Inn seems to be much busier than it was before, and then church can be seen off in the distance. The church seems to be getting some repairs done to it as the sun sets to the west.

Quinn scans the streets "well. nicer than last time we were here for sure" she laughs and inhales, then exhales, wondering if any of these people even know who liberated them and thinking probably not. Honestly maybe it was better that way, at least while they dealt with this last issue "lets beeline for the church while there's still some sun" even if Lucan could make his own.

Lucan nods and starts to head for the church. Emil, Erlen, and Ireena follow closely behind at a quick pace as the sun sets. Father Donavich stands outside and gives a puzzled look as the group approaches. "Ah, you all came back. We thought you would leave as soon as the land was rid of Strahd. Well done, the village does have a reward for you. Not that anyone officially knows it was you of course. They've seen so many travelers come through they probably didn't pay much attention when you passed through. If you mention it to the innkeeper I'm sure he'll give you free drinks and s place to stay if you needed it.." He stops speaking and sighs. "I assume you have come back for a reason.. I can't willingly let you go in after my son. He's still a spawn, but he hasn't hurt anyone."

Quinn softens her expression and makes an educated guess "but now that the master is dead he won't be a spawn much longer. he will grow and he will eventually be a problem that even you cannot contain. have you communed with the morninglord? what has he had to say about this?" she steps in a moment, not threatening, reaching for his arm "and ask yourself... in your place would you want to suffer as he suffers? would you turn your back on the light of the sun? would you burn with an unquenchable thirst for the blood of innocents?" she bites her lip "or would you wish the peace of death, the chance to be united with your god in his halls eternally? right now your son is a victim. he can go to his god with a clear soul. soon, he will cross the line into monster. don't you think its best that he be allowed to return to the morning lord? that his soul be free? are you doing this for him or for you?"

He is quiet for a few moments, just listening as Quinn speaks. He sighs and looks back at the church. "I would still hope for a way of being saved. And I would hope that someone could find a way before things went wrong and I hurt someone. But if Strahd is gone and he's still like this, maybe there is no hope of him ever turning back. I thought with Strahd gone maybe he'd turn back to normal, or his blood lost would be gone. But he still wants blood. He wants to leave Barovia now. He has been talking more now, but he still hungers for blood. You can't blame a man for wanting a better life for his son, or at least giving him another chance before giving up hope.."

Quinn nods "i don't blame you at all. I wish my mother had had half the strength you have. Half the faith I could be something." she sighs and rests her hand on his "HE's lucky to have you. He's lucky to have someone who believes that the world is full of possibilities for him. Someone who cares to keep him safe from a world that wants to destroy him" she squeezes "but you can't. because you can't keep the world safe from him now."

He nods his head slowly and looks at the ground. "Parents should always have faith in their children. However, look at what you've accomplished. It's very rare to find an adventurer with a perfect life before they started traveling. If your mother had shown you the love and attention you deserve, this land might not be free right now. I'm sorry she wasn't a perfect mother, but part of me is grateful. Grateful because this land has now been saved from a curse that's lasted over eight hundred years. I suppose if my son must die, it's better to be by the hands of capable people. Maybe he won't suffer long.." He reaches over with his other hand and pats Quinn's before taking a step back. "Do what you must. I was prepared to keep protecting him, but we both know I'm not capable of stopping you all."

Quinn blinks away tears and looks over at the wall a moment. "thank you for not making us go through you. I.... I'm sorry. I wish.... I wish things were different" she swallows and reaches up to brush her hair out of her face "i... i promise youll not see us again." she inhales and exhales then wipes her face "I promise it will be as merciful as we..." she stops and hmms "maybe..." then heads over to lucan and worries her lip, looking up at him "what... what if we used the wish?"

Lucan looks surprised and thinks for a moment before speaking. "He's been like that for a while.. The wish spell could work, or it could go horribly wrong. I'd like to be optimistic and save his son, I really would. It's your spell, so you can choose what you want to use it for. I could ask Hades how this might go, and maybe give us a better idea of what may happen. As powerful as wish is, some things can't be undone. Or what we want undone isn't worded correctly and the spell does something completely different." Ireena is turned away, holding back tears as Quinn speaks to Father Donavich. She shrugs as Quinn asks about using the spell. "I have no idea, I've never seen or heard the spell used before." Erlen and Emil both shrug, Erlen speaks up. "I'm not one for spellcasting, so I can't say. But if the spell could go wrong, or not work.. It might not be worth it. As much as I want his son to return to a normal life."

Quinn looks over her shoulder at the priest "i want to feel like some families arent awful" she sighs and looks at Lucan "commune with Hades. if he says its a bad idea or fraught with peril or something... we won't. but if we can i...I dunno. I want to"

Lucan nods and walks a few feet away before kneeling down. He speaks quietly as he casts commune. A minute later he stands up slowly and turns toward Quinn. "It can work, I think as long as it's worded properly there shouldn't be any issues. I know it seems pretty straight forward but wish really can be tricky when it comes to wording. It's a good use of the spell, so if you want to use it now, it's up to you. It is your spell after all, but I know you were thinking of using it to reverse any harmful effects from your gift." Father Donavich looks shocked as he stares at Quinn. "You.. Would use such a mighty spell to bring make my son normal again? To use it on someone you don't even know.. You've already saved this land, we owe you more than we could ever repay. If you do this I'll be forever grateful and will be in your debt forever Mighty Quinn.."

Quinn looks over at the priest "you...served as the guardian of these people for so long. how... how could we let your faith and your good works go unrewarded? what sort of land would we be returning to people if we didn't recognize the sacrifices and the good you've done and others like you have done? if we just left you with the aftermath of horror. It is a mighty spell, and there's always going to be a question of whether we should have saved it but... that's always going to be the case when we use it. I don't want to be sitting on it in 2 centuries, waiting for the right time. you and your son deserve a shot at happiness. you're a good father. and its just Quinn, father. the mighty thing started as a joke and its sort of snowballed out of control"

She turns to Lucan "ok, so... how do we do this? i mean i know i could be fucking myself here but...that kid is definitely suffering and I might not. there might be other ways to deal with whatever's going on with me and that's assuming anything IS going on with me"

Lucan thinks for a moment and shrugs. "Honestly I'm not really sure, I've never used the spell before. I think you just cast it and speak the words of what your wish is. You probably don't have to be anywhere near him. So you could cast it and we will know if it worked before we even get to him at least. But you're right, there might not be anything wrong with you. We can get it checked out when we get to Absalom."

Father Donavich hugs Quinn tightly for a moment before stepping back. "You have no idea what you even trying this means to me.. Or will mean to my son if it does work. All I've done is what I believe in and was raised to do. I didn't think I ever needed to be rewarded for it. This land needed some sort of hope, even if it wasn't always effective. You are the ones that truly gave hope to this land." He smiles and shakes his head. "I know the mighty thing may have started as a joke, but I'm sure you'll be hearing it while you're in this land at least. Maybe not once you're gone, but for now at least you'll hear it. I hope word spreads and your tale is told throughout the realm. You've done more than we could ever have hoped for. And I doubt you're done yet. We appreciate it all. When you get back to the manor, your reward is waiting for you. I'm sure Ireena knows where it is."

QUinn nods and draws out the sword, and after thinking a moment, kneels to be properly reverent about the moment "father if i could have your full name and the full name of your son, i think its probably best if i get as specific as i can."

He sighs before speaking. "Our family name has been long forgotten. We only have first names, a tradition that's been in the family for generations. My name is only Donavich. My son's name is Doru. I know you want to be as specific as you can, but that's as specific as I can be I'm afraid." Lucan walks over and puts his arm on Quinn's shoulder. He bends down and speaks quietly. "That isn't much to go on for help, just think your words through. Take your time, you've got this. I know you do." He takes a few steps back to give Quinn some space and watches closely.

Quinn nods "here goes nothing." she inhales and exhales "I wish, that the son of this man Donavich, who is named Doru, shall be restored instantly and permanently to life by which i mean he shall no longer be undead and he shall also not be dead, but shall instead enjoy the state of existence that he previously enjoyed prior to being turned into a spawn by Strahd and shall continue to enjoy that state without reversion to undeath."

Quinn feels magic pulse from her body as she speaks. Above the church a blinding light appears in the sky. As the light fades two magic circles appear above the church. From the circles a beam of light pulses down into the church and a man screaming can be heard from inside. After a minute the circles fade and so does the light. Lucan looks over at father Donavich, "Was anyone else in the church?" The priest shakes his head as he runs into the church. Lucan shrugs and looks over at Quinn. "Should we give them a minute or go check it out? Just in case."

Quinn looks up at Lucan "we should... probably go in case it didnt work" she scrambles to her feet, holding the sword still and bolting into the church to see if it worked.

The others follow quickly behind Quinn into the church basement. As everyone makes their way down they can see Donavich in the center of the room hugging his son tightly. Doru's skin is starting to gain a little color, his eyes turn back to their original bright green. He looks over as you all enter and raises an eyebrow. "No one is supposed to be down here, only members of the church. Who are you?" Donavich shakes his head, "It's okay son. They are the ones that saved you, I'm sure they are just making sure everything went okay, right?" Doru looks confused but doesn't speak for a moment. "Save me from what? I've only been down here for five minutes. It's not like there's anything dangerous down here."

Donavich looks over at the others with a puzzled look on his face. "I don't think he remembers anything. Which might not be a bad thing truth be told." He releases Doru and takes a step back. He watches as Doru's body starts to gain some muscle back. After a few seconds his body seems to be how it was before he headed off to fight against Strahd. He shrugs and looks at Donavich, "Remember what? You sent me down to grab a broom, but it's not down here for some reason."

Quinn nods "maybe i was a little overzealous in the 'exactly as he was before it all happened' part of things..." she shifts a little bit and looks over the others "but you know, i figured it was best to err on the side of caution" she smiles at the kindly priest "we will leave you to your reunion, and you can fill your son in on events. I'm glad this worked out for the two of you." she nods her head, respectfully "shall we head to Ireena's?" not wanting to intrude over much on the family's reunion.
