Curse of the Fallen Quest: Ring Bearer's Trilogy

Kat

"NO!" was the last thing that left my lips anger gave me added strength and flinging out my hand mentally reciting an incantation I fling a shield around Aria to deflect the knife. I turn my head slightly at Joseph, "I need energy!"

Joseph

It was an odd sensation. Something from nowhere. He eased himself up, walking over to the window. He heard Kat, for but a moment. She needed energy, did she? His lips pulled back, teeth bared. Joseph needed blood. Hunger washed through him. He moved to the window, and reached out. A fire escape.

He grinned, moving out. He reached out, finding the railing, and climbed up on it, raising his head, opening himself. It was the smell that got to him first. Death and honey. He jumped down, trying to absorb the fall as he hit the ground.

A sick snap answered, and his right leg flared in pain. He stood up, reaching down with his hand, and taking ahold of the protuding bone. With a grunt, he pushed it back into place. Blood rushed out from the wound even as warped skin and muscle pulled the bone back in, and covered the wound. The pain subsided to a dull throb, as his healing abilities pulled the bone back in. It wouldn't set perfectly, but he could break it and reset it later. The druid-enhanced healing wasn't as perfect as the normal rate, but it added speed, which was always helpful in battle.

"Well, well, that sounds familiar. That you, Lance? Really now, I'm trying to rest. Why don't you stop playing and go home. Or, better yet, why don't you do everyone a favor, die, and stop dragging yourself out of Hell this time?"

Aria

I moved as quickly as I could, stepping to one side and grabbing the dagger out of the air. Turning it in my hand, I pushed Anna back out of the way as Lance moved for Christian.

Holding the knife tightly, I turned and again stabbed it into Lance as he got near enough to Christian and I. Jerking my hand back, I moved back out of the way of the two men.

Joseph was there? My eyes didn't decieve me, Joseph was standing just a few feet away. Everything was happening much too quickly, dangerously too quick.

Christian

My right hand reached for a gun, my left reaching out to catch the man as he got closer, wanting to keep him at arm's length so as to give me more room to aim. If he got too close, the gun would be trapped between us, which meant either it was useless, or the bullet might wind up hitting a major organ. Both made for bad scenarios.
Before I could aim, Aria was in the way, stabbing at Lance with a daggar she seemed to have caught. I lowered the weapon, not wanting to risk a shot that would hit her.
A moment later, she was out of the way again, and Lance was too close to take aim. I fired one shot as the weapon was raised, aiming somewhere in the region of his lower thighs but uncertain if I'd caused any injuries with the attempts. My eyes stayed locked with his, and remained that way as he reached me, hands seeming to grope for my throat.
He had the momentum, and while instincts told me to grab onto him and roll backward, kicking in in that direction, I caught myself before I did that, not wanting the man any closer to Anna than he already was.
With a flick of my right wrist, I tossed the gun along the ground toward Anna and Aria, hoping the more sane of the two would get a hold of it, then grabbed Lance's arms by the wrists, trying to keep him from getting a grip on me anywhere, while also fighting to keep my feet. But momentum was with him, and by the Goddess he was strong.
I fell backward, pulling the man on top of me, managing to keep his hands only a few inches from my neck.
The ring glowed brightly on my finger, but what was it telling me?
I let go of is injured arm, letting the hand find my throat and do as it wished there, and reached down to my belt, drawing the other gun and tossing it out of both of our reaches (if he got hold of that...) before I dug my fingers into the hole the daggar had left in lance's arm, trying to tear it open further, hoping to cause enough pain to distract the man.

Aria

"ANNA! Get back!" I pushed her further down the alley and into a corner between the building and a dumpster. Turning, I picked up one gun and took aim.

Too many options.. too many bodies! Christian could be hurt or worse.. What to do? My mind was telling me too many things and all at once. Kill or be killed is what it came down to.

Did he want this? Did he think by killing Lance he would win? How could destroying the body he inhabits do anyone any good?

"Jesus.." A whisper as I aimed yet again, but my finger did not press the trigger. Too many 'what if's' in this scenario.. Far too many!

"Joseph! Two feet to your right! A gun." I called out to him, hoping that I didn't tell him the wrong right! My nerves were a jumbled mess...

My eyes squeezed closed a moment, all the memories and warnings rushing back through my head. Over and over they kept telling me "Do not kill him!"

BUT WHY?

He was no ring bearer and never had been.... Would releasing this.. thing! from Lance do more harm than good? My teeth gnawed on my lower lip as my sights kept moving.

"Kick him away Christian!" I hoped he had the strength to do just that.. Choices were pointless now.. There was no choice left open to me.

"LANCE!" I yelled out his name, my sights pointed between his shoulder blades. "LANCE! Get up!" I didn't want to do this. I did not want this choice, this viscious sick choice I had to make far too many times! How many times now had I killed Lance? By choice or by force? I felt like laughing and screaming both at the same time!

Rings.. Circles.. Always repeating!

(*Really wish you hadn't chosen this particular line. He is a demi-god, this thing inside Lance. I just wanted you all to know that, when I start moving Lance into God-Mode, he has a perfectly logical excuse)

More wounds flowed throughout him. The black blood, as slow as molasses and and swirling with death itself oozed out of him. He was a diseased man, something of a magical leper, unable to control whatever had taken over the body.
Somewhere, inside, trapped, as he always was, Lance screamed for mercy.
His only responce was laughter.
The muscles were tight as steel as they moved closer to Christian. Lance, bleeding from most of his wounds, and the black liquid now flowing like pus from other orafices. His mouth was filled with bright teeth swimming in blackened death.
Christian tried to resist, but his strength and efforts were just no good. Lance had to give him a great accomplishment. This man fought to the bitter end, trying with all his might to protect those he loved. Admirable.
The blood that oozed down onto his arms, hissed and dropped when they touched the glowing ring.
In a fast reaction, Lance grabbed Christian's neck with both of his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other. He leane din close to the destined vampire, sympathy and death in his voice.
"Sleep..."
A huge audible snap could be heard down the block as Lance twisted Christian's neck beyond capabilities. For a moment, he just stood there, and then fell to the ground, collapsing against all the pain.
Without pause, without thought, without even a chance to give some quirky little responce to all of those that had joined him now, he turned and went for the nearest body he could.
"Perhaps," He spoke, as he walked towards Joseph, "We will dance after all."
(don't worry, he'll be fine, especially with firegirl and her amazing reserves. I think she is unable to lose energy. You guys want to keep fighting? If so, I can just drop you off one by one.)

OOC: In comment to pooh's comment I will remind yall that KAt feeds off of the energy of people around her..........the battle is feeding her.........psych energy.

Joseph

He turned his head, listening. The smell, it was so pungent, a disgusting mix of opposites. Of course, he didn't really expect much else from Lance. He prepared himself.

His entire life had been focused on fighting. He just had to keep his wits about him. Sure, he only had one hand, and was blind, but that didn't mean he was a pushover.

"Well, Lance, if you want to dance, I'm more than willing to. You just name a tune and who should lead.Of course, there are other options. You could always just leave. Or is letting people live their lives too much to ask of you?"

Pain danced in his legs. he gritted his teeth, waiting for Lance, waiting for that window of opportunity.

"STOP IT!" I glared at Lance as I advanced on him.

"You said a day to think about it! Now you come here and bring all this?" I did not want to see another person hurt! Granted Christian would be alright, considering but still!

"You enjoy tormenting others?" I was slightly ticked off at this thing! Had he severed the neck, Christian would be dead, but instead he left the vampire to try and heal from a very serious wound.. Weakening us. Now he had his sights on Joseph!

"Leave, now." I moved and stood between him and Joseph, my eyes glaring into his. "You'll have your answer tomorrow.. But some how it will be hard now to convince them to help you." He flinched a little as if he might come for me. Moving back another step, I bumped against Joseph but didn't try to back up further.

"Do you suppose that if Lance dies, with you trapped inside.. that you just might die as well? or worse.. Be trapped? Just go.." I held the gun still, I wasn't afraid to use it if I had to, but I wanted no more god damned blood spilled here tonight!

"You gave me your answer," his throat deep and cocked with the black goo coming out from under his mouth, "You all did. There was no use to think about it. Coming out here, prepared to fight for nothing? Because I showed my presense? Your answer is clear."
Lance took the gun from her, in a lightening speed, yanked it from her grip as she pointed it at him.
He looked at it, like a child playing with some fragile new toy. In a moment of superb madness, he put it to his own head, and pulled the trigger.
A spray of gray brain matter, rich blood, and black ooze flew out of the other side of his head. He pulled the trigger again and again, standing there, his eyes dead and cold, the very power of the message clear in its intent.
"Lance is already dead," The being grinned a dirty toothless grin. Whatever soul Lance might have had left drowned out in the Entity's madness long ago.
With a kind and cold precision, he moved the gun up to Aria's chest, and let loose the rest of the bullets.
"Joseph, you above all others can think of a good deal to come from all this. Give me that ring on your finger. Hand it's little power over to me, and I promise you will live, I will even give you back what Mongrel took from you. Your son, your body. You don't choose to fight, then perhaps we can make something else come from this."

ummm

(ok this will take thought.. other than Aria is dead .. lol)

I slowly made my way down the fire escape while everything else went on below me. Taking the last few steps in a small jump I slowly come up behind the creature the only chance I can think of for the others is now right in front of me. My fangs extend to their full length as moving with extreme speed grab this thing that used to be lance from behind and sink my teeth in. Wrapping him in my arms like a lover I feel the creatures surprise, as I allow the darkness within myself to once again well up. Using my own essence I inject some of my sould into Lances body. I can feel beneath me the creature losing his strength, even a demigod was once less. I speak to it mentally ("Let the tide come to you.....I will bring you the release you sought....you tried to make a deal with the wrong Vamp in Aria.")

Joseph

Aria had been standing right in front of him when,....when whatever it was shot her. He could feel her body as the bullets ripped through her, before she fell to the ground. He ran a hand up to his chest, running fingers into the little round pains in his chest. His body was trying to heal, but the bullets had been slowed by Aria and his bodies. They wer lodged in, and the accelerated healing went around at both sides, trapping the hot lead in that most vital of areas.

It was an agonizing death. He fell to his knees, turning his head up towards what was Lance. But it said Lance was dead? Blood slipped out around his fingers in the holes. "At what price? What price would you give me? My body is not me, and my son is gone. What price would you have? My son, in a world ruled by darkness? My body, a slave as Lance's is? Sometimes,....death is a release...."

He fell forward, the ring flashing as it disappeared from his body. It was gone, for it's bearer was gone. Joseph was no more. The remants of bullets hit the ground, having brought death to the living, their purpose was spent.
