D.C. -- Statehood ? Or Abolition?

Most museums don't have rooms dedicated to discussing national security.

Or taking care of the needs of the POTUS/1st family and any number of important people.

Also you get to see more than 8 if you get the military cool guy tour.

Maybe if Real American weren't such a chickenhawk and more of a real American he could have gotten the big pimpin' WH tour and meeting with POTUS too. :D

They can do that at the Pentagon.

There are 132 rooms in the White House, how many are dedicated to "discussing national security"?

Would you ask your boss to travel to your office to talk or would you go to his that has a drinks cabinet?

I think that reverting everything but the federal triangle area of D.C. to Maryland is a viable option. The Republicans aren't going to go for statehood, as D.C. would automatically be the bluest of blue states. But Maryland is already blue, so no red state loss there if most of the district reverted.

Why does the president need such a palace? With such large grounds, and therefore massive staff and upkeep costs...

You really aren't very bright, are you? Security, for one. Respect for the office and pride of country, for two. What country doesn't provide a security, dignified residence for its chief of state? And let's go back to the public museum issue. How many functioning chief of states' houses can you name that maintain regular public tours of that house?

Will it spoil your day to know that we provide a very nice house, with grounds, for the vice president as well? (I hope so.)

You seem to live under a rock--and to have been born under one as well.

The President may be the "boss" of the military, but he is the servant of the People.

There's no reason the President can't live in a small house in MD, VA, etc. and commute to D.C. for work. He does not need to live in the White House, and the White House and it's land is being wasted.

How much of the building is being used for real work? Compared to the Pentagon, the Capital Building, etc.

It's like building a skyscraper for a small pet salon that only uses one floor.

A major role of a chief of state is to entertain. If it didn't happen in his residence with a staff, it would have to happen somewhere else with the same staff.

You really don't know much about government, do you?

The bottom line, (Un)Real, is that you are just doing this to be an asshole and no matter how much explaining folks could do for you, they can't make you choose to understand.

Security, for one.
So it's easier to provide security to a massive estate? You know nothing about security.

Respect for the office and pride of country, for two. What country doesn't provide a security, dignified residence for its chief of state?
He is not a king, politicians are not royalty, they are public servants.

They should consider it a privilege and an honor to hold such an office and be trusted with such a responsibility.

They shouldn't be doing it so they can live like rock stars on the taxpayer's dime.

And let's go back to the public museum issue. How many functioning chief of states' houses can you name that maintain regular public tours of that house?
Off the top of my head none, but that is a non sequitur.

Will it spoil your day to know that we provide a very nice house, with grounds, for the vice president as well?
Yes, but a progressive piece of trash like you must be cumming in your panties.

It would cost less to rent a hall when needed.

And how big are these parties that he needs a mansion?

The bottom line, Real, is that you are just doing this to be an asshole and no matter how much explaining folks could do for you, they can't make you choose to understand.
You are progressive scum and you hate America.

Things I would do before considering D.C. 51

Split Texas into four or more states.

Split California into four or more states.

Split Michigan into two states, or give the U.P. to Wisconsin.

Trade Alaska for the Maritime Provinces.

Give Puerto Rico to Cuba.

Consider the Federated States Of Micronesia for statehood.

I didn't bother to read anything but this bottom line, because what is clear is that your elevator doesn't go all the way to the top, so it doesn't really matter much what you post. :D

You concession on not being able to find a country that doesn't provide housing to its chief of state or that opens its chief of states' house to public tours is accepted. :D

What a little pissant you are. ;)

Slurpy doesn't use logic or facts to back up his arguments.

I have a huge crush on Rachel because she's everything I wish I was. She gives me butterflies in my stomach and makes me weak at the knees. How I long for the day when she will return my undying love.

Might sound a bit too poetic for you, but whatever.

That was pretty gay, you one of those faggot lady-bois?

Maritimes are more connected to the US. You don't have to drive through Canada to get to them.
I've always felt that the US shouls simply annex the land between Washington and Alaska as part of our territory.

We should also redefine our border with Canada, make it a nice straight line.

The United Kingdom Parliament, House of Commons and House of Lords, will have to move out of the Houses of Parliament for several years while the buildings are renovated.

There are no suitable buildings in Central London to house Parliament and people are looking around the country to find somewhere for Parliament to operate.

Of course, the Houses of Parliament are not like Washington DC. They are fairly compact buildings within walking distance of Number 10 Downing Street, Whitehall and the main Civil Service departments. Technically they are part of the Royal Palace of Westminster but they don't have the special status given to Washington DC.

In earlier days, Parliament was wherever the Monarch happened to be, but now we are a constitutional monarchy, the Monarch (or an heir) only has to be present for the formal State Opening, so our Parliament could meet anywhere.

Any suggestions? A likely place being considered is near Bristol. Another is near Birmingham International Station and airport.

I think the Outer Hebrides would be good, or Rockall.

In US terms think of an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico, or a sand bank off the East Coast.
