David smiled a little when she said she could take it straight. In a way he was proud of the girl, able to stand up against the proof in spite of her age, weight and gender. Liquor, it was the glue that bound and now it was going to bind him and his daughter together. The stuff never hurt anything, other than his career but the booze followed so soon after the troubles at home that he attributed all that to his wife.
When Shyla returned he let her pour the liquor, feeling strange that he’d be drinking something most considered low brow in something considered high class. But David was never one to follow social norms anyway. It was probably the main reason why he lived alone in spite of living in close proximity to what he affectionately referred to as ‘everything.’ Immediately David took a drink as he watched his daughter.
What she told him almost made him blurt out his drink but he managed to hide it well, years of poker negating the shock he felt at what she said. Shyla seemed to be taking a good bit of liquor down and it seemed like she wanted to drink so he was going to let her. David moved toward the table, taking a seat at one of the chairs as he sat on it sideways so he could still look at her and talk with her.
“I’m proud of you, then. If its something you didn’t want to do,” he spoke as he caught himself checking out his own daughter. He blamed it on anything but his lust. “Why don’t you come over here and sit down and we can talk about it.” Then he smiled, “And be sure you bring the bottle. We’ll be needing it.”
