Dangerous Duets ~ Incubus and his Muse (Closed for Veroe)

Canaan followed after her with Karena, "Hey what about answering our question?"

"Let's give her a couple of moments," Karena said with a smile, "We have time."

"It's just that it seems that everyone seems to always know more than we do," He complained, "But fine...fine..I'll give her the time she needs."

She curled against him kissing his cheek. Slowly twirling around him with a smile her eyes never leaving his.

He chuckled shaking his head at her. "God, I love you."

Andrina came back to them. "One being choose wisely."

He nudged Karena, "Which do you want to know more about: the shadow people or the woman in your nightmares?"

Gabriel bent down to kiss her on her cheek, "Just relax...you don't ever do that enough...my love."

"I rest when I can beloved." She nodded with the most adorable of smiles she saved solely for him.

"I know you well enough to know that your idea of when you can rest and the reality of when you can actually rest tend to be two very different times." He told her hugging close as they relaxed together.

Karena looked to Andrina and thought for a moment.

Who is the woman with the black streaks on her face?

And body...

Andrina added.

She was not someone the fey world ever... needed. She was a major part of the rift that this region unlike others has never healed from. She is the depth of rage madness and corruption. Light and dark Fey rifted over what to do with her. Light fey believe it or not wanted to wipe her from the face of the earth. Dark Fey wanted to seal her in a tomb as close to death as possible. Immortal sleep. This town never forgave each other that's why Audra does her best to keep this place neutral ground and the felines guard the badlands with such lethal tenacity. She vanished centuries ago. Believe me I would love to know why she has invaded your dreams. I dont remember what powers she had the old stories attempt to leave out as much as possible about her. Fears that too much knowledge existing about her could lead to her return. It took my kind the felines and a couple of now extinct races to stop her centuries ago.

She studied them finally seeing what Audra saw. There was a light to both of them... and something frighteningly familiar about Karena but she could not place it.

That is all I know.

---------
Audra couldn't help but chuckle at his words concerning really relaxing.

Beloved... eventually we will need to talk about... some things.

She snuggled against him eyes closing as she listened to his heartbeat

Canaan listened to what Andrina had to say about the women in black from way back before the era of the division between the light and dark fey factions. There was little officially known about this prehistory. He wondered if his sister had any knowledge of it at all. Or if she did and had locked it away in the Dark Fey headquarter's archives section only the Lilith could access. Something to ask her in the future. If she did not have him placed under arrest for cavorting with enemy forces.

He looked to Karena then to Andrina. "Do we really think this ancient evil is trying to come back and somehow our shared dreams are warning us of this?"

"Beloved..." She said with a chuckle at his quip, "Eventually we will need to talk about... some things."

"Ssshh, love," He said lifting a finger to stop her from speaking further, "Just soak in this moment. Tomorrow's problems can wait until then."

You two having shared dreams about her is most troubling and I thank you for bringing it to my attention. I am like the felines. My order was not a part of the division as we were more global. If the dreams change do not fail to inform me. I do truly wish I knew why you two were seeing this but if it means what I think it means then yes some early warning system will be a great asset.

Andrina could not shake the thought that somehow the orphan muse was tired to that being which meant she was tired to... The ancient royal family? No... There were no descendants... We're there?

--------------

Audra smiled and snuggled close against him. Leaning back to kiss him softly her eyes closing as she rested her hands caressing down along his legs.

Very well love this time.

"Very well, love," She smiled to him contentedly snuggling against him, "This time."

he stroked the side of her face tenderly giving her this moment of perfect contentment here in her tub in his arms.

I do not think that either of you are of the dark ones bloodline as there was no creativity to her just spells darkness and death. The dark smoke spirits are of little worry there are many ways to wipe out a hive of them.

She paused eyes scanning the bar.

Any other questions will need to wait if you wish to ask Audra the questions.

------
Audra turned shifting her body to curl around him to kiss him softly. Her hands moving to caress his cheek and chest.

She was pleased that this underground dwelling had survived so well through the division and made such a perfect home for them.

"But how is it possible that the two of us out of everyone in the world see them in our dreams," Canaan pressed, "I-"

He was brought abruptly short as she looked past them scanning the bar, "Any other questions will need to wait if you wish to ask Audra the questions."

She got up from the table and left them there, alone and bereft of any direction. Canaan looked to Karena rubbed his temple. All of this stress and unknowns and talk of ancient evils were giving him a bit of a headache. "Is it just me or do you feel like we're being led around with no one able or willing to give us a clear answer?"

He nodded to what she said in response to that. "What should we do next? Should we wait to talk with Audra or just call it quits and go home?"

He stroked the side of her face tenderly giving her this moment of perfect contentment here in her tub in his arms.

She turned her body so she could kiss him and raised a hand to rub his cheek tenderly.

"Now, my darling love. I'm sorry to talk business down here," He said giving her equally tender kisses to her lips cheeks forehead. "But tell me what should I say to the light fey about your special project...the incubus and muse have come across their radar in a big way-probably with the dark fey's too-and they wanted me to find out what you're planning to do with those two? They still don't know what you're actual aim is...they're just not stupic enough to fall entirely under the 'I'm just a local small business owner running a neutral bar' act after so many strings have been pulled you're way from the shadows."

The Light Fey thought he was their mole in Audra's circle. He'd be in serious trouble if they knew he Audra's mole into their organization instead. It was all part of the dance of daggers that was Fey politics from the time mankind had been inventing fire and the wheel. It was a game his beloved excelled at. He would have her back in these dangerous days to come...always.

An orphan who is not of the more common muse born races with a mindset seeming born into her from our time before councils and divisions she is one of those with rate born muse in their ranks beloved like your elemental people. Sharing dreams with an incubus about... Her

She knew he would understand and remember the her she spoke of. The one who sought to wipe her out before and claim the throne centuries ago. The "her" that even the dark fey would be terrified of even now.

I allowed them to bond because the spirits told me they had to be bonded and one to help her survive what she is to face but they refuse to tell me who she is or what she must face. Even the spirits who speak to the castsli are most cryptic and they adore her.

Karena smiled.

We can wait if you want but...

She leaned in whispering in his ear of nice got baths and rides on his bike down the shore to hidden wonders of the badlands where they could be alone and far from prying eyes or minds before kissing his lips and nipping at his neck.

He nodded to what she said in response to that. "What should we do next? Should we wait to talk with Audra or just call it quits and go home?"

"We can wait if you want but..." Karena answered with a smile. She moved in close to whisper into Canaan's ear. His eyebrows lifted at what she had to suggest to him.

"Hmmm..." He murmured in return, "...Maybe we should get out of here...right now?"

She kissed him a quick playful kiss followed by a nip to the side of his neck.

He chuckled, "Oh we're definitely getting out of here now." He pulled her in and laid a kiss that was certainly less playful on her now.

"I know this all. You explained it before." He told her lifting her up from the tub carried in his arms to set her down and pull out a towel to dry her off. "I am only saying that the other Fey are beginning to suspect that you're up to something, and I know you figured they would eventually, but things are only getting more perilous for you, my beloved, and that's not even counting the ancient enemy."

She bit her tongue daring not to truly tell him why she was so invested in the orphan muse. She suspected he already knew. They never got to be there for their baby that had to be sent away before they even knew what the child was and this young woman was an orphan clearly from her mind set of an older time like them.

If the council can not handle that I still follow the ancestral ways and consult spirits over them then they can get over it. They fear her don't they?

______

Karena smiled and hurried with him from the bar and straight to his motorcycle. A note was laying on the bike with the faintest of magic holding it there safe from the breeze.

He chuckled, "Oh we're definitely getting out of here now." He pulled her in and laid a kiss that was certainly less playful on her now.

They left Audra's bar and climbed on top of his bike. In a matter of minutes they were roaring down the city streets towards the badlands and Karena's house again. Karena's arms were around as she held on tight behind him. Despite all the worries of ancient evils and inexplicable nightmares, Canaan had to admit, life was good...great even with such a beautiful and inspiring woman with him.

Finally he pulled up to her house and stopped dead in his tracks. There was a black Mercedes in Karena's driveway. The driverside window rolled down to reveal his sister Persephone Alexander, the Lilith of the Dark Fey looking at him with such dissapointment in her face.

Canaan pushed Karena behind him as they got up from the Harley. He wanted to keep himself between Persey and Karena to protect her even though if Persey wanted to harm her an attack wouldn't be coming directly from her. He cast eyes about searching for any bodygaurd or assassin that'd do his big sister's dirty work for her. "What are you doing here?"

The car door open and Persey climbed out in a very short, very revealing scarlet mini-dress and black leather jacket. She regarded them coolly. "I can't see how my little baby brother is doing...especially when he's being such a colossal dummy." She rolled her eyes crossing her arms under the rather prodigious amount of cleavage the dress revealed. "Honestly, Canaan, going into Light Fey territory and antagonizing a Seraphim of all things. If you don't value your life perhaps choose a method of suicide that won't start a war between the two sides."

Her eyes narrowed when they shifted on to Karena, "And then there's your current conquest..." She turned those cold eyes back to him, "While I am overjoyed that you've convinced an unaligned Fey to join us in the Dark Fey I reserve the right to vette any recruit especially when they get romantically involved with my idiot brother."

A very distinct roar bellows out.

State your business Lillith?

Karena holds up a hand as some of the pride allows themselves to be seen surrounding the situation. Staring down his smug sister she was not intimidated nor impressed with spoiled power

Easy Tallos. Even the Lilith is surely smart enough to know she holds no power here in the badlands. This is our domain they are not some spoiled aged leaders here trying to lay claims to anything nor anyone in our territories.

There was a cool air about Karena. A calm that spoke its own power.

It has been made clear from day one I join no side of this petty little pathetic temper tantrum. So now get back in your limo and leave my property and the badlands or risk learning just what the prides will do.

Tallos finished that statement

With the councils FULL backing. And know this Canaan... IS ONE OF US... the badlands accept him as one of our own. And we hold no ties to either side. We are older than your school yard squabbles.

Tallos took a protective stance like a mother lion just behind the cubs as so many pics have swirled the web. He would protect both of them. A roar once more but this one was more telepathic to those like the Cyclops and the ancient dark fey vampire. The two who could have even a slight sway over their courts leader. It also let Audra Andrina and Gabriel know who had made the first move.

There came a roar from across the street as the werecat they had met earlier bellowed, "State your business Lillith?"

karena raised her hand to stay his aggressive approach towards Persey, and shifted over to stand between him and his sister.

Persey, for her part, regarded him as if he was a child butting into a conversation between the grown-ups. "You look after your pack, little boy, and I will do the same for mine. Now go run along and play somewhere else."

"Easy Tallos. Even the Lilith is surely smart enough to know she holds no power here in the badlands." Karena said trying to diffuse the escalating situation, "This is our domain they are not some spoiled aged leaders here trying to lay claims to anything nor anyone in our territories."

This made Canaan's sister regard her in a more contemplative...and he thought a covetous light. Karena's keen analysis here was not doing a good job of maintaining any sort of illusion that she was not worth the trouble of the Lilith of the Dark Fey gobbling up whether she wanted to join up or not.

To his sister he explained, "She and the people here have been independent of either faction for years, Persey. Both you and the Castali actively try ignore the badlands and all of the Fey that live in it."

She then added coolly to that, "It has been made clear from day one I join no side of this petty little pathetic temper tantrum. So now get back in your limo and leave my property and the badlands or risk learning just what the prides will do."

Then Tallos immediately threw in with, "With the councils FULL backing. And know this Canaan... IS ONE OF US... the badlands accept him as one of our own. And we hold no ties to either side. We are older than your school yard squabbles."

"What?" Canaan whipped around to stare at the young leader of the shifter gang, "Me? Are you serious? Tell me you're not being serious."

Persephone laughed dismissively, "Now who is recruiting people without their consent?"

She raised an arm and her Vampire protection detail that had been sneaking up on each of Tallos's gangmembers with silvered weapons in hand stopped and backed off away at seeing the gesture. Canaan's heart stopped as she saw a pale petite woman in a black business suit hands on her black samurai sword that had not been there a second before-or more likely using a glamour to divert everyone's eyes from noticing she had been standing between them and her boss the whole time until now.

"Did you really think I came here to this god forsaken armpit of the city without any bodygaurds in tow," Persey asked mockingly.

Dominique was not just any old vampire woman. She was probably regarded as neck and neck with the Seraphim of the Light Fey as the most dangerous and ruthless killer of either side in the city. The body count behind this demure and quiet butcher was truly eye-popping. Also there was a certain amount of personal bad blood between her and Canaan. She had been the first woman he had ever been with as an inexperienced and uncertain young Incubus and the break up had not gone over especially well. He still had the scars literally from when she'd drawn that sword on him to-

She gave him a laughing wink and blew him a kiss as Persey turned and walked towards Karena's front door. "Now, if we are finished comparing dick sizes..." She regarded Karena as if hers was the only opinion that truly mattered here, "...Let's take this inside like civilized people and talk this over. Some coffee would be lovely, tea would be even better if you have any of the good stuff...none of the total cheap horse shit from the local supermarkets."

She stood by the door waiting for Karena to invite her inside. "I'd like to get to know the woman who'd make Canaan grow a pair big enough to take a stand against me like that."

Get off my property and out of the badlands now. I have nothing to say to you and you have nothing to offer.

Canaan remember when we were here before and he told.you that.you were safe here and one of us?

The badlands are not your domain. Leave and I will.see.to it the felines do not report this to the council. Ever come.to my.property again I however will go to the council as well as Audra and the Castali to reveal your breaking of the sanctity and security of the independence of the badlands now. Get out.

Tallos seemed also to watch Karena like he was studying looking for something.

She stood by the door waiting for Karena to invite her inside. "I'd like to get to know the woman who'd make Canaan grow a pair big enough to take a stand against me like that."

"Get off my property and out of the badlands now." Karena shouted to the Lillith of thte Dark Fey, "I have nothing to say to you and you have nothing to offer."

That made Persey straighten up and take an even more focused look at her little brother's newest paramour.

To him Karena said, "Canaan remember when we were here before and he told you that you were safe here and one of us?"

He shook his head to her, "No, you don't understand, this is terrible," He reached out his arms between the felines and the vampires, "Everyone needs to just chill out, okay. We can talk this out like civilized people."

"That was what I came for, brother." Persey said still sizing up Karena, "It is very cute though that a few kitty cats think they could withstand the ire of the Dark Fey."

"The badlands are not your domain." Karena glared at her, "Leave and I will.see.to it the felines do not report this to the council."

"The Council," Persey laughed dismissively, "Try threatening me with something more than those paper tigers."

Karena was not having it. "Ever come.to my property again I however will go to the council as well as Audra and the Castali to reveal your breaking of the sanctity and security of the independence of the badlands now. Get out."

If mentioning the council did not phase Persey, the mentioning of Audra and most certainly the Castali of the Light Fey did. Though it wasn't fear of Karena making good on her threat to her that could be seen in his big sister's eyes. No, she wasn't afraid of any of those people...instead one could see anger warring with suspicion in her sapphire blue eyes as she locked glares with Karena.

"Persey," Canaan tried again to salvage this situation. "Don't hurt her...please?"

"Do not worry, Canaan," She said never leaving the wrestling match of stare downs between her and his new lover, "I like her." She turned away and to him she said simply, "Enjoy yourself while it lasts."

To Dominique and her vampire bodyguards she gave a gesture and they all vanished among the shadows once again. She opened the door of her car and before climbing inside she called out to Karena, "You're going to break my brother's heart, aren't you?" She sighed as she sat herself inside the car seat, "I suppose I'll have to pick up the peices again."

The car's engine started and in a moment the Lillith of the Dark Fey left them all alone.

Canaan collapsed onto the stairs to Karena's front door. "Oh, this is bad. This is really bad." He cradled his head in hands shaking in despair.

She nodded to Tallos. Who shook his head and sent the others away before sitting down by Canaan.

I am probably going to get in trouble with very select people but there is more. I don't know how or why but you two are bound together further back and stronger than even I can see. There is no lifetime you to will not find each other. I suspect your sister senses that too. I also think our little muse is more than she knows or thinks or is willing or able to tell.

He shook his head at words only he heard

Not the council not the Lillith not the Castali no one can separate you two. Fates be whatever they will be for my telling you.

IC: Canaan Alexander

Canaan collapsed onto the stairs to Karena's front door. "Oh, this is bad. This is really bad." He cradled his head in hands shaking in despair.

He heard Tallos' statement about how he and Karena were irreparably bound together. However, that truth didn't make him feel better. He kept dwelling on the fact that he'd crossed the line...he'd gone against his sister. Sure she was controlling and always saw him as the little brother that could never seem to get his shit straight, but she was his only family left, and since they were little, she was the one who had taken care of him, protected him from those in the Dark or Light Fey factions that wanted to even old scores with them, even sacrificing any chance of a normal life she might have had in order to raise him on her own.

And he had betrayed her now. He'd turned his back on Persey.

He needed healing...he needed solace...he needed release.

Canaan got up and stumbled inside Karena's house and sat down at her old piano and his fingers found the keys and just began to play what his heart felt. He let it all out into the world through the music of Karena's piano. Music had always been his way of dealing with things he couldn't with either words or deeds. It was his sanctuary, his therapy, his catharsis from a world that only rarely made any sense to him.

When the song ended, he looked up to see Karena standing there beside the piano. "Sorry...I just needed to let that out."

Karena walked over and hugged him.

That's perfectly fine it is a part of you Canaan.

She leaned her head against his shoulder standing behind him hugging him.

Tallos and the felines are in the badlands because they are one of the last races who are older than the division. He is like the Cyclops. He does not give a shit about sides. He was able to work with both sides before but your sister and the current Castali He... doesn't care for nor trust. You He likes and he doesn't like outsiders.

She started to let go of him.

If you would feel better running back to her I would fully understand.

IC: Canaan Alexander

When the song ended, he looked up to see Karena standing there beside the piano. "Sorry...I just needed to let that out."

"That's perfectly fine. It is a part of you Canaan." She said walking over to him and leaning her head against him as she embraced him in a comforting hug.

"It's always been how I deal with really heavy stuff." He reached up from the keys and laid a hand on her arm. "The others still around?"

"Tallos and the felines are in the badlands because they are one of the last races who are older than the division. He is like the Cyclops." She explained to him, "He does not give a shit about sides. He was able to work with both sides before but your sister and the current Castali He... doesn't care for nor trust. You He likes and he doesn't like outsiders."

"I don't really care about him," He confessed to her, "I think I-err-I mean-we hurt my sister's feelings. I dream of telling her to fuck off like that, but...when it came down to it. I just can't leave her. She's my sister, Karena, She's the only family I have left."

"If you would feel better running back to her," She replied letting him go, "I would fully understand."

"No," He said reclaiming his hand and pulling her down to sit beside him on the piano's bench. Now they were at the same level. "You wouldn't because I wouldn't understand it either. It's a matter of the heart not logic. But I want to stay with you...I just really don't want to turn my back on her either. "

I will not be pulled into petty war lines Canaan and you know she expects you to be able to make me do just that.

She sighed really hating having gone to the music festival at all. She also knew what either side trying to damage or go against the sanctity and security of the badlands means and his sister nearly just did that. She was certain that Audra and her guard probably already knew about it and the Castali she suspected knew also what his sister had done. The area was protected and her all but blatantly saying she didn't care was a more dangerous thing than he seemed to realize.

I will not join a side and I will help defend this place here in the badlands with my life if I have to. This area has been off-limits to fae war for generations and it had always been honored till your sister that is.

Shaking her head.

So... Now what do we do? I don't want to lose this don't want to lose you but she may cause that very thing.

"I will not be pulled into petty war lines, Canaan." She clarified with a tired sigh, "And you know she expects you to be able to make me do just that."

It took a moment but he nodded at that, "I know."

Persey had really pushed things here. The badlands were always avoided, but also always protected by ancient agreements locked in stone long before the division between the light and dark fey ever happened. He didn't know much about ancient history. He was always a better musician and artist than a scholar growing up, but he at least knew not to fuck around with agreements that old and revered by thos that remembered them.

"So... Now what do we do? I don't want to lose this don't want to lose you," She continued shaking her head, "But she may cause that very thing."

"Things are getting more tense here." He told her sadly, "Whether you want it or not we're becoming a flashpoint in this endless conflict between the light and dark fey."

"I think the best option is for you to go on that trip to Barcelona and get out of the city until everybody loses interest in you." He sighed resigned on the path laid out before him, "I need to go too...to protect you from those shadow people and that woman...and if they're watching you...and if I know her she'd have one of those vampire bastards doing just that."

He looked at her. "But that means they may not move on you if I'm there with you during the trip...they may think it's me wooing you to the darkside. So they won't try to do anything like kidnapping you when you head towards the airport. Also, If we're really lucky we still could get away before the light fey at least know you're going out of town."

"Don't worry, Karena," He said reaching up to caress her cheek tenderly, "I won't let them take you and trap you under all this bullshit like I am...you'll be free of them...I swear it to you on the memory of my father."

No matter what posturing they do. You know both sides would not cross Audra. Hell her bouncer Andrina won't cross her and that is the most intimidating fey I have ever met and I spent a summer studying ancient Tibetan and Japanese music and art with a dragon who was less intimidating. Tallos even holds a healthy respect for Audra and Andrina then again he knows more about them than he will ever say I am sure of that just like the Cyclops.

She thought on him going with her and smiled.

You do realize I am going to be dancing around in the video with that little Latin duo who you claim not to be jealous of right?

She winked teasingly.

Hell her bouncer Andrina won't cross her and that is the most intimidating fey I have ever met and I spent a summer studying ancient Tibetan and Japanese music and art with a dragon who was less intimidating. Tallos even holds a healthy respect for Audra and Andrina then again he knows more about them than he will ever say I am sure of that just like the Cyclops."

"Don't underestimate how devious my sister or the Castali can be," He shook his head, "They may try to use you to blame the other for Audra to sick Andrina upon, or more likely just try to disappear you leaving no clue which one of them took you for Audra to be cross with." He took her hand in his head, "And more to the point her protection only makes you a more valuable game piece on the board."

He listened to her teasing about her and the latin lovers and smiled ruefully, "You're trying to change the subject to something lighter, and I appreciate it." He lifted her hand and kissed it, "I'll try to keep my violently possessiveness when it comes to you in check when you're with them."

He turned back to the piano and began playing something brighter and more joyous. They played and sung and danced and made love for the rest of the night. The next morning they woke up and made their way to the airport. They tried to be quick and discrete not to draw any attention to themselves but both of them knew they were being watched. All the way until they boarded the plane Canaan felt his sister's disapproving eyes upon him.

But when he got in the air he clutched Karena's hand and smiled to her. For the first time in his life Canaan was free, out from under his sister's control. To this wonderful woman beside him he said, "Let's go have an amazing adventure."

Hell, let's move there get away from this ego-tripping town and enjoy our lives... Together. Audra and the council are going to lose their shit over your sister's stunt. Quite frankly I am betting right now she is hoping that none of them know or begging Andrina not to tell Audra.

She sat back and smiled once they were on the plane.

Yes adventure... And music.

Canaan shrugged, "We can't stay away...Persey would send people after me...She thinks I will eventually pull you over to the dark fey so she'll give it some time, but eventually she'll be after me and you too."

He took a deep breath, "But that's a problem for the future. Right now let's focus on what's happening right now." He smiled to her, "I'm getting away from it all...with you...and I'm going to enjoy every second I'm given of it."

"Yes...Adventure..." She affirmed, "...and music..."

The plane was cruising across the sky and Canaan marveled at the sight of the clouds out of the plane's windows as they flew by. He held her hand through it all amazed as their adventure overseas truly begun. He leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks for giving me the courage to do this."
