Claire slept through the entire morning. She was utterly exhausted and when she woke at two that afternoon, her eyes fluttered open, staring at the ceiling for a moment, confused. Rolling onto her side, she winced, pain rippling through her body from her ankle.
She carefully sat up and was startled to find that she was still naked. Her fingers trailed across her bandaged ankle and she frowned. “Did Wolf...?” she whispered to herself, deep in thought, replaying the events from the previous night, trying to make sense of it.
Kendrick had kept both himself and Wolf captive in this house for a very long time, segregating them from society to hide the fact that he had two forms residing in one body. She wondered how it had happened. How long has it been going on for? They were both prisoners in this place, both incredibly lonely. Was she the only link between them?
Claire carefully pushed herself up to her feet, gingerly trying to step on her leg, which just simply hurt too much. Holding on to the few furnishings that were securely bolted down, she made her way to the door and was not surprised to find it locked. There was no way out and it disheartened her.
It was so cold.
“Kendrick!” she screamed, banging on the door. Maybe he didn’t know she was down here. Did the two of them even know what the other was doing? “Kendrick, I’m here,” she tried again.
A piece of cloth peeped out from under the door and Claire slowly bent down, digging it out. It was the sheet she had left at the bottom of the staircase the day before. It took about ten minutes, but she finally managed to wrestle the entire sheet into the room and wrapped it around herself to try and stay warm.
In the corner of the room, she spotted a security camera. Walking up to it, she waved wildly, “I’m here,” she said, her voice breaking. Spending a few minutes doing that, she finaly gave up and made her way back to the mangled chair. Sitting down, she pulled her legs up to her chest and rested her chin on her knees, wrapping her arms around them, staring blindly at the floor. It was a hopeless situation.
The sun would set ... and he would come ...
