Depressing, sure. But aren't you grateful that your dog didn't try to brave it out, and then die the next day because he refused to spoil Christmas by going to the vet?
I posted the thread because I was surprised by the reason I read for the Christmas death rate. I thought they'd say it was stress-related, in which case there's not a lot to be done about it. But if it's as simple as people trying not to ruin the family Christmas by calling an ambulance, some of those deaths might be avoided by simply postponing Christmas until Dad comes home from the hospital. Instead of trying it the other way.
