Defenders Char sheet/Idea room (open to all)

I had this typed on my phone over the last few days (I wasn't able to use my computer due to that room being occupied by visiting family) only for Lit to eat it when I tried to post this morning. Argh!

Here is the bio for my first and "main" character. This is a first draft; very little here is set in stone. I'm not clear on the state of the world technologically or the crisis that originally put the Defenders together. Something about robots? Since her background involves robotics, if I need to change that, let me know. I would like feedback and criticism so I can make adjustments as needed; I don't want to do too much or have her be too powerful.

I'm also sorry for the length. I may have gotten carried away...but I don't like being vague and there was so must to say and tell! Still, I'm very sorry; I know that reading all this must be a pain.

Costume (if applicable): A body hugging black body suit of carbon nanotubes with high tech boots with greaves, gauntlets, shoulder pads, and a visored headpiece in silver. (See attached pic) The control crown once gave her control of the nanites but now just houses comm gear and an on-board computer that can access the Internet and contains a library of schematics; the visor is capable of both low light and night vision. It also serves as a heads-up display for her on-board computer and can let her check the status of nanite construction projects. The gauntlets still contain the air cannons used to spread the nanites before her transformation.

Smoker: Only for a disguise

Drinker: Makoto can't get drunk or even tipsy because of the nanites, so she drinks little now as it is pointless but will do so for a disguise. Before her transformation Makoto would drink heavily after victories or failures. And sing.

Illness: None as the nanites assist her body in eliminating any harmful substances, bacteria, viruses, etc.

Mental Issues: Mild phobia of spiders, Jane Smith, and the nanites going out of control. She is also slightly paranoid about John Smith and his efforts against Jane, suspecting him of unconsciously going easy on her. Makoto was very repressed before her transformation as well as in denial about her gender and sexuality; issues surrounding this still crop up. She hates to fail or look foolish in any way and will excoriate herself mercilessly and can fall into deep depression after such incidents.

Goals: Before her transformation, Makoto's goals were to provide a heroic example for his country and raise their spirits/international profile and to help re-establish their technological superiority. Those goals have been accomplished to one degree or another and now Makoto has no clear goals other than to live as fully as possible. She also has a goal of finding a way to kill Jane Smith. Otherwise, she is somewhat aimless.

Aspirations: experience as many new things as possible, one day reveal her secret and be accepted, be the focus of a gang bang or participate in an orgy, kill/neutralize Jane Smith.

Personality: Makoto has a keen intellect and curiosity, always interested and wanting to learn more. She was once very reserved and shy, and still is sometimes, but is making an effort to be more outgoing. Her moods tend to be strong; when excited, she is cheery and enthusiastic. When depressed, sad, or angry, she sinks deep into the emotion.

She is notably more confident and bold when in costume.

SKILLS

Skills: Makoto is a world class scientist and engineer. She has Ph.Ds in Robotics, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Engineering; though she no longer has proof of her degrees or any other credentials. She is a genius level intellect with deep knowledge in chemistry, physics (quantum physics especially), biology, and medicine. She is well educated and has a wide body of knowledge in other subjects as well. Her skills are not simply academic; she is a solid mechanic and excellent with electronics. She is very good at programming robots but less skilled with other types of programming, though she is a decent hacker (but she usually just uses the nanites to get into any system she wants).

Makoto does not have any real athletic training other than in swimming, being a very strong swimmer. She has experience with running, jumping, and so on but little training. As part of the Defenders, she was given instruction in kendo, karate, and marksmanship by some of the best teachers in Japan (so she wouldn't embarrass her homeland in combat) and is proficient but few would call her expert.

Growing up in Toyama, the sea was ever present so Makoto has a lot of skills relating to growing up on the coast. In addition to being a great swimmer, she knows how to sail, pilot most small to mid sized watercraft, snorkel, SCUBA (though her certification lapsed years ago for a few reasons), navigate, and a lot of knotwork. She is terrible at fishing, however, and is embarrassed about it.

Weapons: Her costume does have a pair of air cannons on each forearm that create gusts of pressurized air that can buffet an enemy but Makoto does not often use them. She generally uses the nanites to make weapons on the fly; usually katana, wakizashi, or a staff. She can also create firearms of varying types and sizes, though making such items takes time. She has been practicing making katana lately, focusing on making a harder, stronger sword with a blade whose edge is a single molecule thick...that should get through Jane's armor...

Powers: All of Makoto's powers come from the nanites she created as her greatest breakthrough; refined over the years, and which now infest her body. The nanites are microscopic, the smallest at nearly the atomic level, machines capable of interacting with, disassembling, and reassembling matter at the molecular level.

The primary use of them is construction; to make weapons, armor, bridges over gaps, walls to cut off enemies or provide cover for allies, stairs or a ladder sprouting from the side of a building to ascent it, and so on. Simple items of simple materials can be created in the time it takes to blink but the larger, more complex, or more complicated the compounds, the longer the item takes to build. She can make advanced and high tech weapons, structures, even vehicles, but these take time. The nanites can operate on any inorganic matter, plant matter, and Makoto's own body. She has them hardwired not to be able to effect any other organic matter. Though she thinks she could make them if she really wanted to...but regards that as both highly dangerous and unethical. The nanites were once kept in storage units in her costume and spread using the air cannons but now she spreads them through physical contact. The nanites can disassemble as well as assemble, taking apart enemy weapons into pieces or more dramatically turn them into air or paper.

Since her transformation, she no longer needs the control crown of her costume to guide the nanites, doing so with her mere thoughts and instincts. They rebuilt her body and infest it and as such, they can repair damage she receives to give her a healing factor. They also neutralize any toxins/poisons/diseases/harmful substances she ingests/touches, etc.

The nanites ability to manipulate her body also gives her a limited degree of shape changing; she can alter her appearance to resemble other people. She can change skin tone, eye and hair color, height, facial features, figure, and so on. She can take on male forms and even make herself a blend of both. She is limited by her mass, however. She cannot take on a form that has more mass than she does; she could never take John Smith's shape, for instance. She also can only take "standard" human forms as this ability is limited by the nanites programming and her own psychology. She could never shapeshift Siren's wings or Lillian's horns and hooves as those are not human features.

Her powers are not without their limits. The nanites building does take time and while making a sword or a staircase takes a few heartbeats, making a turret could take up to a full minute, an eternity in combat. She also must either have memorized a schematic or have one accessible to mentally feed to the nanites, which is why her costume's onboard computer has a library of them. The nanites also cannot create from nothing; they must use available matter. Though this does include air, it can also limit the practical application of their constructing ability. She also has made sure they cannot effect anything living other than plants and herself as mentioned above. This means they also cannot make organic matter (thought they could make something that looked like it was).

The nanites are also tiny robots and though it is difficult to attack and destroy them (even an area attack would leave a great number remaining due to their vast numbers), they are vulnerable to magnetic forces. An EMP in particular would knock them offline and stop whatever they had been doing. A strong enough EMP could even destroy all of them in Makoto's body and render her powerless until the back ups kept inactive along her spine created enough other nanites to be useful.

Her healing factor is strong but it can be overrated by sudden or sufficient trauma; she can be knocked out, though it can be tough keeping her unconscious for long. Similarly a strong enough poison could effect her but it would have to be administered continuously to prevent the nanites from neutralizing it. A swift enough attack with enough force could kill her either through simple destroying her body outright or by destroying her brain. This might cause the nanites to go wild though, which could be...interesting.

She also has no particular defense against psychic abilities like telepathy or mind control beyond her intellect and will. If someone were to gain control of her mind, they would also gain control of the nanites.

Background

Background: Umizu Makoto was born the only son of a mid-level tech manager and a high school nurse. He demonstrated a keen intellect young and studied voraciously in school and out of it, graduating high school and going into college early. When his classmates were graduating with their Bachelor's degrees, he was finishing up his first doctoral thesis.

Despite or perhaps in part because of his status as a prodigy, Makoto never made many friends or connections beyond the casual. He rarely felt comfortable around others, or even in his own skin. There was always something...off. In particular, Makoto was conflicted when it came to sex and physical intimacy. He was attracted to women, but also to men, and engaging with either was good but still didn't feel right, somehow. Something about it was wrong.

Makoto burst onto the scene as a brilliant inventor and engineer; creating and refining many designs of robots for practical purposes. His creations were advanced and complex (though he kept them well away from anything resembling artificial intelligence or heuristic systems) and Japan now leads the world in robotics. He also made practical medical nanotechnology a reality allowing for surgery with microscopic precision and first aid that could save patients that would have been hopeless before; the medical nanotech the Defenders use is his work. He helped to spark a technological renaissance in Japan.

Makoto was very careful to build his designs and program the nanites used for this work very rigidly and built in numerous safeguards to ensure they could neither be stolen nor put to harmful purposes. His most advanced nanites, however, he kept secret. Their capabilities were too much, too dangerous, for any nation, for humanity, to have.

Then a group of zaibatsu backed yakuza kidnapped his parents. Fearing to go to the police, Makoto took inspiration from the anime, manga, and the newly formed Defenders to rescue them himself. Using the nanites he had kept secret and a costume of his own making, he thwarted the criminals and exposed their big business backers as Kuroari, the Black Ant, taking the name due to the insects legendary skill as builders.

The Defenders came calling soon and Makoto joined them with pride, quickly becoming one of the most prominent Japanese heroes, though he was far from the only one. He helped build and design much of the Defenders equipment and facilities as well as participate in research and field missions. He was primary part of Overwatch but participated in missions with Ecowatch as well, and one or two Blackwatch missions (he was along only for insertion/recovery of the actual Blackwatch team).

His time in the Defenders was the best time of Makoto's life. He was challenged intellectually and physically, surrounded with amazing and luminary people, and part of something truly world altering, making life genuinely better for billions of people. It was here that he made true friends for the first time, even had lovers. It was also during this time that Makoto faced a truth that the young hero was not ready for. During an encounter with a wild magical relic (Makoto HATES magic and other supernatural nonsense) that forced people to see and know the Truth about themselves, the reason behind Makoto's lifelong discomfort was revealed. She was transgender; born a boy, but a woman in mind and spirit. Makoto was unprepared for this truth and tried hard to ignore it but once she knew, it clicked in her.

How it might have worked out given time will never be known. The downfall of the Defenders began and Makoto stayed with the team to the end. She was present at the final battle with the Syndicate and it was then that she changed forever. Already injured in battle, Makoto came face to face with Jane Smith. The two battled and though Makoto did well, being already hurt left the outcome in little doubt. Her telekinetic might broke the hero's body; snapping bones and bursting organs. She left him dying to seek out John. As Makoto's life slipped away, the reservations and illusions in her mind fell away. She accepted herself as trans and wished she had a chance to be who she wanted to be, to live life more fully, if only.

Somehow, the nanites heard. Makoto isn't sure how it happened to this day but in the fighting and the damage done to the suit and her body, the function of the control crown was merged with her mind. The billions of microscopic machines were all over due to the ruptured storage of her costume and freed from their constraints by her dying desires, they sank into her body and began to repair and remake it.

Makoto awoke three days later in a coffin. Freeing herself using the nanites, she realized almost immediately that her body had changed. Using the nanites to make a mirror, she looked and saw a beautiful and busty girl staring back at her in awe. The nanites had rebuilt her into the woman she was supposed to be. Dazed, frightened, and elated all at once, she used her new powers to make a facsimile of her old body in the coffin and slipped out of the morgue and into the night.

Umizu Makoto, Kuroari, the Black Ant, was given a hero's funeral in his homeland. His name adorns his family's grave and a statue has been erected in his honor in his native Toyama. Celebrity crazy Japan never abandoned its' heroes the way the rest of the world has, and he remains honored and upheld as an example. His will set up numerous scholarships and a research foundation in his name, as well as ensuring his parents would be well taken care of.

A few days after the funeral there was a break in at a number of government offices. The matter was confusing; someone had clearly entered and exited but it was impossible to tell how they had done so. And nothing seemed to be missing, damaged, or altered. None of the investigators noticed the documents and computer records that hadn't existed before for a young woman named Tansui Makoto.

She lived for a time on the streets for a week or so and for tired of it, But she'd need money to get an apartment or a house or anything else, really. And since she had no real background or references/work experience that could face fact checking, she only had one option. Not whoring, you dirty minded reader, you! Stealing! Using the nanites, she broke into a number of yakuza banks, gambling dens, and brothels, stealing a small fortune from the gangsters and leaving them utterly in the dark as to how it happened.

Makoto set herself up in the eclectic and eccentric Daikanyama neighborhood of Tokyo and went about the business of living. It was awkward and difficult at first, but she made herself meet people, go do clubs, dance, flirt, even hook up with men and women both! And it was good, so much better than before! Now that her body matched her spirit, it was just...right. She even got a job as a waitress and hostess at one of the many themed restaurants that featured attractive female employees wearing various costumes.

But her new exploration of life, her job, her new friends (including those with benefits), grew boring in time. Her intellect needed challenged and her new life lacked the raw thrill of being a hero. So she re-made her old costume, with a few tweaks, and a little less than a year ago, the first story broke of a new Kuroari fighting crime and saving lives in Tokyo. In the three brief interviews she has given, Makoto has claimed she is the secret protege of the "original" Kuroari. Her identity remains secret, most thinking the new Black Ant is probably Makoto's old girlfriend/childhood friend from before the transformation.

With the news of the Defenders return, the leaked footage, and the hack of the Watch Dogs, Makoto now feels conflicted. She was desperately to join them, to see her old friends again, to be a hero on a global scale again! But she is also afraid. What if they find out? She does look like a female relative of her old self. And if her DNA was tested, it would match except for the XX chromosomes. But if they reach out to her...she knows she couldn't say no.

Background: Zuya was delivered by a midwife in the town of Wood Mountain, and is one of the few registered band members of the Wood Mountain Reserve. Raised by her maternal grandmother, Zuya was a driven child. Zuya graduated high school at the age of sixteen, and by the age of eighteen had earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice. From there, she joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Zuya demonstrated both a skill with languages as well as being able to adapt to different situations, which got her posted to the Mounties' intelligence division. From there, Zuya found herself being assigned to special situations. Technically, Zuya is currently on detached duty, serving in a special branch of the UN's Support Mission Division, serving as a liaison between the United Nations and the newly constituted Defenders. In reality, her job is to keep an eye on the Defenders and to act as an unofficial conduit between the Defenders and security and intelligence agencies around the world.

Mental Issues: Body Dysmorphic Disorder; he has far more precedent for it than most. Incapable of percieving himself as attractive.

Enforced Courtesy; Danior is psychologically incapable of being impolite.

Vitae Addiction; vitae, as Danior explains it, is the runoff of the soul when the body expires, and he is capable of absorbing some amount of it when he kills someone at close range. He is addicted to this sensation and murders at least twice a week to sustain this addiction.

Compulsion Override; any effect that allows another to touch Danior's mind ends violently and abruptly, frequently with heavy physical injuries or enforced coma. Most psychic abilities used in his vicinity will fail and carry incrementally increasing risks of triggering an override.

Injuries: The visible half of Danior's body cannot be harmed permanently. Wounds dealt to CALIBAN are, due to its nature, imperceptible, though it has been harmed before.

Goals: Danior has implied, in the past, that there are other beings like him; his objectives, where he has bothered to answer questions about them, seem to be the prevention of their entry to the world. Aside from that, he seems quite satisfied wandering the globe, occasionally killing people and sparring with the Defenders whenever they show up (they would use a different word).

Aspirations: Danior has what he wants.

Personality: Continuously polite, Danior is actually quite pleasant to speak to, and it's not unusual for him to walk out of a tense situation because no one believes that someone so nice could actually be one of the most violent things on the planet. As the man himself puts it though, he seperates his personal and professional lives, and does not permit them to mix.

Subtly sardonic, with a well-watered sense of cynicism, Danior likes to offer advice to those he's met, treating himself as some kind of spiritual guide for his fellow men and women. He has no ego to speak of and is quite difficult to offend, though deliberate stupidity will do it, and flirts harmlessly to make people more confident very often, though he never follows through due to his dysmorphia.

When engaged in "combat", Danior doesn't speak, but the chilling vocalizations that emerge from the dark are chilling enough in their implications. He does not speak on his nature, but smiles when it is brought up, and politely changes the subject.

Skills: Danior is an excellent cook, and likes to win arguments, which he usually does. On the few times his human projection has been brought to battle, he has displayed impressive bare-handed skills, but rarely chooses to strike, instead preferring throws and locks that force his foes to turn away - all he needs is a split-second.

Weapons: Danior doesn't use weapons, and if CALIBAN uses weapons, no one knows.


POWER: The Shadow of Man / CALIBAN

"Danior", as he is commonly addressed, does not apparently exist, and is the unassuming camoflauge of whatever is actually one of the most brutal enemies of the Defenders. When directly viewed by a human-level sentience, Danior continues to appear as a mildly attractive man, but when not directly percieved by sight he acts as something codenamed CALIBAN.

CALIBAN is incredibly lethal, and due to its unperceptible nature is extremely difficult to accurately measure. It is freakishly strong, however, and bears a quadruple set of claws that can shear through almost anything. Likewise, its movement is unnatural and bears no relation to actual distance, as Danior can freely move to anywhere not directly within sight apparently instantaneously.

CALIBAN can be heard and smelt, though; it is often described as smelling like stagnant water or crusted blood, natural gas or dying things. In a fight it continuously mutters in an octave too low to understand, a low, droning snarl that drags on and against the ear.

Danior himself seems to be impervious to long-term damage. He can be shot, killed, torn apart, even entirely disintegrated, but it never does more than cause CALIBAN to retreat, and soon enough Danior will show up again, unbothered by his latest violent death.

The only way to deal lasting damage to CALIBAN is to strike it directly, but that is a difficult proposition at best, and stunningly dangerous.

Unmanned surveillance does not record CALIBAN whatsover, only Danior, but completely fails to prevent it from acting - coming across as a gamut of poltergeist effects.

Under no circumstances is any Defender to engage Danior in a lightless area.


BACKGROUND:


Danior was an average, unremarkable child to a single mother, a psychologist, in the quiet hamlet of Abbeystead. In his words, nothing of note happened until he trekked to the nearby hill of Wolfhole Crag out of curiosity at the age of eleven.

Whatever happened there, he came back with Caliban (or did it come back with him?) and his adolescence and early adulthood were studded with spectacular bouts of violence, despite his maturity and kindness. The episodes were linked to him despite a lack of evidence - he tended to be in the area and knew far too much to be entirely innocent - and was impounded in HM Aylesbury, a Young Offenders prison while authorities debated what to do with him.

Shinar is one of the few non-Defenders who knows that Lynx is actually a member of a separate species. Shinar has tried to find Lynx's homeland, but to no avail. Shinar also knows Lynx uses holographic technology to appear human, and Shinar has been able to duplicate this technology for her own purposes.

Though Shinar has demonstrated no superhuman abilities, she does have stealth and tracking abilities that border on the preternatural, She has access to advanced technologies, has shown she is an athlete of Olympic-caliber, is adept at different styles of martial arts, and is markswoman of the highest caliber. She has a custom made crossbow that she is especially adept with, but is reserved for her hunting trips in Patagonia.

In addition, either through learned techniques or some other method, Shinar is immune to telepathic and mind control attacks.

Like Athena, Shinar appeared full blown on the private, assassin-for-hire circuit. There have been several rumors about her background and her connections, but none have been confirmed. Erotisi's behavior can best be described as erratic and inconsistent. Her moods can change on the proverbial dime. If something even mildly interests, her, however, she can be unnervingly focused on the subject of her curiosity. Her primary goals in her existence are to either find a way to end her existence, or to find someone like herself, and she will become homicidally outraged if she is misled in the pursuit of either of her goals. She tends to blend truth and exaggeration with equal ease, can retell an event one minute and forget that it happened the next. She has met several heroes with different powers and abilities over the millennia, and so will not necessarily be impressed with new super powered beings she comes in contact, though she will have an interest in them.

POWERS AND SKILLS

Simply put, no attack will work on Erotisi, unless she wishes for it to. And then it only works for as long as she wishes it to. This includes telepathic attacks, possessions and the like, though it should be noted she usually allows an entity to possess her, pretending sexual intercourse is happening, before unceremoniously ejecting the possessing entity. Erotosi can manipulate her own reality, i.e., make herself stronger, weaker, invisible, etc., and seems to be able to manipulate reality around her. However, she cannot directly change another being's nature, although if this is a real limit or a self-imposed one, no one is sure. Erotosi also has to ability to materialize anywhere at will, and is not affected by her environment, unless she chooses to be. But even when she chooses to be, Erotisi remains indestructible.

BACKGROUND

No one is quite sure of Erotisi's origin, including Erotisi herself (though she is willing to submit to the willing and unwilling listener alike several often contradictory theories). Erotisi is thought to be at least 7400 years old, as items found in the excavation of the Sumerian city Eridu seem to reference her. Erotisi herself has claimed to have ruled in ancient times, mentioning mythical cities like Atlantis and Mu, before she grew bored with power and sought other interests.

According to Erotisi, she has traveled to several different dimensions, in search for one of two things: a being like herself, or an end to her existence. The last sighting of Erotosi was in the late nineteenth century, and it is said that no less a personage than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle posed a question to her that made her retreat to somewhere while she pondered it.

BACKGROUND

Alejandra was raised by her grandmother, who died during a home invasion when Alejandra was eleven. Alejandra had several bad experiences in group homes and with foster parents in the following years. BACKGROUND

Background:

Once upon a time a man and a woman fell in love

While this story happens around the world every day, this one was special. The man was a white man born into a noble house that had long since operated for a secret organization. The woman was Native American a warrior from her village who has reason to work with the man. Their worlds could not have been more opposite to one another.

Yet great love was born

Through that love Raton came kicking and screaming into the world. A strong baby from birth he was celebrated and loved by the people in the village and by mother and father.

But the pair still had work to do

Of course this was where race and tradition came to a head. Father wanted Raton to go back to his grandparents to learn the ways of the order and grow up as its agent. Mother wanted similar but Mother also knew what such a education would do to young Raton. He needed to know where he came from on both sides Mother argued.

An agreement was made and through that agreement Raton was raised in the village and then attended schooling by the Fathers grandparents who moved to the states to take on the job.

And through love and warmth two people and two cultures who could not be more different came as one. While the grandparents never stepped in the village nor the villagers out Raton was loved and ultimately taught by both parties. Mother and Father were around as much as possible teaching loving and being the best family they could be.

And tragedy never struck

Oh there were scrapes and bruises close calls and hard ships but the family never lost one another. Father was eventually forced to retire his time in the field giving way as old age led him to teach the next generation. Mother operated for a while longer but then it was decided she would join Father in a foreign land to help him.

Raton was an adult then having trained and discovered his powers. He became an operator in the field but eventually his newest culture that of some one with powers led him to be an outsider. Raton had known it was coming and given his life and his unique origins decided he was now to find a new family.

This time of powered people

The omni war was already done but Dorian soon found a new world and family in the defenders. Part of the blackwatch he worked with his old order and helped keep the world safe from threats unseen. When the time finally came for it to be disbanded he was one of the fews who decided to say no and ultimately it was his field work and Johns direction that led him to being captured by Jane.

Skills: Cody is an excellent athlete, a former Olympic hopeful for the decathlon, and despite the last few years, he's maintained his shape and form. He trained in hand to hand combat while in the Defenders and has become a skilled brawler. Despite not having formal training, he is very good at the application of force and strength when it comes to balancing, lifting, leverage and other practical uses. He's streetwise and is adept at a number of criminal skills like lockpicking, hotwiring, and the like. He's familiar with infiltration tactics and military style operations from his time with the Defenders and learned how to pilot aircraft as well.

Weapons: None carried; though he will use whatever is around.

Powers: Cody's powers have made scientists throw their hands up in disgust ever since they manifested. They make no sense; the things he does should be impossible.

He has a resistance to environment temperature and effects; he's comfortable in a temperature ranges from 150 degrees to 150 degrees below zero in his normal clothes or even if completely nude, suffering no ill effects. Heavy wind and rain do not blind or impair him and he could sit down in a poison ivy patch and walk away perfectly fine. However, this gives him no protection against effects directed against him. If someone took poison ivy and rubbed it on him, it would effect him. If a storm were generated by someone, it would hinder him. If someone threw a cold blast or hit him with heat vision, it would effect him. It is only if the condition does not have a sentient will behind it that it is ineffective.

Similarly, in addition to his superhuman durability (discussed below), he is extremely resilient against surprise attacks. Any attempt to injury him that he is not aware of does no harm. He's been shot in the head by at least five snipers and it was as if someone had thrown a wad of paper at him from a few feet away. A car bomb went off under him and he walked out of the wreckage with burned and shredded clothes but not a scratch otherwise. This is only if he is unaware of the attack; if he knows it's coming or even suspects it, the attack functions as normal.

Cody has super human strength roughly equivalent to that of an adult male gorilla at his normal size and is resilient to injury similar to chain mail. His most well known power, however, is his ability to grow to gigantic height, topping out at just over 80 feet. His strength and durability both increase as his size does to make him into a true power house. Unlike in movies or television, being giant doesn't make him slow; he moves and reacts just as quickly as he does at normal size and actually covers ground much faster given his longer stride. He is not physically stronger than John Smith but his greater mass and leverage often allow him to do things with less effort than it would take John. His giant form doesn't behave right; he shouldn't be able to support his own weight for one. For another, he should break through streets, collapse bridges, and cause buildings to crack and shift just walking around...but he doesn't. Only if it is specifically called out or part of plan of attack against him will a surface give way under his weight. This also goes for any surface he thinks of as being too weak or unstable to support him but if he thinks it should support him, it does.

Scientists hate him.

Background

Background: Cody Flanagan was born to a single mother, Eileen Flanagan, exactly ten months after the college freshman returned from a trip to her family's native Ireland. Her very conservative and religious parents threw her out. Cody grew up in the poor part of the city, his mother working as a waitress as her first job, a stripper at nights, and whoring herself to certain clients as circumstance needed her to do. She had a number of boyfriends but never married; some of them were abusive, some were okay, some were great guys who moved on when it became clear that Eileen would never marry them. When asked, she would just say that Cody's father had promised to marry her and she was waiting for that day.

Often alone, even when he was too young to be, Cody resented his mother when he was younger but as a teen came to understand she was doing the best she could for the both of them. Nevertheless, he resolved at a young age that he would never live the life she did. He would be famous and rich; not ignored, used, and poor. His impressionable young mind fixed on The Olympics; that's how he would get out. He would be an Olympian; an ideal given flesh and the pride of his country, bringing home the gold! He chose the decathlon because of the title granted to its winner; World's Greatest Athlete. A naturally talented athlete himself, Cody trained himself with that goal in mind; to be the best in the world, recognized by all.

That dream died when he was cornered after a workout by a group of other boys when he was sixteen. Each of them had their own reasons for not wanting the white trash punk competing against them. Cody had been in plenty of fights growing up in his neighborhood but five against one means an ass kicking for you no matter what. He roared at them to back off, to leave him alone. When they laughed and asked him why, he felt a strange surge in his blood and a ringing in his ears. As the words, "Because I'm bigger than you," burst from his lips, he grew to twenty feet tall, reaching out to grab two of his harassers bodily and haul them up into the air. Looking back on it, he now thinks he should have killed them. That way he'd have been a villain right out of the gate and none of the rest of it would have happened.

His new powers meant he was automatically disqualified from ever becoming an Olympian. But they opened other doors and he soon found himself part of the Defenders. For Cody, it was a second chance to be a famous hero and he jumped at it. He took his code name from his earliest memory; four years old at the Field's Natural History Museum in Chicago and spending an hour just staring at the complete mastodon skeleton there, in awe that anything could be so big.

While he did intend to do good and save people as a Defender, he was aggressive about being in the spotlight and doing dramatic things. Cody's brashness and glory seeking caused friction with his teammates. In particular, he was constantly butting heads with Commander John Smith. Cody felt the older man was jealous and afraid that the American was stronger than he was and began to think of John as a rival, even an enemy. His other colleagues chided or argued with him frequently as well. In the midst of this, his mother vanished.

Eileen Flanagan had asked her son for help with something special. She wanted to go Ireland again; more than happy to give her something that meant so much to her, Cody gave her the money. She went and on her 41st birthday, disappeared. Some say that Cody's father kept his promise and married her, taking her to be young again and live forever in some faerie land. Most say she threw herself into the sea. Whatever the truth is, it hit Cody hard. He'd never told her anything; how much he loved her or appreciated all the sacrifices she'd name, all that she'd done for him. And now he never would be able to.

His work in the field deteriorated and he was sidelined after a blow up with John Smith that actually came to blows and flattened a (thankfully) abandoned industrial park. It was at this low point that he was approached by Jane Smith (she was better at concealing her madness then) to become her informant and betray the team. To his eternal regret, he agreed.

Now he's part of the Syndicate and hates it. He thought it would be a path to wealth, full of skilled criminals and glamorous, high profile capers. Instead it's a lunatic asylum led by the craziest fucker of all of them, a cult of personality that somehow makes enough money and connections to survive and thrive. Cody is an enforcer for the group, on a large scale. He generally deals with criminal or military elements that are resistant to Syndicate influence or goals; stomping out (literally in some cases) gangs and militias that oppose them. He is a blunt instrument of mass destruction in their arsenal. Sometimes he feels good about his work; he's killed some seriously evil mother fuckers to clear the way for Jane's plans. Most of the time though, it doesn't matter.

Cody regrets his choices and his life but also accepts them. Regretting what he did doesn't change it. People died, people he knew and was friends with, because of what he did. He's a bad guy now. He chose a side and it was the wrong side but he's there now and there's no going back. Even if he did try, what would be the point? There's no forgiving what happened. He gets up, puts his head down, and just goes on living, going where he's told and doing what he has to, quietly mitigating and trying to prevent civilian loss of life along the way. Now that the Defenders have returned, he's both afraid and excited to face them.

They also give him a desperate hope; maybe they'll kill him and put him out of everyone's misery. And hey, maybe he'll fall on John, wouldn't that be funny? The big man having to muscle his way out from under Cody's gigantic dead ass. Ha!

Goals / Aspirations: Jagd has long since made peace with his lack of aspirations. He lacks the long-term capability to want anything for such a prolonged period of time; everything fades back to grey for him soon enough, so he just focuses on the next job, the next paycheck, and the next day. It's enough.

Personality: Jagd is very - flat. His range of expression and intonation is almost nil, and his odd, staggering speech makes inflecting mood through that an even more difficult endeavor, even if you manage to catch him out of his relentlessly serious demeanor. He has an astonishingly dry sense of humor, but rarely cares enough to display it.

On the job, he is, perhaps, the perfect teammate, a consummate professional in the field, coordinating team positions and firepower with exacting focus. A long and medaled history has led him to loathe stains on his record, so he endeavors to bring all of his allies back to base safely - one saved is another gun on the next battlefield. Skills: A PMC since fourteen in a dying Slavic town, Jagd is one of the most decorated and lethal soldiers alive. If it relates to the killing of a human being, he understands it at an intrinsic level, and body kinesthetics are built into him at the molecular level. Everywhere else, he's incompetent, but in this one area, Jagd towers.

Outside of a fight, he's clumsy and awkward in speech, but the closer he gets to that adrenaline rush, the more exacting and coordinated he gets, adrenaline flushing his system and recoordinating his body to the impossible agility of his mind.

Weapons: Jagd tends to prefer an AsH 12.7 mm loaded with custom-ordered Mk 207 Raufoss rounds, a high-performance Russian semiauto rifle with heavy penetrating rounds that can punch through a half-inch of steel and release an incendiary penetrator past it. He also packs a range of grenades and a steel-honeycomb splitting maul for close- and siege- work, along with the classic K-BAR.

Though he does not carry it on him often due to its weight and cumbersome size, somewhere at a fallback point will be his trump card, a heavy-duty reinforced M2 Browning loaded with Mk 211 Raufoss, the kind of weapon NATO countries use on APCS to cut apart enemy armor. Jagd wields it with a specially-constructed hip mount and generous doses of combat stims, and armed with it either annihilates the enemy or covers his team's retreat with supporting fire.



Power: All Moments

Diagnosed as velocital dischronometria, Jagd has a completely unique perception of time. His unique nervous structure, and the currently unrecognized material forming his myelin sheathes, grants him effectively instant reaction times, much less reflex times. His nerve conduction velocities are effectively infinite; there is no measurable quantity of time in between a stimulus and his processing and reaction to it.

While still constrained by the physical limits of his otherwise mortal body, he is impossible to surprise or catch off guard as a result - always, he has had as long as he wishes to consider, plan, and choose a course of action to whatever his opponents are doing.

As an unfortunate side effect, Jagd experiences time at some unknown magnitude slower than the rest of the human race, but it is at the very least exponential. He has noted it to be "tremendously boring". He also experiences disjointed movement when lacking adrenaline, as his muscles struggle to keep up with the instantaneous communication of his pheriphial nervous system. In a fight, everything aligns in harmony, but outside, he's very close to disabled.



History: Jagd's entire childhood is a complete horror of psychological issues. His power took effect sometime during his first year of life before he even understood what the concept of time was, and the resulting subjective eternity of isolation completely annihilated his personality and individualism, driving him into catatonia.

Two months later he awoke, and experienced the entire process again.

The third time it was boring, and he learned, out of necessity, how to moderate his chronological perspective.

By the time that his parents were murdered in the Lašva Valley ethnic cleansing during his early childhood, Jagd was almost glad for the interruption, and promptly joined the Oružane snage Bosne i Hercegovine, taking part in the Bosnian War that would come to define his identity and life. War soothed the frantic pace of his mind, made the seconds tick less painfully; when it finally ended, he immediately contracted with a PMC and continued his one-man chase of battle elsewhere. By now he has amassed a military portfolio legendary in its length, amount of black ink, and lethality.

His relationship with Mother Russia is both cordial and professional; the villainess has provided much of his work for the last decade, and Jagd never fails to provide her with useful recon and results. With the recent failures of her troupe of subordinates, she has called on his contract again, bringing the career soldier in on the dark side.

So long as he gets paid, and gets to fight, Jagd doesn't care.

There are two manifestations of her 'fog' powers, though no one outside of the Society (a secret organization that is dedicate to serving Lady Emilia while at the same time keeping any knowledge of her, including her existence, a secret from the world) knows exact details of how these manifestations work. There is the 'minor fog', which appears to be both human sized and (roughly) shaped, that acts on its own volition. 'Minor fog' appears to be immune to normal attacks, such as fists, bullets, etc. though it can be affected by other attacks. It is thought that this form is invoked as a matter of self-defense, emotional distress, etc. Then there is 'major fog', which appears to be immune to all attacks, and drains all heat and energy from everything it touches. There is only one recorded manifestation of 'major fog', in London in 1952, which grew to cover much of the city (and was later explained as the result of pollution, to avoid panic among the populace). What invoked 'major fog', what stopped it, and how many more manifestations there have been, no one knows for sure. It is said 'major fog' simply continues to grow, draining whatever it touches. It is also said that there might be an artifact that can invoke and control 'major fog', though there are supposedly limitations to this control, including how long the control can last.

Lady Emilia has effectively demonstrated her immortality, having successfully survived numerous attempts on her life, apparently unscathed. In addition, she has been reported to be immune to any type of telepathic manipulation.

Background

The eldest daughter of the Fourth Duke of Manchester, she was born in 1773 in Paris, France while her father served as Ambassador. Not much is known about the early life of Lady Emilia. She was reported to be a precocious child, a gifted musician and naturalist, and a natural hostess. Indeed, when her brother became the Fifth Duke of Manchester, she served as his hostess, even after his marriage in 1793.

Then in 1795, she simply disappeared.

The official record is she drowned in a boating accident. The unofficial record...

Lady Emilia became the ward of an organization that would become known simply as the Society in years to come. Although it had been demonstrated time and time again that Lady Emilia was immune to assassination attempts, it appears there was the fear that these attempts might invoke the 'major fog' manifestation. There was also the fear that Lady Emilia might fall under the sway of unscrupulous individuals. Therefore, the Society has spent more than three hundred years keeping Lady Emilia comfortable, hidden and isolated.

Skills: Lisa is a high school graduate who's spent a lot of summers traveling with her parents to archeological digs all over the world; as a result she is very well versed in many cultures and religions, having a great body of knowledge of the world's peoples and places. She has some natural talent at fighting but no real training; she's been getting by on her raw power so far.

Weapons: The Staff of Ra is a powerful weapon. It is incredibly hard and strong, it's limit in supporting weight not yet known. It seems to be indestructible and perfectly balanced. In addition to being a hand to hand weapon, the staff allows Glory to fly by shooting a jet of flame. It can also shoot disk shaped blasts of fire as well as beams of intense sunlight that are essentially lasers. The staff gives Glory the power to control fire as well; dampening or increasing it, controlling where it goes. This is only for natural fire; she cannot control the fire created by someone with powers; fires that their power starts, however, do fall under her purview.

As a last power, the Staff can shrink down from it's normal five foot height to five inches; it can affix to Glory's pectoral at this size.

As a rule, only Glory can use the powers of the staff as she is Ra's champion. A strong enough magic user or other supernatural entity might be able to use it without Ra's permission, however, if it were powerful enough.

Powers: The Glorious Eye of Ra is a physical powerhouse; she is super strong and durable. Her limits have not been tested but she can lift a loaded rail car with little effort and has shrugged off gunfire and been hit by a semi truck without being harmed. The truck scuffed her a little but that was it. Her strength lets her run faster than a normal human, able to run at around 30 miles per hour and sprint up to 90 for short bursts. She can leap about thirty yards from a standstill, 100 if from a running start.

She can breathe and survive in space or underwater and can speak and be heard in both environments, despite this being impossible. Even on top of her super human durability she is extremely resistant to extremes of temperature and pressure.

She can generate sunlight from her body; from warming, cozy spring light to harsh desert sun, generating heat of up to 120 degrees in her immediate area; anything stronger requires use of the Staff of Ra. With it, she can pump out brutal heat going into hundreds of degrees, and maybe into thousands though she hasn't tried to push that far. Without the staff, she can create blinding flashes of sunlight, though these become stronger if she uses the Staff to magnify them.

Ra visits Glory in dreams and visions to give guidance or point her attention at things he wishes her to deal with. During these dreams, she can speak to him and he provides counsel, not that she always likes it.

The Staff of Ra enhances her powers and gives her others but it also is needed to maintain Glory's divine form. If separated from the Staff, she must regain contact with it within a minute or she transforms back into Lisa; who's awesome but doesn't have any powers.

She is notably weaker at night; all of her powers at half strength. During a total solar eclipse, Glory would be utterly powerless. The condition of night is relative; if it's day where she is, she's at full strength, if it's night, she's at half strength. In space, she's at full strength unless fully within the shadow of a planet or on the dark side of the moon, etc.

Background

Background: Lisa Sehkmet Stewart is the daughter of a husband and wife team of archeologists who are based out of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Despite being an American citizen, she was born in Egypt on one of her parents many expeditions. Growing up she spent most of the year in the US but every summer she would join her parents wherever they were in the world. As a result, she grew up with a broader understanding and a more global perspective than most Americans.

While her parents cared for, they tended to be controlling, both at home in the US and when abroad. Lisa pushed back by becoming a bold girl who always pushed at the boundaries set on her.

Shortly after her graduation from high school, Lisa accompanied her parents (and a guy they'd set her up with, ugh) to an opening of an exhibit featuring artifacts they had uncovered in Egypt and northern Sudan. After ditching her date, a college bound football star who felt he "deserved" to get into her panties, Lisa had ducked into one of the galleries and was drawn to one of the artifacts her parents had brought back with them; a golden staff that features the sun disk of Ra. As she admired it, there was a commotion out in the part of the museum. A group of armed men had burst in, seemingly intent on taking hostages, or maybe they were there to kill someone? Lisa never found out. As she heard the sounds of gunfire and she screams, she felt an urge, a need, to reach out and take the staff.

The moment her fingers touched it; she was suddenly in the clouds before a tall, dusky skinned man who was dressed in the style of an ancient pharaoh, adorned with gold, and light and heat poured from him. He spoke and she knew him to be Ra, God of the Sun. He touched her brow and told her to go out into the world, the Eye of Ra walking among men again to deliver justice and smite the wicked.

She transformed into the Glorious Eye of Ra; a tall, strong, Amazonian beauty bedecked in the riches and raiment of the sun god. She assaulted the shocked gunmen, taking them down easily with her new powers. Since that night, she's taken to being a hero in Philadelphia, publicly and openly taking down gangs big and small. She's busted human trafficking rings and arms dealers alike, all with the subtlety of a freight train. Glory has only fought a few super human opponents but has mattered to win so far, her tremendous power seeing her through.

Despite her cockiness, she's aware pride comes before a fall and that power and luck are only going to take her so far. She needs some instruction and could use come back up.

BACKGROUND

Background:

Eight years ago Copenhagen was a war zone

The OMNI war was in full force, the machines had rebelled decided that humans were impure and needed to be eliminated. The defenders were fighting the good fight and at the time were pushing the OMNI forces back to Austria their main base.

But it had not been without causalities

Two of those were the parents of Adiyna who were killed during a skirmish in the area. Adiyna was forced onto the street with the other refugees as they fought over supplies and rapidly dwindling space.

Adiyna became a dancer as she had the body for such and was willing. She made side money by repairing and fixing local mechanical items in the town. She managed to make a decent life for her self and even got her self set up in an abandoned factory on the top floor.

And thats where her life changed

One night she awoke to a loud crash in the main assembly line. She raced out and found that an OMNI mech had crashed through the roof. Adiyna unable to help her self when it came to mechanical things approached it curious about it despite it having killed her family.

And then it activated

Thinking the end was going to come she waited however it didnt. Instead she was met by a curious almost child like OMNI Mech. She tried to provok it but after getting no response she was forced to admit that the crash and battle had some how changed its A.I

And so began an interesting friendship

Adiyna repaired him made him better than new and he grew attached to her taking care of and looking out for her. The people in the town largely distrusted him at first but after a few good acts and helping out they came to accept him.

Adiyna taught him how to fight again and together they protected a recovering Copenhagan from bandits and other people looking to take advantage. Neither of them let the past hurt them and now with the defenders back in full force they see it as the chance to repay the past horrors of the war.

Background: Anais Sophia van der Stanton is the only daughter of German business tycoon Leopold van der Stanton and his Spanish-Middle Eastern Wife Layla Veliz. BACKGROUND

Background:
Katya was born and raised in St. Petersburg Russia by her loving parents. Her parents had been childhood playmates who had grown up together before eventually falling in love and getting married despite the fact that her father was a super and her mother was not.

Her father had also been a Defender before his tragic death during one of the battles of the OMNI war 10 years ago. He had similar powers to Katya’s and went by the alias of “Solar Flare”. Determined to honor his memory and live up to his legacy, Katya began training with the Defenders when she was still just a teenager.

During the Defenders’ last battle with the Syndicate five years ago Katya was shot down midflight by a powerful explosion while engaged in combat. She was presumed dead, but had actually been captured and turned into a cyborg by the Syndicate. This procedure saved her life, but its true purpose was to turn her into a weapon for the Syndicate.

Her human emotions and memories have been blocked from her with programming to make her more machine like and easier to control, and she has currently been placed as Raton’s guard at the compound where he is being held captive.

Background: Born to a poor english family Zach grew up wanting nothing more than to escape his drab dreary life. He did every thing he could to find a way out however nothing ever grabbed his attention until the magician came to town.

The magician was a man who regularly visited the villages he earned little coin from them and primarily did it for entertaining the children. It was there Zach's love of magic flourished. BACKGROUND

Background:

Livia was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland. She has three older brothers, and was raised by an independent single mother. She excelled academically, but was never very social despite her mother’s best efforts. When she was in high school she was sucked into Switzerland’s heavy Graffiti scene by her love of art.

At just Seventeen she was out alone one night, trying to create a burner(or a large piece) on an institute wall in Geneva when a Particle Accelerator exploded almost directly under her. The injuries she sustained were mostly broken limbs, and some surface skim wounds( with several small areas on her lower body that had to be grafted).

When she recovered enough to leave the hospital she discovered her abilities. She was once again out trying to bomb smaller pieces around town when she was spotted by the police. As she ran, her level of anxiety caused her now mutated DNA to shrink her atoms until they were subatomic. Instead of this making her shrink, it made her invisible. The moment she turned invisible, she heard a voice in her head that referred to itself as “Us.”

This voice encouraged her to practice her powers, and gain strength. The voice also encouraged her to try to test the limits of her powers, and one night she successfully was able to split the atoms in her body equally created two smaller versions of herself. The “Us” inside of her head. When she Split(as she called it) she was no longer herself personality wise. Instead of the “Us” voice inside her head, she was now the voice inside her head. She was stuck like this for months, as the Twins(her affectionate name for them) were more powerful separated from her.

When she was finally able to regain herself, and put her atoms back to normal she realized that she had to use her new found powers for good or the Twins persuasion would over power her. Though the Twins were the opposite of her personality, their thoughts and actions seem to be connected to her inner thought and inner needs that she would never communicate out loud.

Powers: Aarons powers are different from most and how they effect different people and their orgin is still some thing being tested/figured out

At a basic level he gives off a pheremone/ mental "scent" that gives people the desire to fufill their base desires

As an example he can make people holding back their anger more angry and liable to explode

He can make reserved people secretly wanting to be more out going through caution to the wind

And so on and so forth

The basic "need" grows more and more until they simply HAVE to give in to it. Once they do there is no going back until he "turns" it off. At first he couldnt turn it off but with time and training he has been able to focus it and control who it effects to an extent (though it can some times backcharge).

Now who this effects and how it effects them depends on a number of things people with strong will and or strong reservations have to be worked harder. Mental powers can also block this effect.

BACKGROUND

Background: Born and raised in the slums of Moscow Aaron has always been on his own in some way or the other. He was born in an orphanage but he like most kids were tossed out once they turned sixteen from there he made himself a name in the Moscow underground. He stayed there for another year before he disappeared completely and went off the map.

When he came back he was Anarchy leader of a small militia type gang. He swept through the underground recruiting young members and lads and bolstering him. His power wasnt immediately known not until police reports came in revealing the police he were engaging were attacking violently and or running off the true source of his power is unknown and no one has yet to study him. Syndicate has offered him a position several time but he has declined stating they are as much an enemy as the government.

BACKGROUND

Background: Followimg in his father's footsteps, Norio became an operative of 赤葉盟, Shaku You Mei, or the "Red Leaf Alliance". The RLA is an underground terrorist and human trafficking organization based in the tenets of Doomsday Cultism. It is the belief of RLA members that one is either the propagator of chaos on earth, or a victim of it.

The members of Shakuyoumei or RLA believe that they are Gods of Destruction and chaos imprisoned in humanoid bodies. In order to free themselves to take their true forms, they must each spill the blood of 100 people in ritualistic sacrifices.

The Defenders are considered a threat to the RLA's activities, and thus it must be destroyed, in Norio's eyes an those of Shakuyoumei as a whole. Norio seeks to carry out his orders to obtain information about the Defenders so that the RLA can snuff them out completely.

That means that at his most basic he can control these elements and bend them to his will. He can create and control wind, blast fire out of his hands, move the very earth, and finally control the water. He has practiced and studied these powers for most of his life and he is more or less a master of them. (Though some advanced techniques and his own limits are still being explored).

So far he has been able to shoot electricity with his fire and can swipe the air out of the water (though this takes a lot of concentration) air is his natural element (as his religion and his own mental state centers on it) while earth is much harder for him.

BACKGROUND

Background:

Aaron was born in the monastery of the southern air temple. From the beginning of his life he was thought to be special. He had a strong cry and his eyes had a warmth and knowledge unique to babies. Even so however he was weak frail even, most did not think he would make it and even though he was cared for it was hard to see him.

But then a miracle occurred

He was being tended to under the moon when it happened. They were outside by a small fountain. He was upset and as he flailed his arms the fountain began to shake. The water pulled twisting up into the air and forming into a ball. The element of earth was next crumbling from tile as wind joined it. The monks were shocked to see the baby let out a burst of fire from his mouth as well which joined the other elements floating above him. They twirled above him before connecting morphing into one big ball of energy that cascaded back into his body. The elements healed him and just like that Aaron went from being weak to a strong healthy baby.

A baby that was chosen for great things

The monks conferred with his parents and they were brought to the elders at the top of the Southern Air Temple. There he was trained taught at an early age about life nature and his powers. He naturally gravitated to air and to an extend buddhism. Even with his infinity for air the other elements soon fell under his studies. He trained and trained staying removed from the earth as he tried to learn how to save it. Now at 25 he has stepped off of the temple for the first time to travel the world and hear its plight. He is a champion of earth and its people and is just looking for the right organization to help him in this matter.
