Interesting story.

The school is wrong to disallow the flag on the bike unless they allow all flags and similar items on bikes. The restriction cannot be content-based. Upon reflection, the school decided to allow Cody to fly the flag on his bike, so there isn't much more to say. I understand how illegal alien Mexicans might resent being reminded that this is not their country -- the implication being that they are unwelcome. Indeed, for the most part, I suspect that the kids in the school don't treat the Mexicans as unwelcome, this being a middle school. The tension created, which gives rise to the interest in the story is worth of comment: If displaying symbols of American patriotism is a repugnant to the Mexican kids at the school, they are not being assimilated and acculturated into American life. This would be the fault of the school / district / Dept. of Education in California. The kids should learn all about their new country and come to respect its culture and symbols as their own. If they are hostile to that culture and those symbols, they need to repatriate where they would feel more comfortable -- Mexico, for example. The idea of multiculturalism has shown to fail everywhere. The idea is to integrate different people into the American culture -- the melting pot idea. But having a cultural division enforced by the state will inevitably lead to unnecessary confrontation.

It boils down to this: If you are here illegally and don't want to leave, think of America as a Love It Or Leave It place. You have no right to be here, less of a right to tell Americans how we are to teach our students. Become American or go home.

The alternative is worthy of inspection: Since people of different cultures don't seem to be able to meld all that well, maybe the school system should employ a Separate But Equal model, where Mexicans are taught by Mexicans and Americans are taught by Americans.

Moving the frontier to the 23rd parallel would facilitate implementation of that as well.

Being fair wearing a straight pride shirt is something only an unbelievable prick would do. Sure the school should have let them be unbelieveable pricks but lets be honest. Football, Basketball games are practically pro heterosexual RALLYs held weekly. It's the same as whites bitching about black history month ignoring that blacks are hardly mentioned the other eight months.

They really aren't that many that are criminals. Anyway you count it 48k is a small small percentage of 3 million. Double it, triple it, still not that many. The real problems are all the other thigns you mention, the impact on health care, on welfare, on our schools, on our voting.

But it seems that California (and to a lesser extent the country) needs to decide how much we trust the rich. Nobody hires mexicans because they are the better workers I suspect that simply because of the language barrier they are slightly less efficient. They hire them because they work for less money. I personally want to put the government to work just auditing companies with EVerify and putting people in jail for hiring illegals. But having to hire Americans is no different from raising the taxes. Actually it's worse because instead of it coming out of profits this tax will be applied every hour regardless of production, regardless of income.

So do we really trust the companies hiring illegals not to move the jobs to countries with lower wages? It would also be a deterent for me to hire these expensive spoiled entitled Americans. I suppose we could eliminate the minimum wage and let everybody live like those mexicans willing to work for rock bottom wages.
