Democrats are generally more altruistic and responsible at governing, both domestically and in terms of foreign policy. They do, however, tend to be careless with growing a bureaucracy and over-spending. They seek to strike a balance (not always successfully) between reasonable and proper regulation of buisnesses without causing undue financial and regulatory burden on buisnesses. They tend to be more libertarian in terms of individual freedoms- live and let live.
Republicans- TRADITIONAL Republicans, not the shit show running the country today, tend to be about less regulation, lower taxes (for the high income bracket anyway, for the low and middle income brackets, not so much) less about providing for social welfare and more about self sufficiency. They tend to be more hawkish and less isolationist when it comes to foreign policy. They claim to be libertarian in terms of individual freedoms, however over the last 20,30 years the opposite has been true. Today's Republicans tend to want more government intervention in personal choices and less individual freedom, eschewing the concept of live and let live.
