Depravity in the First (Closed)
This Thread is Closed!!!!! Sorry - I just forgot to put it in the title.
"Seleste!" shouted Kelsey from downstairs, as she stomped into their dormitory suite and tossed her backpack onto the dining room table. The girl just ran across campus in the rain and brushed her hair back, simultaneously pulling the scrunchie open and putting it over her soaked ponytail. She didn't hear any response and proceeded to clip and clop in her wedges up the staircase to the second floor. "Seleste?" she called again as she turned down the short hall and into her suitemate's room. She shrugged when she realized the suite was empty and she returned downstairs and fished her phone from her purse, then quickly hacked out a message:
You home this weekend? We have a party to go to.
Kelsey put the phone down and scooted into her own room, where she changed into some khaki shorts and a dry top. She didn't think it was supposed to rain, and was annoyed at getting stuck on campus, especially as she had been talking to Derek, the guy from her Spanish class that she had been chatting up during the first two weeks of class. He had approached her outside the building where they had class, and as the sky began to rumble and flash with the hint of a storm, he told her that there was a weekend party scheduled for Friday until Sunday at his friend's lake cabin. Normally, she wouldn't think of going away for a weekend as a first date, but he mentioned there was a house and a guest house that would hold a number of people, and that she was welcome to bring a guest if she wanted. She immediately thought that if she could get Seleste to go, they could stay in the guest house if they wanted and things would be fine.
She shuffled into the kitchen and grabbed a diet coke, thinking that Seleste must still be in class or stuck on campus corner in the rain, unable to make a dash across campus and avoid the flooded streets and walkways of the campus, which always washed out in even light showers. Kelsey took her drink back to her room, where she planted herself on the bed and thought about Derek. He was cute, but she also knew he had some cute friends. She partied a bit in high school, but now, only a few weeks into her freshman year, Kelsey wanted to get out of town, let down her hair, and simply have a great time without any commitment or obligation. If nothing else, she thought, she and Seleste could drink, lay out on the beach or on a boat, and just lounge in the sun and flirt with boys.
From the other room, she heard the phone ring. Kelsey jumped up and found it quickly. She shrugged, seeing it wasn't her roommate, then answered it anyway.
"Hi daddy," she said, with a smile. "Yeah, it's pouring here, but I'm fine. No, I didn't skip class," she whined a bit, listening to her father nag her from hundreds of miles away. She giggled as he teased her about behaving herself and making sure not to skip class, and then grew quiet as he asked if she would be coming home for the weekend.
"I think Seleste and I may go to the lake. Her parents have a cabin there," she lied, feeling better with her story than telling her dad that his little girl was planning on sleeping away from home with a bunch of boys and a few girls for a weekend surrounded by boats, beers, and bikinis. She knew that he thought of her as innocent and pure, even if that wasn't quite true. In high school, she had generally been a good girl, though she enjoyed partying and the occasional drink. A member of the homecoming court for football season, she had been popular, but never enough to be the queen. Now, away at college, she was enjoying attention from boys, but keeping her options open. She simply didn't need her dad knowing, or being along for every ride. Suddenly, he asked about her new roommate.
"Seleste seems nice, dad," she reported. "I like her. I'm sure it will be fine. Her parents and sisters will be there." She rolled her eyes and felt bad at the same time. She didn't know if Seleste even had sisters. "No, we will be fine. We may not even go. I'll let you know once we decide." She got off the phone quickly, telling her overbearing dad that she loved him, and she did. She then immediately texted her roommate once more:
House at Lake Hodges. Tomorrow. Where are you? Want to?
She wondered where Seleste was, but really just wanted to know that she had a plan for the weekend. She couldn't bear a weekend just hanging around campus. She sent one last text:
Call me, bitch! She put down the phone and smiled to herself, waiting for her roommate to respond, as she returned to her room.
