I see debt and divorce in her future.

It is possible. The oft problem with being a workaholic is that your partner can tend to feel rejected, no longer desired.

Sometimes, it's just the personality type and raising.

I work a lot.

Not because I like money (though I am rather fond of it) or because I like pretty things. I actually don't have pretty things and it's really annoying when people judge what I can afford by what I wear. (My girlfriend's jeweler has learned... unfortunately, my mechanic has not. *sigh*)

I just work a lot.

Well, I'm going to take the contrarian position here: good for your unnamed co-worker! She knows what makes her happy, and she's willing to bust her ass to get it. I certainly can't criticize an attitude like that.

I have no problem with her doing her Overtime for what she wants. The problem I have is her expecting everyone else to want to work and/or live like her.

I tried the massive amounts of overtime. For over a year I worked 72+ hour weeks. I rarely saw my wife and my health went downhill. (Although it did get us out of debt.) After that I promised myself I would never go back to living that way. My work helping people is an important part of my life but it is not the end all of my life. I actually have a life outside of my work.

Increased taxes truly defeat my enthusiasm for overtime. But there are worse things.

Here's a new trend in the healthcare industry: Employees get paid for 40 hours of work but much of the work doesnt count as work. That is, employers exclude meetings and travel time and general clerical tasks as 'work.' If the insurance company or Medicaid wont pay for it, it isnt work. So employees are required to generate a fixed number of billable units per day, and if it takes 12 hours to do it you still get 8 hours of pay.
