I been having a problem with my digital camera. For some reason, all of a sudden, my computer does not communicate with my cam.
Well, i have done just about everything, uninstalled and reinstalled my kodak software, checked BIOS, i even decided to restore my system.
I thought maybe my cam was messed up so i bought another one, still no response, i thought maybe my ports were bad but my printer works just fine.
I dont know what else to do... is there anyway to get around using the USB to download pics to my computer?

kodak has been sucky for that...

does your computer or print have a card reader that will read the cards from your camra, I beleave kodaks use compact flash
my grandmother's had the same problem, flash readers are only about 30$ now so its not to big of a deal to buy one I'd hope

That sounds like a device-driver problem. Removing and reinstalling the Kodak software won't necessarily remove the camera and it's driver from the "device list" in your hardware manager.

As for going around the USB port to download pics, that depends on the specific camera -- some cameras can be accessed through the standard serial ports, but you have to order a different interface cable and load a different driver.

If your camera uses a removeable memory card, you can get a card-readers for internal, external USB), or PMCIA Card connections that bypass the camera software and drivers.

like I said readers are cheap, and if it still doesn't work bring it back the next day

but try going tothe kodak site and grabbing the approprite drivers for your model and trying again

also
it might be a camra setting
somewhere in the options of the camra there should be a USB section, tell it to act as a removeable driver rather than a camra

In your control panel, probably in the System Icon, but you may be able to check and/or replace the camera drivers under a Scanners and Cameras icon -- it depends on your particular version of Windows; and assumes you're not a MAC user.

PS: a different brand of camera might still be made by Kodak, or at least use the same chipsets and drivers as the Kodak.

Probably not, the new camera should have come with a new cable.

But it's a good thought and if she hasn't tried the new camera's cable, she should try it.

Have you tried going under the hardware device manager, to check the status of the port, if so and it seems to be working then check the sw device driver.

What OS are you using? And has there been any recent changes to your system before this happend such as added any hardware or software, of even config changes.

Have you tried plugging it into the usb port that the printer is using?

when you plug the camera in you can right click on my computer, select properties. choose the hardware tab and select device manager. Scroll down and look at the universal serial bus controllers. If you see a yellow ! when the camera is plugged in then there is a driver issue. you can click on the ! and uninstall. reboot . after reboot plug in the camera and load the latest driver.

Also if you plug it into a hub make sure it is plugged in or directly to the back of the PC. sometimes the voltage is too low to activate the USB device.
