Disaster Strikes (closed for beachbum)

Mike made his way toward the hotel. He figured that if there were going to be any survivors that was the best place to look for them. The high ground was the best place to have an opportunity to avoid the flood waters. Once they arrived there, Mike discovered that only the Ground Floor was underwater.

He pulled the boat up to the hotel. "Amber, listen, I am going to go inside and see what I can find. You stay here. I don't know what I will run into inside,so, I want you to be in the boat where it is rarely safe. Do not come in unless I came back here to get you..... is that clear?"

After smashing a window, Mike climbed inside. He tied the boat around the broken window. "Remember what I said. If I do not come back here for you, do not come in, because that means it is not safe." He stared at Amber to make sure she understood, and then winked at her.

Mike discovered that the floor he was on actually contained the hotel lobby. He saw signs in the lobby that told guests that the hotel was closing and that everyone was being evacuated. It also had information on busses that the hotel was providing to help people evacuate. As he moved around, he called out to see if anyone was there. It was eerie. It was like a ghost town.

As he moved around, Mike found the hotel bar and the restaurant. He was certain he could find some supplies in the restaurant and the bar might come in handy to help relieve a little stress.

Amber looked at the hotel as they approached and her heart sank. It sure didnt look like anybody was here. Where the hell were they all? She agreed to stay in the boat, albeit reluctantly. Sighing, she sat back and watched Mike go in, heard him calling for people.

She leaned against the back of the boat. Just as she did, a large limb cracked out of a water soaked tree and fell, landing within inches of the boat. Amber screamed and covered her face, but not fast enough. One of the branches scratched down her face and neck, not bad, but enough to make her bleed.

She reached out and shoved the branch away from the boat, using her sleeve to wipe at her face, deciding it wasnt bad. She glanced at the building and wondered what Mike was doing if there weren't any people in there. Whatever it was, she was sure it was to benefit everybody.

Kelly heard Amber scream, and ran back to the boat to check on her. "What happened? Are you okay?" He looked at her and saw blood on her face and neck. He climbed into the boat. One of the supplies he had grabbed from the sporting goods store was a first aid kit. He took out a couple of gauze pads and cleaned off Amber's cuts. They were not bad. "I think you will live." Mike laughed a little.

"Okay, so I haven't found any people, but I did find the restaurant and the bar. We can fill up the boats with supplies and take them back to the Community College. On the other hand, we could go back and get everyone and bring them back here. There are more floors above the water level."

He sat in the boat and looked at her. "There are advantages to both. If the rescue comes from the ocean, they would find us first at the College. If it comes from land, they might find us here first. Of course, the longer it takes them to find us, the more time I get to spend in your company." He winked at her and smiled.

Mike came hurrying back to the boat after he heard her scream and she laughed as he wiped off the scratches on her face. His touch was tender and gentle, much more intimate than somebody just taking care of an injury.

"Sorry for screaming... it startled me" she said. She listened as he outlined their options. "I think this needs to be your decision. I'm not really sure what the best choice is... My instincts say to come here, higher above the water. Just because we have no idea what's going on out there... which one do you think we have a better chance of getting rescued at?"

His words brought about a sharp pain in her stomach. She hadn't considered that once this was over, she probably would never see him again. That made her sad, which was kind of silly since she barely knew him. But she would love to know him better. She pushed the thought from her head, that was in the future. Right now they needed to focus on the present.

"I am thinking we should come here instead of taking supplies back to the college. I am going to go back inside and continue my sweep to make sure there is nobody inside and to make sure it is safe inside. You stay here and stay away from tree branches." He smiled at her and climbed back into the building.

He started going floor by floor checking for survivors. He was also looking for bodies. He didn't want people walking into rooms and running into a dead body. He worked bottom up and when he got to the top floor he found the honeymoon suite. He found nobody.

When he returned to the boat, he found Amber had suffered no further injuries. They went back to the college and told everyone what they were going to do, then Mike loaded them in the boats and they headed to the hotel. Mike told everyone that they should find a place on the third floor and make it their own. He also told them they should not venture any higher than that unless they let Hulme know and they took someone with him. "Meet in the restaurant in about 30 minutes." Mike started to walk upstairs to find a room.

Amber and Mike went back and collected everybody from the college. Everyone agreed that it was the best plan at the time. They still had no idea what was going on outside of their little world. As they motored back to the hotel, Amber looked around thoughtfully, but didnt say anything until they were back to the hotel.

Mike had gone off to find a space to stay... she wanted to stay with him but didnt want to impose... so she found her own just in case.. then went in search of him.

"Hey " she said as she approached. "Um... did you notice... when we were coming over... the clouds are dark off to the south?"

"Hey Amber. Yea, I saw the, That is why I told everyone to go to the third floor. Even though the water level is only at the Ground Level, I have a feeling it is going to rise higher. We will assess again tomorrow and see if the level has risen." He could not believe that there could possibly be another storm coming. Was this the end of the world? He knew it sounded ridiculous, but the storms were out of control.

He cupped her chin and checked the scrapes on her neck and face. "Your cuts look ok. I think you are going to survive." He smiled at her and released her chin. "I am going to stay down her on the end near the stairs. That way I can tell if anyone tries to go up or down. Did you find a place?"

Mike was wondering if she would be willing to stay with him, but he did not want to say anything about it, because he did not want to put her in an awkward position with her friends and her neighbors. He pointed at the room he had chosen. "That is me right over there."

Amber didn't want to believe that there were any more storms on the horizon either. That was impossible. Three storms was unheard of... a fourth would be unthinkable. Worse than any sci-fi movie she had ever seen.

She smiled as he indicated her scratches. "I may have overreacted out of fear" she said, grinning. She glanced over at where Mike had put his stuff, in a room right at the end of the hallway. There was a room next to his and she noticed that they had adjoining doors.

"I'll probably just take the room next to yours" she said, indicating the adjoining one. "That way I can help if you need anything... You know I want to help in any way that I can right?"

She walked in to that adjoining room and placed the few things she had on the bed, then walked back out to him.

"There's an adjoining door, so we can just talk that way" she said shrugging.

She walked closer to him, and wrapped her arms around his waist, an intimate gesture, but right then she was grateful for the contact, as she lay her head on his chest and felt his finely muscled body beneath her fingertips.

Mike wrapped his arms around Amber's waist. He pulled her close to him and kissed her softly. He placed a hand behind her head and held it to his chest. They just stood there for a moment in each others' arms holding each other close.

"Yea, that is a good spot for you. You are the only one who has shown any initiative in trying to help. The others are just like lost sheep looking to be hearded. You have been incredible in your willingness to lend a hand."

He slid his one hand from her hip to the small of her back and pressed her closer still to his body. She felt so good in his arms. It was great to have her to help out, and it was great to have her be such a beautiful woman that he was extremely attracted to.

"Yea, we can talk through the adjoining door. That will be good. You won't have to yell too loud for me to hear you and vice versa. Or, you could just come hang out with me in my room and we wouldn't have to worry about talking through the adjoining door."

Amber grinned when Mike said she could join him. "Mr Kelley... are you suggesting I join you in your bed? How positively wicked" she teased.

She walked into his room and looked around, the exact same setup as her room, except for her room had two queen-size beds, and his had a king. She was still holding his hand and he trailed along behind her into his room.

"Your bed is bigger... it makes sense to use your room as headquarters instead of mine" she said, grinning. She flopped down onto his bed, reveling in the soft mattress. "Man it feels good to lay on an actual bed... the couch was better than the floor at the college... But nothing beats an actual mattress".

She patted the mattress beside her. "What are your thoughts on everything going on? Have you ever heard of such a thing? And those clouds... Do you think there's another storm coming? I can't even imagine that there could be. That's like, unthinkable."

The words rattled out one after another as she voiced what had been going on in her head for the past couple of days.

Mike watched as Amber walked over and laid down on the bed in his room. His mind raced with thoughts of her in bed with him. What wonderful thoughts they were. He stood at the foot of the bed. "I don't recall saying you should join me in the bed. I just said you could come in here to talk with me." He smiled and winked at Amber.

"Of course, if you want to talk wicked, I am sure that we could work something out." He walked over to the window and looked outside. The clouds looked ominous. He wasn't sure what the hell was going on. Although he didn't want to think about it, he felt like it was the end of the world.

He tried to remain positive with Amber. "I have never seen anything like this before, but I think we are in the best place possible. We are going to be fine. I will do everything possible to make sure of that." Then he turned around to Amber. "I am certainly going to make sure that hot body of yours is well taken care of." He smiled at her wickedly and winked at her again.
