Just some thoughts
I wrote this in another forum. It was a part of an exchange between myself and someone who felt dissppointed in the amount of time and attention they were receiving from one of their "friends." There was a great deal more to the exchange, but this was the start.
Friendship is a gift. Friendship has no price nor does it come with a warranty. When friendship is broken, it may be repaired or simply thrown away. Friendship cannot be purchased, traded or stolen. Friendship is never received when it is demanded, nor even when requested. Friendship MUST be freely given. What one receives upon demand or request is a poor substitute for friendship. Friendship, once given, conveys no rights of ownership, nor expectations of exclusivity. It assigns no blame or guilt to the recipient, even when it is underappreciated. Friendship has no expectations. It never seeks to hurt or harm. Friendship is not a weapon, nor is it a carrot to be dangled, always out of reach. Friendship is kind, patient, honest, and direct. Friendship keeps the secrets of others while having none of its own. Friendship is not necessarily forever, but it can be. It is strong but fragile. Most of all, friendship is priceless, but totally free.
