Do you live with chronic pain?

Very interesting, I've never heard anything about a device like that...

Could it be a Spinal Cord Stimulator? It's like a TENS Unit, but implanted inside your body...some have an external box that controls everything, but there is another unit that is completely inside and controlled with an magnet or a handheld controller.

There is more information on this device on http://www.medtronic.com. They also put out the Implantable Morphine Pump that many have for chronic pain.

I live with chronic knee pain from a car accident and I've had chronic migraines as far back as 20 years ago. I take 7 different medications a day to treat 4 different problems. Nothing helps the headaches. I've tried every medication out there, and I've even injected myself with Imitrex. I just had my knees scoped 3 weeks ago and I'm still in more pain from that. I thought I had it rough with just the headaches but, then I added in the knee pain and the 16 stairs I have to use every time I have to go to the bathroom and now life, at times, has become unbearable.

Aww, honey, I know it's hard. My left knee was operated on in March, and my right knee was operated on about a week and a half ago. I live in a townhouse where every room is on a different level. I put my dining room table in the living room and set up a cot in the dining room. This way I can access the front door (only 4 stairs), the kitchen, and the bathroom. I live like this for about 2 months, then I brave the stairs.

I have some degenerated disks in my back and lemme try this one

Chondro malicia patella in my knee, basically my knee joint rubs on my knee cap roughining it up and causing lightening bolts of pain when I walk up and down stairs.
It has ceased amazingly with excersise.

Emerald, try Glucosamine & Chondroitin, it is a "miracle" pill as far as I am concerned. My husband started taking it last year because of the same problem you have. The doctors said it probably wouldn't do much good but I know when he stops taking it because his knees start "popping" again.

Oops, forgot about my signature....
I'm embarrassed to say I forgot about it.
It really doesn't apply to this thread.
Sorry, Cyn

Welcome! I'm so glad you decided to post, and I'm touched that it's my thread you finally posted on. I am also on SSD, what a hassle to get approved! I haven't checked out that site, but believe me, I will. Thanks for sharing it with us. I hope you decide to come back and talk with us some more. :)

...the Larry King (CNN) interview with Jerry Lewis who claims he is free of a 40-year chronic pain after an implant of a devise connecting to his spinal cord?

Whatever one thinks of Mr. Lewis it was/is fascinating.

Do you suppose it's some sort of TENS device that is implanted?

Here's something else I found a few years back, but haven't persued:

For osterarthritis, there is a form of treatment available that involves RF - radio frequency . I read about it when it was new, the trials put the treatment down as lasting 3 months, plus or minus. I believe it was being done in a hospital in either Kentucky or Tennessee... do an internet search for arthritis (or osterarthritis) AND radio frequency, the page should pull up if it's still active.

It doesn't matter how long it takes you to get back, as long as you get back :) Thanks for the additional info, I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be looking into it. :rose:

My shoulders are constantly cracking and poping and one continualy pops out of joint causing torn Rottater cup. Left knee aint doing much better. All the above to include the fact that I might have MD are from old enjories from long ago coming back to haunt me. But after reading the above I really have no room to complain.
Ice and Aspercream are the best solutions I have found. Motrin and Tylonal worked some for a while and I know Beer is not the answer.
I still work out at the gym regardless, though. I have learn to strengthen some mucle groups that help with the shoulder problems. Therapy has helped. Not drugs.

Rheumatoid arthritis from head to toe. At times my eyes go dry for several days as well.. and I have to use artificial tears. Another symptom is tightness in my chest from inflamation.. which feels like pleurisy.

I have some degree of pain and stiffness all the time, inspite of large doses of anti inflamatory meds. I can't do anything repetitive.. such as holding a pen and writing.. typing.. etc. My shoulders are badly affected, and I often can't wear a bra because the straps hurt.

But I've had it so long now, that I don't realise just how much it impacts on my life, I'm so used to it.

That doesn't mean I've accepted it though.. I hate it with a vengance.

Honey, complain all you want. That's what I started this thread for. I have used bengay occasionally, and it does help for a little while. Again, I can't take advil or any non steroidal anti-inflammatory because I'm allergic to them. Figures, doesn't it? It's like a cruel joke from up above. Good for you for pushing yourself to work out!! I have put on almost 100 pounds because of this. I can't even do my own grocery shopping. I can't wait, come springtime I should be able to get out there and walk again!! :D Although beer isn't the answer, self medicating comes in very handy when it's necessary. I don't usually take the liquid route though, I take the inhaled route. It is the ONLY thing that COMPLETELY eliminates ALL the pain. It really should be legalized, even if it's just for this kind of situation. Sure, it doesn't fix the pain, however, what it does do is causes you to relax and feel NO pain. Since you're relaxing, muscles have a chance to relax and recuperate and the spasms let up a bit. Usually, by the time the high wears off I'm still feeling a little better from the relaxation.

It's crazy how we tend to forget, or just don't know, what is 'normal'. I'll ask ppl, does this hill hurt your knees? And it doesn't. What is "normal", and what does it feel like?

been so long that "normal" isn't a word that i use anymore as far as i am concerned and as my rub of choice, aspercreme. does wonders for me.

Hi!! Thanks for sharing!! Perhaps it gives the rest of us a little hope. It is hard to get out of bed, brush the teeth, etc. By the time I get downstairs (when I actually sleep in the bedroom), I'm ready for a nap!!! I'm so happy that it's behind you and you're feeling better now. Let's just hope that it stays behind you!!:)

Thanks honey. I've been fighting this all my life. My knee problems started when I first started walking. I've more actively been fighting it for about 15 years. It takes forever to find a doctor who knows what it is and how to help.

that is true also, i am very very lucky my doctor is the most caring lady in the world, she talks to me via we mail within a couple or three hours, she also is my wifes doctor, which she has altogether a differant problem, she even went so far as to meet us last friday and see us on her day off , not many would do that the only real problem she is about 2 hours away, but still i am blessed to have her!!
