Download DVD pics to computer

A fried of mine son died and the funeral home gave him a dvd of video pics. We are trying to download them on the computer.......and are not having any luck.
they are DVD format.....I have a DVD player......and can watch them.....

Any suggestions.....

This might be a silly question, but do you have a DVD-ROM in your computer? Or just a standard DVD player like you connect to your TV?

If you have a DVD-ROM, it might be as simple as putting the dvd into your computer, and opening up the files contained within. The pictures MIGHT be there on the disc.

Ive never tried it though, so i could be way off.

There is a program called "Showbiz" that came with my DVD-RW drive that can open and edit DVD-files.

Also PowerDVD has the capability of saving a "frame capture" image in JPeG format from whatever media it's playing.

Other DVD creation programs and many DVD player programs should have similar frame capture capability.

You can also try pausing the DVD at each image and using "Print-Scrn -> paste as new image" to do a screen capture and paste the captured screen image into almost any image editing program -- but many DVD player programs intercept the Print-Scrn function and other screen capture functions of other programs.

If it's a dvd with pictures on it, then yeah you should be able to browse to the pics though "my computer" (windows) If it's a dvd movie and you say you can watch it, then I assume you have some dvd video program running. 90% of these programs have a "Capture" option on them.. though they are hard to find some times. The program that I use, is called PowerDVD (like Weird Harold said above)... Here is a link to a free download of it (not too sure if the features of the free version are the same), check it out.

It is a dvd that the funeral home made for us.......it is basically moving pictures......like a slide show.......it wont work on my cd rom.....just on the dvd player

If it's a slide show the pictures might already be on the dvd ready for you. If you to double click on My Computer and 'right click' on your dvd drive and click on "explore" that will get you into the dvd with out activating any auto play feature. Then you can see what pictures are in the dvd. If it's a movie that will play in the dvd player like any normal movie like the Godfather or something then the PowerDVD with the screen capture should work fine.

CD-ROM drives and DVD-ROM drives are different. One plays CDs, one plays DVDs and CDs. You should be able to check on the front of the actual drive and if it has DVD on it it'll play them.

However, since the DVD has been formatted as a moving slideshow then that's what it is, and it's not a disc with pictures on it. Pardon the jargon but it's not a "data" disc. A data disc could be a disc with pictures, videos, whatever you simply stored on the disc. However, this disc has been formatted to present pictures taken and be shown on a commercial stand-alone DVD player as a moving slideshow.

My best method for getting these pictures is going what is known as a screen-grab, similar to PRINT-SCREEN. "If" you can play them on your PC which means you need a DVD-ROM drive, remember to check the front then you'll need the following:

Power DVD - Software to play the DVD disc in your drive like a regular DVD
Hypersnap - Software that allows you to capture video on your PC

Remember, although the pictures are 'pictures' they're on a DVD-Video disc which means the signal is video...

Once you have those two pieces of software installed (free trial versions available online) then you simply pause the pictures one by one and capture the still frames and save them however you wish.

It's not the most flexible method to get pictures off a DVD disc without 'screen grabbing' which is taking whatever image is on screen at the time and saving it.
