The door to the second tower is really massive. Not just iron bound but iron plated. Even in the frigid atmosphere the doors metal hinges work smoothly as Omega pulls the door open. Packed inside the tower are full suits of armour apparently being warn by some form of Unseen. But with these figures the wisps of smoke are flame.
"These are the Undying. The guards of the tower when I am not here. Slow swordsmen but invulnerable to normal weapons they make good guards."
A narrow trapdoor on the floor reveals a dark and narrow passage leading down. Lord Omega must hunch his shoulders to ensure he does not hit his head. The passage spirals down through the tower. A faint glow from the steps themselves lights the way. Omega leads Artemous down. Below the tower's foundations the passage ends in yet another iron plated door.
Stepping through the door brings Lord Omega and his faithful protégé on to a balcony tier that makes up the top area of a deep round vertical shaft. The shaft is one thousand feet deep and lined very much like Omega's library with books, scrolls and manuscripts. Some are encased in glass and look very old.
A small patterned tile area extends over the shaft. Omega steps out on to it and pulls Artemous real close to him. The tiled platform begins to slowly descend in a spiral around the tower, floating on air.
"Here is the collected knowledge of the Last Empire. There are text here that are fifty thousand years old. Science, math and magic. Philosophies and histories. There is no spell or mystery it does not expound on. Although it may not solve the mystery or actually create the spell."
The descent to the bottom of the shaft takes a few minutes. Omega is intently aware of Artemous held close to his side as they descend. He looks at her and reads her mind as they float downwards.
