Dragon Slayers (OOC - Casting Call)

Name: Mae Van Duran
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Class: Barbarian/Rogue
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 156 lbs.
Eye color: Jade
Hair Color: Red
Age: 24

Special Abilities: Mae is a consummate warrior with most known weapons, though her skill with an axe is far superior. She has the ability to challenge her rage in feats of incredible strength and devastation, though at a considerable cost of her humanity. Some call it berserking, though whatever the name is she comes near-invulnerable to pain. This does not give her any special ability to shrug of damage and when she finally comes down she could very well pass out or die from her wounds. She’s also proficient in stealth and other subterfuge (mostly lock-pocketing).

Personality traits: Smart ass, thick headed, hedonistic, fickle.

Background: Known in many mercenary circles as the “Crimson Lioness”, Mae earned her title in the blood of her enemies. Who exactly is her enemy at any particular time depends entirely on what contract she was working. She could easily be found on one side of the conflict one week and the other the next; much to the joy of Mae’s money pouch.

Her line of work led her to many interesting and exotic locals, not all of which were battlefields. She was just as adept at protecting a wealthy merchant (though she found being a bodyguard to be a horrible boring job) as delving into a forgotten tomb for relics. If it was dangerous and profitable, Mae was there. Besides her mercenary background, her origins are a mystery. Exactly where she hails from she will not say. Those who push the matter typically invoke the barbarian’s quick rising ire. Her beauty was on par with that of a princess or other nobility, as was the way she held herself. She preferred her attire clean and gleaming, her hygiene as well bespoke of someone use to modern conveniences, not the bloody thirsty barbarian she more often than not displayed on and off the battlefield. She might just be able to pass for nobility on looks alone that is until she opened her mouth...

Weapons: Snagga - Magical Greataxe. It seems over-sized even in her hands. The haft is smooth polished wood wrapped in well worn black leather. The double bladed head has intricate etchings of two roaring lions on either side, their open maws facing out towards the edge.

Other items of note - She has a belt and gauntlets, both magical, that increase her strength and endurance. They are the only way that she can properly wield such a massive weapon.

* If the magic items and weapon are too much I can swap them out for mundane version, no issue.

The Tank, The Oathbreaker

Name: "The Oathbreaker" Terren Wolvesbane
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Class: Fighter/Paladin
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Height: 6'1
Weight: 238 lbs.
Eye color: Brown
Hair Color: Auburn
Age: 28

Special Abilities: He knows his way around weapons, but specializes in a one handed weapon and shield. He also is armed with a bow. He has almost inhuman tolerance for pain, and is quite strong on his own accord. He still can be brought however He is versed in some holy magic (healing and turning undead). He has a mind for tactics and battle, and is often on the forefront of the battle.

Personality traits: Stern, noble, quiet. He doesn't tend to speak unless needed. He is not without humor, he simply finds it hard to smile after the things he’s experienced in his past.

Background: Once part of the personal guard to a well to do kingdom, his future was set. He was betrothed to the ruler's daughter, and very well was in line to the throne. The king's son however took exception to this, and started a war. The son's forces where no match however for the Wolvesbane and the king's army. This pushed the son to make a pact with a demon, and open a portal to the void. The spell required the sacrifice of the royal family, in which the king, queen, and princess were captured. Terren and his family assaulted the gates and stormed the caste.

No one knows what happened next, for when they found Terren he was the only one left alive. Both families had been decimated. The strange part was, it appeared it had all be done by Terren's sword. It was thought he did this in a fit of madness, but no one knows.

Stories continued and changed, to where the common folk of his land decided he had killed them all in cold blood so he might control the land. The new king regent, though a friend of the Wolvesbane, could do little to quell this. So for the sake of the land and to keep the kingdom at peace, he branded Terren as the "Oathbreaker". Not only for killing his king and the royal family, but for killing his own kin folk as well.

He now wonders as a mercenary, not staying for long and befriending few. He does this in hopes that the "madness" that overtook him will not happen again.

Though there have been rumors of a new king in his homeland, one with similar traits as the once bewitched prince....but he died right?

Weapons: Lunar - A bastard sword that he is able to use one handed. The runes on the blade spell out "Whoever welds me will roar". It is of good craftsmen ship and has a handle that is wrapped in black leather. It is magical, and is considered a bane weapon, causing extra damage to elementals, demons, and undead.

He carries a solid steel shield that is sharpened on the ends and edges. This allows him to use it as a weapon during fighting.

He has a longbow and a hand axe as well.

Other items of note - His belt of a wolf allows him to take on their characteristics, such as seeing at night, smell taste etc. His armor is of good quality and has the following spells on it great invulnerability, great spell resistance and a ward against cold, fire, and lighting. The gauntlets and blessed with a strength spell He also has his own mug.

* Likewise If the magic items and weapon are too much I can swap them out for mundane version, no issue.

Yummy.

Okay first i'm gonna keep a note here about my writing.
Sometimes, i write half or short post to edit immediately. This is because i'm working from a phone and sometimes Lit turns down my post.
So (SP) at the end of my post means STILL POSTING.
And (NP) means NOT POSTING.
Hope that's clear to everyone.

I´ve been looking at joining this... and it seems we are going to have to face a pretty big tank indeed...

I do have an idea for a big bad, if someone´s up for it. I´d play henchwoman. Though that would probably raise concerns about balance and fairness in combat.

I hope i'm not sounding like a jerk and yes i know the decision is not mine to make but....concerns have risen and must be spoken.
What i'm trying to say is this heroes seem too strong to ally together.
Look at this first four heroes.
Name: Dessina
Weapon: staff and knife
Abilities: mage, i.e Can cast spel.
Limitation: gets energy from sex.
***
Name: Taujiel
Weapon: enchanted Arrow that always return to its quiver and a knife.
Abilities: as a wood elf can communicate with animals, have limited control over vines and plants.
Limitation: can't survive long without being in a natural environment.
***
Name: Bane
Weapon: Bare arms. He is a fighter
Abilities: beastial strength, can heal which varies according to the damage received.
***
Name: Maeve
Weapon: just a small knife, she's a rogue.
Abilities: shadow magic.
Limitation: only when there is a shadow to manipulate.

If this four come together, we'll be having a mage that can cast spells e.g fire, lightning etc + a wood elf that can communicate with animals, have his arrow return to his quiver and limited control over vines and plants + a half orc half elf with beastial strength and limited healing ability + a rogue who knows shadow magic.
Put them up against this one man and tell me who wins.
A man who has this spells on his sturdy armor; Great invulnerabilty, great spell resistance and ward against fire, lightning, etc. A belt that gives him wolf characteristics, eg scent, taste and smell. Inhuman tolerance towards pain, uses a longbow, hand axe, steel shield sharpened on both edges and ends and can be used as a weapon. An enchanted broad sword that is effective against undead, elementals and magical creatures. Very strong and knows his way round weapons.
Seriously guys, i don't see any reason why Terren should join a group. He can do everything on his own. The group is no match for him and that's how a villain looks.

So this got me thinking, when Dessina, Taujiel, Bane, Maeve, Mae and Terren comes together.
How strong do you want their villain to be?
A good epic fantasy, is one where the heroes doesn't defeat the villains because of their strengths but because they stood together, and because they were smart and lucky.
Now since we (we haven't gotten a band name) have been hired or called or decided to protect the city from the dragon lord. We would be facing his pets before we get to him. And each pet or villain he sends should give us tough times. Should give us a need to heal, a reason to argue with each other and have minor fights that they can use to their advantage which we'll then learn from. A reason to need each other and to believe that every piece matters.
That's what makes a good epic story.

So here is the deal, mistakes are allowed. We don't know all or be all. We get hurt, wounded even close to near death situations. And to make a difference in this rp, die too.
Yes, when a character dies, he

....he leaves behind a memory. A memory shared between living characters under the moon and during camp fires. If i'm playing in an rp, and my character finds himself in a situation that the only logical way out is death. Death it is. Maybe he even sacrificed his life so that others might escape.
Now all i have to do is create a new one, make him join the team, learn about them and earn their trusts. If my old character had a lover i can choose to give this new one similar traits and make him go after her again.
What i'm saying is if we make the team as strong as the justice league, then we should expect justice league villains and that's impossible for a medieval fantasy rp.
I'm not saying we should be the weak foolish good guys, i'm saying we shouldn't be the overpowered never making mistakes good guys.
Else its gonna get boring real quick.

I apologise if i'm souding bossy and an i-know-it-all.
I'll still play any how the DM wishes.

An henchwoman is fine by me. We just need to know about your abilities and weapons so you wouldn't be superly strong for the group but strong enough to make it worth while for them to come together.
I can play the dragon lord if its fine by you guys. I have ideas for weak but sneaky, strong but foolish and strong and smart villains to introduce.

Well, I already have an idea for this henchwoman. How strong she is will depend on how strong the group is. Just be aware that if everyone is epic strength from the start, it becomes kind of difficult to measure the villain´s strength just right. And accidents may happen...

Also, consider that whereas an extremely powerful villain may face the heroes, defeat them, and let them live to fight another way because he/she thinks they are too weak to ever challenge him/her again... thus giving them the chance to level up... very powerful heroes may not see that level of mercy. And that´s before we get into the MacGuffin-dependent villains (you know, the sort that require very specific, very special tasks be completed before facing him, think Lord Voldemort and his Horcruxes that made him invincible against everyone and anyone). So by all means, go up against the demi-god villain and see how all those fancy powers fare against someone that can be killed only by tossing his personal ring into his personal volcano...

... just saying. Power down the power creep?

And yes monsters won't just come out tough. Its according to their current strength level.

I'm taking a lot of what's here into consideration... and for the most part I like what I'm seeing.

At some pt. this week I'll try and address everyone's characters and ideas, but it might be a few days before anything concrete is posted.
