Maybe i'm needlessly concerned but.....

I was wondering if anyone else was worried that Dubya was going to see this semi-crisis with China as an opportunity to prove that he's a "tough sum-bitch"?

Surely Powell and Cheney would council him against it but.... lets face facts, George isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Further, with Rumsfelds paper on the future of the US Military, its force structure and make up just around the corner, would the pentagon council him (Bush) to be aggressive? If for no other reason than ilustrating the need for "big deck" Carrier Battle Groups and "Heavy" Mechanized and Armored Divisions to counter China.

Potentially a reversed "wag the dog" sort of situation. Food for thought.

Whattya think?

As someone who never served in the military I'd like to ask those who did.....why didn't those guy's in the spy plane have a way of destroying all the sensitive equipment before they landed....?
Don't mean to piss you services types off but it's been worrying me that if I could come up with that thought then why couldn't the guy's who built the plane...?

While I've never been on board the plane that they are talking about here, most of them have a way to destroy documents in the case they are about to be captured.

We do not know for sure that this hasnt already happened. All we have are the talking airheads who want togo on TV to say something versus just admiting that we do not know shit about what is going on. (Sorry, bias towards the media reared its ugly head for a moment.)

Usually in ships its wieghted bags, with airplanes I've seen shredders and magnets. The problem is, the hardware on that plane is probably as valuable to the Chinese as any 'Secret' documents that the plane was carrying.

Just my .02 from an ex-Army guy.

The documents may be of some concern, sure....

But I think it's the gizmo's that's got'em a bit worried. And that's a bit concerning since if likely China has most of the info on that allready. But actually having the gear in hand - verifies there prior intle.

As for destruction of said gear and paper? Who knows? A self-destruct measure surely would've worked. And I'd be all for it - and hit the sucker right when the son-of-a-bitch fighter pilot was right on top of you too. Take him out with you. But that would be hard to do - now wouldn't it.

The pilot could've just put the plane in a dive - targeted something nasty - and boom! Kamakazi the fuckers - problem solved and bonus target taken care of.

But - these weren't "real" military men (well maybe the pilots might have been, but I doubt it) - they were yer normal, platic pocket protector, keys on a chain, geeks in the Air Farse!

Oh, I forgot - Exp.

I have a hunch Bush doesn't make one move without very much council - I don't know what those boys may be whisperin' in his ear.

Is T for Texas - or Timebomb?

Clinton has already sold everything to China, what is the big deal?

The big deal...

...is that the US is in a potentially serious conflict situation, and in the hands of a leader who cannot find China on a map.

I actually stopped reading newspapers the day his election was confirmed, and I don't intend to resume reading them for the next four years.

The state of Dubya's mind is that he doesn't have one.

yes, they have a plan

Just watched the BBC news and they had an expert and he said that the crew would have had time to destroy all the data on the computer's, so the chinese would only have the machines to look at but no data, still thats bad enough.
