I did and was, well, underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the film and thought it was tremendously innovative conceptually but it wasn't a great movie for a few reasons and like CTHD it suffered from way too much hype

Reason number one: Carrie Anne Moss might just be the most wooden, pointless actress this side of Julia Stiles. Apparently Miss Moss believes that the best way to earn an Oscar is to do her best impression of the statuette.

Reason number two: I knew way too much heading into the movie.

Reason number three: The hype.

I'd give it a 8 bales out of ten. Real good but not great.

Complaint: If the guy didn't have any short term memory? How did he remember he had no short term memory? He knew to tell everyone he met, "I have this condition" How did he remember that? He didn't have it written down anywhere that I saw in the film.

Response to ill conceived complaint: Obviously his condition wasn't a real recent thing so it was a "Long term Memory" thing

You can't tell me that Annie Hall isn't an amazing movie? Did you not like Manhattan Murder Mystery? Or Everything I Wanted to Know About Sex....? Or Mighty Aphrodite? Or, or or...? I even liked Small Time Crooks with Hugh Grant. In fact I thought that was one of his best performances. Tracy Ulman is the only woman Grant has had any chemistry with.

Well, I can't tell you any of those things. I can simply state that those are my opinions. Opinions that happen to be dead on the money. So to a degree, I can tell you those things. All desperate attempts by a man who is frantically trying to make the world believe he's a witty intellectual with an amazing ability to bed women who'd probably never look at him in RL.

As a male you probably don't understand that some women have an insatiable desire for men like Woody Allen. I don't particularly have a thing for Woody boy but there are some men similar that I would have to say that are sexy as hell.

For example, Niles from Frasier. He is such a tight-assed dork. I mean he's a little guy that's kinda mouse-like. But for some reason I find him irresistable. I think it's because he's such a tight-ass I think the animal side of him comes out in the bjedroom. He's a definite "ravager".

Maybe some women see Woody the same way. Who knows? There are many women who truly love dorks. I'm not one of them on all occasions, but at time a dorky guy can be incredibly sexy.

Hey, far be it for me to bad mouth the sexual appeal of dorks(Of who I happen to be a proud member, Well a Dork-Jock or a Jork) but a jerk who is egotistical and conducts a constant show of trying to prove how smart he is compared to everyone else? I can see women thinking dorky guys are sexy, I just don't see women being turned on by obnoxious jerks. But I could be wrong. I tricked a girl into falling for me after all

Indeed. A more distressing and despicable film has yet to grace my cotton lovin' eyes. Forget if you will the ludicrous dialogue, terrible performances and ridiculous story and the thing you are left with if Luhrmann's ingenious plan to make sure that if your camera work and visual style and so frantically awful that no one will notice that he'd made a complete and utter dog of a film.

I'd rate it 2 bales. The only saving grace is the fact that I always enjoy Leguizamo

Kidman was not made for that role. She is not a great comic actor. I thought Ewan MacGregor did a good job. His singing voice was excellent. And I did love Leguizamo (sp?) as Tolouse.

I thought it was ok. I found it to be rather funny. And I wouldn't be quite as critical as you. During the movie I had reservations, but in the aftermath I've grown fond of it. I'll give it a 6.

But mind you, I have an affinity for musicals. And I thought the humor was wildly entertaining. It was kind of like a mad hatter's tea party.

Truth be told I barely noticed it was a musical. With the movie looking like it was shot by a Orangutang with parkinsons and the set design looking like it was done by someone who believes that the art world was at its peak during the Lite-Bright years it was so visually distracting(Like his bastardized Romeo and Juliet) that whatever charm the plot might have had was lost on me.

Well, aside from the fact that I'd see it againt just for Halle Berry it is so dumb that it might just have to be seen for the sheer wonder of how people who must be intelligent enough to dress themselves and not drool 24/7 could have made a movie this pointless and braindead.

Add to that a supremely wasted cast full of talented actors who raise your expectations and action sequences that aren't even all that riveting I'd say it was pretty bad.

On to a new topic. What would have been your personal Oscar picks for last year?

Best Picture: O Brother Where Art Thou
Best Director: Soderbergh for Traffic
Best Actor: George Clooney for OBWAT
Best Actress: Michelle Yeoh(sp?) for CTHD
Best Supporting Actor: Benicio Del Toro for Traffic
Best Supporting Actress: This is still a category? Who knew?

Oh Brother Where Art Thou was great. It was so funny. I hardly ever laugh out loud in the theatre, and I was laughing almost 2 minutes after the jokes.

But, it wasn't the best movie of the year. And George Clooney was not the best actor.

Geoffrey Rush was amazing as the Marquis de Sade in Quills. Absolutely amazing. But, he couldn't get it because he won for Shine just a few years ago.

They had to give it to Crowe because they passed him up last year when he deserved it for Insider. Granted Spacey was great in American Beauty last year.

I have to disagree with you about O Brother. It was, IMHO, the hands down best film in a weak year. Others were good(I didn't really like Quills but I enjoyed Traffic)

I'm not sure the Academy plays by such odd rules as you've defined. I think there honestly are some people who for some reason(Hormonal imbalance?) enjoyed Gladiator.
