I just edited my first story and I am planning to submit the edited version. I am a little reluctant because, even being my first one, it got high scores and comments and I wouldn't want to lose them. My question is: Should I submit the edited version or just let it be? It's a minor edit, mostly dealing with typos, some grammatical errors and the like.

Thank you in advance.

The way edits work, Laurel replaces the text of the original story with the edit. You keep all the comments and ratings on the story - it looks just like the original.

These take a long time to do - it could be a month or more before it gets done, so feel free to let it sit.

I’ve been meaning to go back and do edits for all my stuff but just haven’t had the time.

I wouldn't bother. It won't affect the results, and the only person who will know it's an edit is you.

Unless they're real clunkers, no-one will notice. We all have typos, spelling goofs, format glitches. Unless the story is rendered unintelligible, it's not really worth the effort.

The moral is, of course, submit the best copy you possibly can in the first place. Edit first, then submit, not the other way around!

Edit first, then submit, yes, but also you don't really lose anything by submitting edits. Don't plan to do it, but if you notice something you might as well.

Be careful. Simple edits are acceptable but major rewrites or changes in the plot will result in a ’new’ story.

Except it's a waste of time, requires double handling by the site. Most threads on editing are about trivial changes - which are completely under the author's control. It's not hard to submit good quality copy, and most readers I find are very forgiving - unless the errors are diabolically bad. In which case, it shouldn't have been submitted in the first place.

I've done it before and I'll do it again.

If you've already done the edits, then it seems like a waste of effort to not submit them. Don't expect a quick turnaround.
