Steph heard him ride off and felt a bit of regret but deep down, she knew it was the right thing to do. Tomorrow was a new day. Ish was coming to pick her up on a Harley and she was looking forward to it immensely. Shutting the door behind her, she had just dropped her briefcase in a comfy chair when she heard it and braced herself. Her dogs, shelties, two of them, came running out of their room, tails a waggin’.
“Hello boys, did ya miss me?”
Steph bent over to give them love which they enthusiastically returned. They were her loves. Her joy. They had been there through the dark period of her life and now that the sun was peeking through the clouds, life was joyous once again.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here for supper time but your feeders took care of you.”
Just to be sure she went in their room and checked the water and their feeder and all was well. Bending down she removed her heels.
“Oh damn. That feels so good.”
She padded into her room across the hall and sat on the bed. The shelties both jumped up on her bed with her. She ruffled their fur affectionately.
“Well boys, I got fired today, met a man and got hired all in the same night. Weird huh? I’ll be in and out all weekend but I’ll make it up to you.”
Luckily, the boys had a doggie door to the backyard so they came and went as the need was. Getting up from the bed, Steph changed out of her work clothes, hanging them up properly. She pulled out a tank top and shorts, called the shelties and together they went to sit and watch some tv. It dawned on her that she had forgotten to ask Ish what time he was coming over but she didn’t think it would be too early. All three of them settled on the couch to watch Stranger Things.
The next morning Steph got up around six and dressed in running shorts, a different t-shirt and her running shoes. She hooked the boys up to their leashes and away they went for a run to the park. The boys loved to run. They also loved to “herd” the ducks by the pond. Stephanie kept an eye on them so they didn’t hurt the ducks. When the boys tired of that game they came and laid at Steph’s feet. She figured they had been there for an hour so they ran home again .
Steph started the coffeepot and went to shower as the boys went in search of their food. They made her smile. Wrapped in a towel fresh from her shower, Steph pondered her closet. What to wear. A quick glance in the mirror and she grinned. Mischievously. Steph decided on a pair of tight black jeans with a belt, a black tank top and her short black boots. Her hair she put up in a ponytail and slipped a set of silver loops in her ears. Her make up was light, just enough mascara to give her some eyelashes. Some eyebrow pencil to shape in her faint eyebrows. Anything else was just not needed, not for a weekend of play. Her red hair curled as it hung in the ponytail. Well, whatever Ish had in mind, she was ready for. She hoped.
She was sitting at the dining room table, coffee in hand and laughing at the dogs’ antics in the backyard. Her sable (brown and white) was called Max and her tri-colored (black, brown and white) was called Traxs. Both of them were busy trying to chase a squirrel out of their yard. Steph was of the opinion that the boys felt squirrels belonged in the trees not in their yard.
